"I like the team and it has a good feel about it, there is some really strong players in there and hopefully that shows in our performance today. It is a dangerous game for us."

On Sandro Tonali's return: "He has had a really tough time.

"He has had an isolated period training on his own. He has had a lot of time to think and he has handled himself brilliantly.

"He has been an unbelievable teammate. It is not about this one game, we are getting a player back who is a top level player and it is about managing these first few games back."

On the possibility of Arsenal's Aaron Ramsdale joining Wolves...

That one appears to be off for Wolves. It was described to me as a complicated and expensive deal - ultimately it will be too expensive for Wolves.

Gary O'Neil has gone on the record talking about the restrictions financially and what they can spend at Molineux.

Wolves are looking at Sam Johnstone. That one could come in roughly half the price of Ramsdale - a £10m deal from Crystal Palace.

At the minute with no-one through the door Wolves are not too comfortable.

When the two teams met in April, Southampton were still in the second tier and fell to a 2-1 defeat at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Their start to the Premier League season has not been smooth with two narrow defeats to Newcastle and Nottingham Forest.

But Cardiff City are also in need of a win with two defeats and a draw in the Championship so far.

They beat Bristol Rovers 2-0 in the first round of this competition a few weeks ago though.

Since then, they have lost one of the goalscorers that day - Mark McGuinness - to Luton Town.

Southampton boss Russell Martin said in his media conference this week that "every game is as big as the play-off final" after their slow start to the Premier League season and hopes they can show that tonight.

"It is an opportunity for players to play in our way, to be the team we want to be against good opponents," said Martin.

"Any opportunity you have to play you can’t take for granted. I want to win. I want to beat Cardiff."

New signing Lesley Ugochukwu starts for Southampton and Martin says he wants him to be "the king in the middle of the pitch".

"He needs to dominate it is as much as he can as that area of the pitch is a big responsibility for us," added Martin.

"I'm sure there will be brilliant bits and some we need to work on and learn from - but it will be great for him to feel that and be on the pitch."

"He's fit. He just hasn't had the match time, the 11 v 11, which players will tell you is the most important thing within the game," said Newcastle boss Eddie Howe.

"He's done everything else. He's worked incredibly hard with the sports science team to be on top of his fitness and to make sure he's fitter than he was when he was banned."
