  2. 'I don't see problems around Sancho'published at 22:32 British Summer Time 14 September 2024

    FT: Bournemouth 0-1 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca speaking to Sky Sports: "I think we played two different games. In the first half we struggled, didn't win duels, we didn't win second balls. The second half we were much better. But overall I think we create many chances, the game was there and we are happy.

"We knew before the game that Bournemouth were very high pressing and aggressive but for me it was more off the ball we struggled with duels and off the ball. In the second half we completely changed the picture and were much better. It's football.

On the improved second half: "When we started the second half, we were already better with the same players. We knew we had to get our shirts dirty, win duels and fight. If we are able to do this for 95 minutes, we win matches. All the games are different so you need different ways to win games."

On Jadon Sancho: "I don't see problems around Jadon [Sancho], around Joao [Felix], I don't see anything negative to be honest. Jadon is a very good player and I knew, because I know him, that he is a very good player and can help us. Now all the noise around him, I don't care. With us he's very polite, training well on and off the ball. We are happy for him."

On the yellow cards for him and his players: "I complained about a foul on Wesley Fofana which for me was quite clear but it can happen. Eight yellow cards probably because these sort of games are about duels and fight and this can happen. It is not a problem for me with this amount of yellow cards. It is what it is. Sometimes the game demands the way you have to behave."

  3. 'You have to punish them and we didn't' - Iraolapublished at 22:29 British Summer Time 14 September 2024

    FT: Bournemouth 0-1 Chelsea

    Bournemouth

Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "I'm really disappointed with the result. I'm very proud of the performance and we had more chances than them. They had more of the ball in a situation where it wasn't dangerous. Their keeper played very well."

"Against this kind of opposition, if you don't take your chances and you miss a penalty, you feel like they will punish you and they did in the end. We can't ask much more of our players. We have to keep in the same way and try to make these final attempts better.

On Evanilson: "I will not value his performance because he has scored. He has had a lot of chances. He created the penalty and he has been very good. He wants to score for sure but I will not focus on this. I am very happy with his performance.

"It's football. We played at home against Newcastle and Chelsea with two very good games and we have one point. We played very well, had more chances, pushed them and you have to punish them and we didn't."

  4. Sancho did 'exactly what we expected' - Marescapublished at 22:25 British Summer Time 14 September 2024

    FT: Bournemouth 0-1 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "First half we struggled, second half we were miles better. We didn't win many balls in the first half and you need that in this type of stadium against this team."

On Jadon Sancho: "He did exactly what we expected from him and Tosin Adarabioyo was the same and Christopher Nkunku too. Joao Felix was very good. All the guys from the bench were very good. We were creating chances and we needed just a bit more quality from inside the box and he [Sancho] did that. Nkunku is not starting but he is working very well."

On goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, who saved a penalty: "Since we started, he is doing very well with us and we are very happy. He is giving us what we need from a keeper and is doing very well with the build-up. He recognises when we need to play short or long. We enjoy the three points."

  6. 'We had more chances to score'published at 22:20 British Summer Time 14 September 2024

    FT: Bournemouth 0-1 Chelsea

    Bournemouth

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola, speaking to Sky Sports: "We played really well, we adjusted very well, the players understood very well what we have to do today, we created the chances, we had many more chances than Chelsea. You had to make the difference and the keeper [Robert Sanchez] especially made the difference, he was the best player on the pitch and one of the many reasons why they won the game."

On the game: "We had more everything, more shots, more corners but at the end what really matters is to score and they did it at the end.

On the penalty: "We have very clear [instructions], Evanilson and Justin Kluivert usually take the penalties. They had a talk between them and they decided to go with Evanilson. It hasn't been a bad penalty for me, it was a great save. We have to give credit to the keeper but we even after the penalty we had more chances to score before them."

On Evanilson's general play: "Even after the penalty miss he had a good chance. He maybe crossed the ball too much but he has been dangerous. I took him off because he ran out of energy which is normal. I'm happy because he has performed well. If he scores the penalty he is good and bad if he misses but I don't think it was like this."

On a record amount of yellow cards: "I will not talk about the referee. I have been talking and it is not working so I have decide now I will try the opposite and see what happens."

On whether he thought it was an aggressive or violent football match: "No but I will not talk."

  7. 'We have to be focused for Champions League'published at 22:17 British Summer Time 14 September 2024

    Aston Villa

"The crowd are understanding our ideas and style - we were progressively creating chances.

"Ollie Watkins is important for the team and Jhon Duran still having an impact is fantastic. Of course, with different competitions we will use different players to help the team.

"Watkins had chances to score more, we created chances and the strikers are there to score. He is fantastic and he is feeling better after he come back from the national team.

"He is intelligent and a good professional."

That is the exact type of game we'd have drawn 0-0 or lost 1-0 in the last few seasons. We all want to see second half v Wolves each week, but winning ugly is such an important skill we need to learn and this is a good start.

Rubbish performance but I'll take the three points. Don't think Anthony Taylor helped matters. Not sure many of the 14 were actually worth yellow cards.
