Jaidon Anthony claimed his first goal for Burnley since arriving from Bournemouth on loan in August
Burnley went back to the top of the Championship after beating Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.
Goals either side of half-time from Jaidon Anthony and captain Josh Brownhill sealed three points for Scott Parker's side, who are now unbeaten in their last seven league matches.
The Clarets will stay top at the end of the weekend if Sunderland fail to beat Hull City on Sunday.
Sheffield Wednesday drop to 18th, three points above the relegation zone.
Just three minutes in, summer signing Zian Flemming went close for the visitors but his shot was well kept out by Wednesday goalkeeper James Beadle.
The hosts grew into the game and almost got in behind the Burnley backline but superb last-ditch defending from Chelsea loanee Bashir Humphreys denied Wednesday’s Djeidi Gassama a presentable goalscoring opportunity.
On the half-hour mark, Wednesday skipper Barry Bannan delivered a pinpoint free-kick into the Burnley box but Ike Ugbo put his header over the bar when he ought to have done better.
Excellent footwork from Olof Kobacki then created room for a shot but his low effort was saved by Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford - and three minutes later, the hosts were made to pay for their missed opportunities.
A long ball from Clarets defender CJ Egan-Riley was not cleared by full-back Yan Valery, allowing Anthony to pounce and slip the ball past Beadle for his first goal for Burnley since arriving on a season-long loan from Bournemouth in the summer.
Five minutes into the second half, Burnley doubled their lead when Brownhill followed up to fire home a left-foot volley in front of the travelling supporters after Flemming’s initial attempt was saved.
Anthony then came close to adding a third but his free-kick was well saved by Beadle and substitute Jeremy Sarmiento could only hit the post with his header on the rebound.
Svante Ingelsson nearly halved the deficit for the hosts late on but directed his header straight at Trafford as Burnley held on for a comfortable three points.

Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl told BBC Radio Sheffield:
“I think we should take the positive things. It was a good performance against a strong opponent.
“We knew before the game they are very clinical in front of goal and you saw they don’t need many chances.
“I think that for me was the big, big difference”.
Burnley head coach Scott Parker told BBC Radio Lancashire:
"It feels good as always coming into a Saturday and a Wednesday, first and foremost you want to try and get three points: we managed to do this today and I think overall we were well worthy of them.
"First half, just ebbs and flows a little bit. We have chances, they create a little bit of pressure from set-plays, and then we managed to get our noses in front.
"We didn't start the second half too well but then after that I thought we dominated and probably, 2-0, we [were] well worthy".
