Surprised by the amount of thumbs down on that Garnacho post. Although thinking about it I've seen quite a few Chelsea fans online saying they'd be unhappy if the club bought Garnacho.

Chelsea fans, why the fuss? Do get in touch.

Bringing this back to our Benjamin Sesko and Carlos Baleba focus, it's still not clear whether Manchester United would be able to afford both this window.

Garnacho going for a big fee would certainly help.

Chelsea have stepped up their interest in Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho, according to The Guardian.

The 21-year-old has been exiled at Man Utd by manager Ruben Amorim and could be given a chance to reignite his career at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are yet to make an official approach for the Argentina international but are expected to do so.

  5. Grealish's wages 'the biggest stumbling block' for Evertonpublished at 14:20 British Summer Time 7 August

    Sami Mokbel
BBC Sport Senior football correspondent on Football Daily

Everton's interest in Jack Grealish is genuine. I think David Moyes sees him as a player that can add to their attacking impetus.

Nobody needs me to tell them how good Jack Grealish can be. He was a consistent performer at Aston Villa and Manchester City, during his first two seasons there, but he has just lost his way.

His career needs reinvigorating and, having spent some time with David Moyes over the years, I think he would be the perfect manager to get the best out of him.

I do think there is still some work to be done there on Everton's side of things, most notably to try and get his reported wages down. I think that will be the biggest stumbling block.

  7. Man Utd's financial position 'not as bad as people are suggesting'published at 14:14 British Summer Time 7 August

    Kieran Maguire
Football finance expert speaking to The Devils' Advocate podcast

Manchester United's position isn't as bad as some people are suggesting.

They have still got the sales of Scott McTominay and Mason Greenwood from last season, they were pure profit. They have that extra £5m from Chelsea for not taking on Jadon Sancho. They have just done two summer successful tours.

They are very good at bringing the money in; for example their ticket prices have gone up for this season and their wage bill is going to be down due to no Champions League. They are actually generating more money than people give them credit for.

They will have done their sums and budgeted to get in the top half of the table this season. They clearly think they are fine to spend.

    Jaffa cakes are 100% cakes.

When you add water to them they go firm, like a cake, unlike biscuits that go soft.

And that opinion is backed up by UK Law.

End of. Now, to the transfers!

  13. Newcastle 'too slow' and looking at a 'very small pool of players'published at 13:56 British Summer Time 7 August

    Luke Edwards
Daily Telegraph writer on Football Daily

There is a legacy aura around the traditional 'big six' clubs, so those clubs are still more attractive than Newcastle United from a reputational perspective.

Newcastle were too slow at the start of the window. That handover from Paul Mitchell to Andy Howe wasn't perfectly timed. If they had moved quickly, I think they would've signed James Trafford and Joao Pedro.

Ultimately, I think there are clubs that are more attractive than Newcastle. The club want 'plug in and play' players, who can come in and instantly impact the team, but that's a very small pool of players.

Forget about Benjamin Sesko and Hugo Ekitike, I think Trafford and Pedro have been the two biggest blows for Newcastle. They were two deals the club could've got done but failed to do so.

  16. Brighton's record salespublished at 13:44 British Summer Time 7 August

For a while now, Brighton's model has been to buy young players, develop them into stars and sell them if a club offers more than what the Seagulls value the said player at.

It has meant they have earned plenty in player sales in recent years which they have reinvested into signing more young and inexperienced youngsters.

Brighton have earned more than £250m from fellow Premier League side Chelsea alone by selling players.

It all began with the transfer of Marc Cucurella in the summer of 2022 for a fee of £60m, despite the Spaniard having played a single season in the Premier League then.

Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez was sold for £25m in August 2023 before Moises Caicedo a week later as the Ecuador midfielder broke the British transfer record when he left for £100m that could rise to £115m.

This summer, they also sold forward Joao Pedro in a £60m deal while Chelsea also paid £21m to sign head coach Graham Potter and his backroom staff in 2022.

Brighton have also sold defender Ben white to Arsenal for £50m while midfielder Alexis Mac Allister joined Liverpool for £35m in 2023.

    Brighton's most expensive sales:

    • Moises Caicedo - Chelsea - £100m (£115m with add-ons)
    • Marc Cucurella - Chelsea - £60m
    • Joao Pedro - Chelsea - £60m
    • Ben White - Arsenal - £50m
    • Alexis Mac Allister - Liverpool - £35m

  17. Who is Man Utd target Carlos Baleba?published at 13:38 British Summer Time 7 August

Carlos Baleba of BrightonImage source, Getty Images

Carlos Baleba is another of those players Brighton have managed to sign as an unknown quantity - and is now set to earn them a massive profit if a deal to Manchester United is worked out.

Born in Cameroon, he moved to France in 2022 to join Lille, where he started out in their reserve team.

The midfielder had to wait until the 2022-23 season to make his first-team debut under Paulo Fonseca. But after making 19 Ligue 1 appearances during that season, Brighton came calling for the youngster.

The Seagulls reportedly paid about £23.2m for a 19-year-old Baleba - just 12 months after his Lille debut - as a replacement for Moises Caicedo, who joined Chelsea for £115m.

Baleba, 21, has since become a regular at the club, making 61 Premier League appearances over the last two seasons and scoring three goals during the 2024-25 campaign.
