Inter Milan have got what a lot of clubs are crying out for: stability. The coach hasn't revolutionised things nor turned over the squad too much from last season. Simone Inzaghi is going with what he has got. I am surprised that he does not get mentioned when big clubs in England are looking for managers. He never seems to get a mention. His Inter record speaks for himself.

Losing the Champions League final to Manchester City the season before last in Istanbul was the making of this Inter Milan team. They thought that they could have beaten City that night, they had chances to get back into the game.

Last year they won Serie A with five games to spare, beating rivals Milan in the derby to clinch the trophy. They are the best team in Italy without a doubt.

I can’t take it any longer. As much as I’d like to hold back my thoughts on Erling Haaland for later down the line this season, especially given we’re seeing star performance after star performance, I’ve decided to offer my take now. It’s a risk, I know...

Four Premier League games. Nine goals. Two hat-tricks. This is a new form of Erling Haaland you’re now witnessing in a Manchester City shirt, and we’re not just talking about an improvement in scoring form and efficiency in front of goal - though yes, it was possible.

You’re watching a 24-year-old seasoned professional in the art of goalscoring becoming more of a key component in City’s general build-up play. We’re talking about the dropping deep, holding up the ball, feeding in creative midfielders and wide players, before driving towards the opponent’s penalty area. Haaland is improving as an all-round footballer, both technically and in terms of his overall education in the game.

Credit to Pep Guardiola and his players, they have the Inter Milan visiting their stadium tonight and no one is giving them [Inter] a hope. Respectfully we know it is going to be a tough game, a really tough game, and City will have to perform.

Look at the form Erling Haaland has started the season in, they have also had the luxury of only just bringing Rodri back into the side, an exceptional team.

The early two games are over.

Sparta Prague, in their first Champions League group (or league) game in 19 years, whalloped Salzburg 3-0.

Champions League debutants Bologna drew 0-0 with Shakhtar Donetsk. The Ukrainian side had an early penalty saved - but that was their only shot on target. The Italians, who are yet to win a game this season, had the bulk of the chances.

Man City v Inter Milan (20:00 BST)

    Joe Hart
Former England & Man City goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

Rodri is just growing and growing as a player and a person. He is so highly valued by the team and by Pep Guardiola. He has been eased in, not been rushed back, probably will only get 60 minutes out of him tonight, but he looks raring to go.

Rodri and Guardiola are a perfect match. He is a student of the game, always wants to learn and improve. They have grown together since he joined the club, they spent big on him because they knew how much Pep wanted him. They are both now reaping the rewards.

Dara Sheahan: Why can’t Fifa just bring in a rule that caps club games at 40 or 45 a season? Would force managers to rotate, good for blooding kids in, increases competitiveness, better all around.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola made an interesting observation in his pre-match press conference.

In 11 years and almost 400 appearances for Barcelona, he scored 11 goals.

Erling Haaland has scored nine in four games so far this season. The Norwegian would eclipse over a decade's work from his manager in five matches if he managed another hat-trick tonight.

In terms of players going on strike, the blame lies with the managers. The whole idea of the squad system is that the managers should use their skill and judgement to vary their team selection as the need arises. They shouldn't expect to pick the same players week-in-week out. Perhaps the EPL should introduce a rule that players can only start 30 games a season, forcing managers to do their jobs properly?

Man City v Inter Milan (20:00 BST)

    Nicky Bandini
Italian football journalist on The Football News Show

By their standards Inter Milan have started this season slowly, but it is two wins and two draws, so we shouldn't make out that it has been a disaster.

There are little things that aren't quite where they should be; they fell behind to Monza at the weekend and had to come from behind. However they did rest a lot of players given it was off the back of an international break and the focus was on this game against Man City.

Will tonight be the night Erling Haaland gains entry to Manchester City's 100 club?

The Norway forward could overtake Cristiano Ronaldo as the fastest player to reach the milestone for a single club having scored 99 goals in 103 appearances in all competitions -- including nine in four league games this season.

Ronaldo scored 100 in 105 matches for Real Madrid.

A reminder, Haaland only joined Manchester City in June 2022.
