Borussia Dortmund know it will be a big ask this season to match last term's Champions League run, where they reached the final only to lose to Real Madrid.

Nuri Sahin replaced Edin Terzic, who left his role as Dortmund club soon after that Wembley defeat.

"I'm looking forward to my first match on this stage as a head coach," said Sahin before the game.

"The Champions League is something special, even if you already have 100 games under your belt. This competition deserves the highest respect."

Club Bruges reached the semi-finals of the Conference League last season.

"This is the best competition in the world," said midfielder Hans Vanaken.

"If you get to open against a finalist from last year, that's a great challenge. All the elements are there to make it a fun, great match. I hope that we get points."

Girona are another club making their Champions League debut today after the Catalan minnows finished third in La Liga last season.

Not only that but this is their first season in Europe at all.

Girona were in the fourth tier as recently as 2007 and are now Manchester City's sister club.

Boss Michel said:"Arriving here was our dream. A dream that we must all enjoy. We need to give the best version of ourselves and enjoy this moment, which is well deserved."

Luis Enrique's PSG start their first European campaign without Kylian Mbappe in many a year.

Captain Marquinhos said: "We're getting more and more used to the coach's philosophy.

"This hasn't really been a start to a new season but a continuation of last season. I think you can see that on the pitch. Now, we are looking to improve."
