Another Saturday afternoon in the books...

We've had 24 games across League One and Two this weekend, goals galore, a fistful of red cards and just the solitary goalless draw.

After half-a-dozen games Cardiff lead the way in League One, and you won't find many betting against them staying there all season, while the odds would have been even longer on Plymouth, Wycombe and Peterborough occupying three of the relegation places in the third tier at this stage.

In League Two, Gareth Ainsworth's Gillingham have reached the summit - and he still hasn't tasted defeat since taking over at Priestfield in March.

His old team Shrewsbury did pick up their second point of the season today, but remain in the EFL basement along with Cheltenham.

Thanks for your company today, we'll be back next Saturday for an almost full programme of fixtures, despite one of those pesky international breaks.

And don't forget we'll have live coverage of all the EFL news on transfer deadline day on Monday. Rest up now, it's sure to be a mad one.

    See you then!

It’s all change in the higher reaches of League Two as the top four at the start of the day all failed to win, with only second-placed Chesterfield picking up a point, after fighting back from 2-0 down to draw with Crawley.

Gillingham profit most from the slip-ups by going top after their narrow win away to Oldham.

But overnight leaders Crewe slip out of the automatic promotion spots following their 3-0 lunchtime defeat to Swindon who go fifth with a fourth win in five.

Bromley preserved their unbeaten start to the season and move into the top three after a 2-0 win over Harrogate.

They replace MK Dons who were beaten for the first time this season at home to Walsall who leapfrog above them into sixth.

It was a better weekend for the bottom three who all picked up a point.

Cardiff's thumping win over Plymouth keeps them top of the pile in League One, though the race behind them is a fierce one.

Huddersfield lost ground with their defeat at Barnsley, who are joined by newly-promoted Yorkshire rivals Doncaster and Bradford in the top-five, with the Bantams coming from behind to keep their own unbeaten start going.

At the other end Peterborough's 3-0 humbling at Exeter leaves Posh bottom with a single point from six games, though Reading and Northampton moved away from the foot of the table with 1-0 wins.

  6. 'The Saddlers saw this out'published at 17:01 BST 30 August

    FT: MK Dons 0-1 Walsall

    Andrew Dawkins
    BBC Radio WM commentator

Aden Flint was a towering presence at the heart of the Walsall defence this afternoon.

They barely had a shot in the second half, but this was about Walsall's off-the-ball performance.

    The Saddlers saw this out!

  7. 'That's a proper team performance'published at 16:59 BST 30 August

    FT: Grimsby 0-1 Bristol Rovers

    Nathan Ellington
Ex-Bristol Rovers striker on BBC Radio Bristol

They definitely did grind it out.

That's a proper team performance, going and grinding it out against a strong side.

The players have cramp out there, and to stop a free-flowing team like Grimsby from scoring is great. Grimsby will be right up there.

  8. FULL-TIMEpublished at 16:58 BST 30 August

    MK Dons 0-1 Walsall

MK Dons are unable to take advantage of Crewe's defeat as they slip to only their second defeat of the season.

Charlie Lakin's deflected second-half finish proves enough for Walsall who pick up back-to-back league wins for the first time this season.

It's four wins from six for the Saddlers who move into the play-off spots.

  9. FULL-TIMEpublished at 16:58 BST 30 August

    Barnsley 3-1 Huddersfield

The Yorkshire spoils are taken by Barnsley.

Owen Goodman spilled a cross into the path of Davis Keillor-Dunn to open the scoring before Goodman was sent-off for a wild challenge outside his box on David McGoldrick.

Luca Connell's deflected effort made it 2-0 before the break before Keillor-Dunn turned in his fourth of the season after sub keeper Lee Nicholls saved an Adam Phillips free-kick, though Joe Taylor had the final say as he fired home after a weak backpass.

  10. FULL-TIMEpublished at 16:56 BST 30 August

    Grimsby 0-1 Bristol Rovers

Cameron McJannet puts a close-range effort high, wide and not so handsome and that is that.

Bristol Rovers survive a late onslaught as Grimsby suffer a hangover from their memorable Carabao Cup win over Manchester United.

Mariners' unbeaten start to the season is over, but it's a red letter day for the Pirates who win their first away league game in 13 attempts.

Back-to-back wins for the West Country side who are now unbeaten in three after losing their opening three.

  11. FULL-TIMEpublished at 16:56 BST 30 August

    Blackpool 1-1 Bolton

No Bolton fan under the age of 48 has seen Bolton win at Bloomfield Road.

They came close, at the 19th time of asking, with Mason Burstow cancelling-out Blackpool's first-half opener, credited to keeper Teddy SHarman-Lowe after Dale Taylor's shot hit the post and went in off the keeper.

Bolton grew into it and Xavier Simons had the ball in the net late-on, only for the offside flag to deny the Trotters what would have been their first winner at their Lancashire rivals since 1977, while Sam Dalby headed inches over deep into stoppage-time.

  12. 'The missed opportunities have been really costly'published at 16:54 BST 30 August

    MK Dons 0-1 Walsall

    Andrew Dawkins
    BBC Radio WM commentator

It's been all MK Dons; they've had their chances. The missed opportunities have been really costly for MK Dons.

There's barely been a chance for the Saddlers in this second period.

  13. 'Town have one back'published at 16:51 BST 30 August

    Barnsley 3-1 Huddersfield

    Paul Ogden
Huddersfield Town commentator, BBC Radio Leeds

Joe Taylor pounces on a bad backpass from Barnsley, and Town have one back.

I wonder if some of those supporters might come back into the stadium!

  14. goal

GOAL: Barnsley 3-1 Huddersfieldpublished at 16:50 BST 30 August

    Joe Taylor (87 mins)

    Game on? Probably not.

Joe Taylor has got the 10-men on the score-sheet, however, latching onto a loose backpass and slotting past Murphy Cooper.

You didn't just think they'd be no more goals at Valley Parade, did you? Well, Bradford have retaken the lead thanks Will Swan to make it 3-2 against AFC Wimbledon.

  16. Postpublished at 16:50 BST 30 August

    Grimsby 0-1 MK Dons

It's all Grimsby as we go into seven minutes of stoppage time.

Kieran Green breaks down the right wing and delivers a low ball into the box which narrowly avoids the arriving Danny Rose.

Rovers stopper Luke Southwood is down receiving treatment as a result.

Moments earlier, calls for a penalty were waved away as Grimsby sub Cameron Gardner chased down Kacper Lapata.

  17. CLOSE!published at 16:49 BST 30 August

    Blackpool 1-1 Bolton

Xavier Simons close again for Bolton as he unleashes a volley from the edge of the box which flicks off a defender on its way over the bar.

  18. 'You want a bit of help from your defender'published at 16:48 BST 30 August

    Barnsley 3-0 Huddersfield

    Matt Glennon
Former Huddersfield keeper on BBC Radio Leeds

Lee Nicholls will be thinking, could I have done any more?

I think it's a good save initially, you want a bit of help from your defender there.

Even at 2-0 down with ten men, the fans have stuck with them, but now it looks like it's time to go
