  1. 'Rashford needs to knuckle down'published at 17:22 Greenwich Mean Time

    Andy Reid
Ex-Tottenham midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

On Marcus Rashford being linked to Aston Villa...

It suits all parties. I think Rashford needs to get his head down and get on with football.

We seem to have been talking about what he’s doing away from football, it’s a bit boring.

He needs to knuckle down and get on with it.

  2. 'Rashford needs a new environment'published at 17:21 Greenwich Mean Time

Wolves v Aston Villa (17:30 GMT)

    Ellen White
Former England striker on Football Focus

A move to Aston Villa would be something new and fresh for Marcus Rashford. We know he can be a great goalscorer and he is a great player. He just needs something different, a new environment.

  3. 'Why would you go in straight away at £90m?'published at 17:21 Greenwich Mean Time

Wolves v Aston Villa (17:30 GMT)

    Dion Dublin
Former Man Utd striker on Football Focus

I wasn''t surprised by Arsenal's bid for Ollie Watkins. Why not test the waters at £65m? Why would you go in straight away at £90m? If you can't get him for £65m then you might get him for £70m, pay what you need.

  4. 'The character is always there'published at 17:20 Greenwich Mean Time

    FT: Ipswich 1-2 Southampton

    Southampton

Southampton boss Ivan Juric speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It's a great feeling [to get his first win as a Premier League manager], the guys deserved it because they worked a lot. They did some good games and we lost but today we won. The character is always there. We will enjoy tonight, that's for sure."

On holding on to the lead: "It was really tough because Ipswich played really good but with the changes, with the pace of Kamaldeen Sulemana, we did some really good things."

On Kamaldeen Sulemana: "He is a player that we need, he's direct and now we are waiting for [Tyler] Dibling and then we will be even better than today."

On Paul Onuachu's goal: "I'm sure he can score lots of goals. He has the characteristics and he is really working hard. Great man."

On whether finishing above Derby's 11 points is a motivation for his side: "No. It's bad motivation. We've won today and I think the team can improve themselves and make good matches and think that we can do something really special. That's our idea. We have to have good character and improve every game."

On whether he thinks Southampton can stay up: "I don't know what will happen. We will see, we will play with heart and passion, that's what I want."

On Welington andAlbert Gronbaek making their debuts: "I think they gave us a hand. Welington had a really good game, he was very tired because he hadn't played for six months and Albert, his technique, he had some opportunities in the first half. I think they will give us a big hand."

Mohamed Salah proves the difference with two goals to see off a battling Bournemouth side and take Liverpool nine points clear at the top.

Earlier this week, Arne Slot said he wants Salah to extend his contract and has spoken to him, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold about their futures.

Liverpool rejected a £150m bid from Saudi side Al Ittihad for Salah in September 2023, but with Salah's contract's expiring in the summer, fears continue to grow he could leave for nothing at the end of the season.

"Everyone wants him, including us – we want him to extend, of course. That is clear," said Slot on Friday.

Once more the Egyptian showed just how much Liverpool need him, scoring a wonderful second to finally finish off a Bournemouth side that played their part in an entertaining match.

The joyous celebrations at the end highlighted how vital this victory was for the Reds as they move a step closer to their 20th league title.

  9. 'Huge win for Southampton'published at 17:14 Greenwich Mean Time

As is the way at Portman Road, away fans are often allocated half of a main stand side and the thousands of Southampton supporters have enjoyed every minute of their fine view this afternoon.

It's a huge win for them and for Ivan Juric who gets his first points as Saints boss. Staying up might be a step too far at this point, but a win can do wonders for confidence.

The Ipswich fans go home disappointed; they've missed a huge opportunity to put the pressure on the teams just above them.

  10. Duran goes but Watkins 'happy' to staypublished at 17:13 Greenwich Mean Time

Wolves v Aston Villa (17:30 GMT)

There will be no super sub exploits for Jhon Duran for Aston Villa today after he joined Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr yesterday in a deal that could be worth up to £71m.

But in positive news, boss Unai Emery says fellow striker Ollie Watkins wants to stay at the club after Villa rejected interest from Arsenal.

"We asked him how he is feeling being with Villa and he is happy here," Emery said.

Disappointed to hear there were boos at SJP at the final whistle. Yes, we've been inconsistent over the course of the season but we're 5th, still in with a great chance of Europe. It's fans like this that give the fanbase a bad name. Arsenal semi final is the perfect game to bounce back

  12. 'I have a lot to improve'published at 17:09 Greenwich Mean Time

    Everton 4-0 Leicester

    Everton

Everton goalscorer Beto told BBC Sport: "It couldn't have gone much better for me. Unfortunately for Dom, Manga, Dwight, I want to say this victory is for them. We are happy to give them this joy.

"I was just running free and saw the space. My team-mates know me, I like to run behind. They know. I knew it was the best moments for me.

"It wasn't easy, we made it easy. We knew this game, we needed to win. They want to come here to beat us because we're fighting for the place. I'm really happy for the boys.

"We just keep working and keep improvng. We have a lot to improve. I have a lot to improve. We need to keep going. We can handle the criticism. We will work for the next week to beat Bournemouth."

  13. 'I think Wolves will get a point'published at 17:08 Greenwich Mean Time

Wolves v Aston Villa (17:30 GMT)

    .

While Villa have got goals in them, I am just not sure they will keep Wolves out.

Villa have not won any of their past six games straight after a Champions League tie, and I don't see this week being any different.

Wolves are on a horrible run of four successive league defeats, with 10 goals conceded and just one scored, so even a draw would be a boost for Vitor Pereira's side.

Pereira must also be worried about losing his main goalscorer, Matheus Cunha, before the transfer window shuts on Monday. I am not sure whether Cunha will stay, but I think Wolves will get a point here.

    Prediction: 2-2

  14. 'We fought and got a very important three points'published at 17:07 Greenwich Mean Time

    FT: Ipswich 1-2 Southampton

    Southampton

Southampton striker Paul Onuachu: "It was an intense game but towards the end of the first half we showed character. You have to fight and we fought and got the three points, very important.

"It doesn't matter how we score, it's about fighting to survive. Luckily the keeper passed it out and I had to be there to finish it."

On whether this result could be a turning point: "Yeah, when you are in this situation as a team, even though you play good, you lose and it is difficult. But today, hopefully, it is a new beginning. It's all about training and taking each game at a time. We try to fight to get points. That's what we are here for, to fight, to try to survive."

On what his goal means: "It's special for the team, especially today. First win, first three points under the new manager. It's a new beginning for us. We just have to keep fighting and see where we end up."
