FT: Crystal Palace 1-1 Newcastle
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “It was a strange game. We didn’t have any goalmouth action, but I felt we were good in the game. I felt we nullified them pretty well. In the main, I think we controlled it pretty well.
“It’s really gutting to concede the goal at the end. I felt like we’d weathered the storm and would see the game out. We defended crosses well, but one moment cost us today. In [our last] two games, we’ve let a lot of points slip.”
On Dan Burn: “Dan’s been nursing an ankle problem for the last few weeks. It’s a gigantic performance from him, all things considered. I don’t think he deserved that [Palace] goal today.”

Wolves defender Nelson Semedo, who has now picked up five yellow cards and will be suspended for his side's match with Everton on Wednesday, to Premier League Productions: "We weren't hungry enough. We lost all our duals and we weren't good enough.
"They pressed really well but we knew that. We were prepared for that but it didn't go the way we wanted.
"The way I got the yellow card, I was really mad with the referee. I saw him going like this [points] and I thought it was a goal kick so I was just clapping for his decision. Suddenly he gave me a yellow card and he didn't even let me try to explain to him.
"I knew I already had a yellow card, that wouldn't change. But I wanted to say to him 'no I'm not clapping because you say it's a penalty, or whatever. No, just because I thought it was a goal kick, that's why'.
"I'm not that sort of player and I know I'm on four yellow cards so I wouldn't do that if I was on four yellow cards."

"The start of the game, the first goal we concede, it's a big set-back. We gave away two back passes and we didn't need to play backwards in those moments.
"We expect better than that. We should be able to make simple passes and good decisions with the ball. Today it snowballed on us. We kept on giving chances and making bad decisions.
"We did keep fighting and did come back. But we again found a way to shoot ourselves in the foot with the fourth goal.
"The lads were very well-prepared for what Bournemouth were going to ask. We knew they would be direct and press. But today we didn't have the answers.
"A lot to look at, but a very quick turnaround. The Premier League you can lose momentum at any point because there are a lot of tough games.

Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen to BBC Sport: "Not what we expected before the game. We are in good form and I thought we are better than what we showed today, but that's football. There will be setbacks when you don't expect them.
"The game is ruined after 18 minutes, and that's a shame. We believed though and we came back, we had the momentum but in a few minutes it's dead again. But we have a new match on Wednesday.
"We have to learn a lot. But I'd rather have one game with three or four mistakes, than spreading them out and losing many games.
"The last five or six games have been really, really good. We create chances and score some good goals. We're a really good team and I believe this will turn around."

"Bournemouth ask you certain questions and unfortunately we didn't find enough answers. Their first was from a channel ball which we worked on for ages, ages, and we didn't deal with it.
"Crazy, crazy penalties to give away. We have to write those off, because you can't win games if you concede goals like that.
"Any error as big as those at this level is going to be tough to bounce back from. We've given ourselves a mountain to climb which we haven't done in the last four games.
"We were well-prepped and new exactly what would happen. Two back passes, crazy back passes, no need to play back at that point, we could have played forward.
"The [penalty] decisions looked pretty conclusive live."

"There's a balance but the basics for us is not the clean sheet, it is the attitude. Tough team, we knew that. We started well and they countered the attack. Very tough team. Kieran is doing a great job and they put us against the ropes at the end.
"Wood always takes penalties after training. He is our penalty taker and we totally trust him.
"We will assess them now. We had players coming back from injury but we will assess them and then think about the next one."

"I think the moment we went to a back three was to close the gaps but still required a bit of pressing the ball but we didn't do that so Ipswich controlled the game. There was a bit of tension.
"All the games in the Premier League are so tough so that is why we go game by game. Now we will think about the next one."

"We had plenty of moments in the first half. We had chances, we had a lot of pressure. The first goal felt important and on another day, we would have got it. Fine margins.
"I can understand why it was given. He lunged in from behind and you're giving the referee a decision to make. I've not seen it close up but I can see why it was given in real time. I don't think we can say we hit our best level to win the game but I think we deserved something. We've got steps to make if we are to consistently win."

"As expected. We knew coming here Brentford's home record and the crowd get behind them. We got ourselves in front with the goal and decision making in key moments have contributed to the scoreline.
"Not so much the first one but the second one we're down to 10 men and then the third just before half time. They hit hard. We showed some good play for some parts of the game.
"The thinking was trying to get three points. We've reassessed everyone and thought that was the best way to go to get three points.
"Only last night, we exchanged a few texts and we'll catch up tomorrow. Bit of a challenging afternoon. It can be a lonely place stood on that touchline but everyone was excited when the announcement was made yesterday so hopefully that positivity continues."

We're excited about the manager coming in and we're excited for that. It's hard to be excited at this moment after a performance like that.

When Chris Wood stepped up for the crucial winning penalty you’d have struggled to find any Forest fans sitting around me who weren’t 100% confident he would score.
The New Zealander had a relatively quiet afternoon, with very few chances as he worked hard to get his team-mates into the game but he’s in the form of his life under Nuno Espírito Santo.
Wood’s now level with the all-time record for most Premier League goals scored by a Forest player.
But the stat which really stands out for me is that it’s 20 goals in 29 games for Wood since Nuno took over in December last year. If he stays fit and firing Forest’s European dream will go on.

"We are trying to put pressure on them, don't let them feel comfortable. Evanilson today has made the difference. He has been fighting with the centre-backs and the keeper. He was phenomenal.
"Justin [Kluivert] has played against my teams in Spain many times and has also scored penalties. Justin is normally quite confident in those situations. The first two were clear. For the third one I thought maybe he is not the one to take it. But also in the moment I didn't want to be the one to tell him.

Daniel Munoz (second right) beat Nick Pope with a towering header in stoppage time
Daniel Munoz scored a stoppage-time equaliser as Crystal Palace denied Newcastle victory at Selhurst Park to move out of the bottom three.
The Colombian full-back, who missed a glorious chance earlier to give the hosts a first-half lead, beat Nick Pope with a towering far-post header with just over 90 seconds of stoppage time left to play.
A share of the spoils was the least Palace deserved after creating the better opportunities against a Newcastle side who registered just one attempt at goal in south London - and none on target.
In a poor first half, Trevoh Chalobah fired over from long range and Ismaila Sarr forced a fine save out of Pope, before Munoz somehow failed to hit the target from Sarr's low ball across the face of goal.
Newcastle offered next to nothing as an attacking force but took the lead eight minutes into the second half, when Marc Guehi turned Anthony Gordon's low cross into his own net following a well-worked free-kick.
Munoz was then thwarted by a brilliant block from Magpies defender Dan Burn after Sarr's deflected effort was saved by Pope.
Guehi was also denied by Pope from a tight angle and striker Jean-Philippe Mateta blazed over from close range.
But Guehi - a transfer target for Newcastle - and Munoz made amends for their earlier misfortune by combining for the late leveller.
England defender Guehi's cross picked out his team-mate to head home his first Palace goal and lift them above fellow strugglers Wolves and Ipswich on goal difference.
Crystal Palace's Oliver Glasner - We deserved the win today
Palace's tally of nine points from their first 13 matches represents their worst start to a Premier League season in six years, but boss Oliver Glasner will hope Munoz's late equaliser will give his side the lift they need to haul themselves further away from relegation danger.
Despite being by far the better side against a toothless Newcastle, it looked as though the Eagles' lack of cutting edge would come back to haunt them as they racked up 16 shots without breaching the visiting backline.
After Sarr was denied by a fine Pope save, Munoz should have done much better from the Senegal international's low ball.
Newcastle's opener came out of nothing but apart from Burn's block to thwart Munoz, Palace looked unlikely to add to their miserly tally of three home league goals in 2024-25 until the Colombian's first for the club since his January arrival from Genk.
Glasner's team have now picked up three draws from their last four games in the top flight, but their inability to finish clear-cut opportunities - particularly at Selhurst Park - remains a concern.
"We have to blame ourselves that we didn't take those chances," Glasner, who sprinted down the touchline to celebrate Munoz's equaliser with his players, told BBC Match of the Day. Crystal Palace 1-1 Newcastle: Eddie Howe - Late goal was 'gutting' to concede
Unfortunately for Newcastle's travelling fans, the Magpies started Saturday's game the way they finished Monday's disappointing home defeat by West Ham.
Sandro Tonali, handed his fifth league start of the season at Selhurst Park, was one of their better performers in a holding midfield role, while Fabian Schar and Burn produced a number of crucial clearances to keep Palace at bay.
But too many of their team-mates looked sluggish in and out of possession as Newcastle struggled to make any inroads whatsoever in the final third.
Indeed, they are only the eighth side on record (from the 2003-04 season) to avoid defeat in a Premier League game in which they attempted one shot or less, and the first since Leicester against the Magpies in May 2023.
There was little sign of a breakthrough from them until a well-worked free-kick routine involving Tonali and Lewis Hall ended with Guehi turning Gordon's cross over the line.
The visitors abandoned all attacking intent late on as Palace pushed for a late equaliser, which finally came in the fourth minute of added time.

Crystal Palace won this exact fixture 2-0 in April, last winning consecutive league meetings with Newcastle between 1971 and 1972 (a run of three).
After winning their first four Premier League away games against Crystal Palace, Newcastle have won just one of their last nine visits to Selhurst Park in the competition (D5 L3).
Newcastle have kept 14 clean sheets in their 26 Premier League games against Crystal Palace. Only against Aston Villa (19) and Arsenal (15) have they recorded more in the competition, while it’s their highest percentage of clean sheets against sides they’ve faced 20+ times (54%).
