  1. Man Utd finances: 'Some of the scare stories were overblown'published at 13:25 British Summer Time 7 August

    Kieran Maguire
    Football finance expert

Even if their [Manchester United's] signings come to £200m, it is £40m a year and they will recover that by selling players in the "bomb squad".

Some of the scare stories put about a few months ago were perhaps a bit overblown.

Man Utd is not as successful as a business as they would like to be, but they are still successful.

For example their wage bill is around half of their income, which is very good by Premier League standards.

  2. 'Sesko effectively forces this move to the Premier League'published at 13:18 British Summer Time 7 August

German football expert Constantin Eckner says Benjamin Sesko is determined to get a move to the Premier League and will be out to prove some doubters wrong should a transfer get done.

Sesko has been linked with a move to England's top flight all summer with a move to Manchester United now reportedly close to being finalised.

  3. 'Man Utd are not in as good a position as Liverpool or Chelsea'published at 13:12 British Summer Time 7 August

If Benjamin Sesko signs for Manchester United, manager Ruben Amorim will have to sell first to finance any further reinforcements to his squad.

The club lost £131m in the 2023-24 financial year. And while quite a bit of that was interest and the costs of the Ineos takeover, which doesn't count towards PSR, it is still not emblematic of a club in rude health.

"Man Utd can't spend as much as Liverpool and Chelsea," said football finance expert Kieran Maguire. "Of the 'big six', Man Utd are not in as good a position.

"But they are still in a good position. They have the biggest stadium, so the highest matchday revenues, and have one of highest commercial revenues. They are an attractive brand."

  7. Dibling 'bigger talent than Harry Kane'published at 13:00 British Summer Time 7 August

Southampton winger Tyler Dibling has been linked with a move to Everton

Everton remain in negotiations for Southampton winger Tyler Dibling who is reportedly not taking part in contact training at St Mary’s to protect any potential move, although the clubs are yet to agree on a fee.

Everton’s current record signing is the £45m they paid for Gylfi Sigurdsson in 2017 and it is a figure they could yet exceed to secure Dibling’s services – and former Southampton boss Russell Martin believes he would be worth every penny.

Martin coached James Maddison and Harry Kane earlier in his career but speaking to The Rest Is Football podcast, he said he rates Dibling even more highly at a similar age.

“When I was there I had to play it down a lot and not make things more difficult for him. But he is the most talented player I’ve ever worked with, seeing him on the training pitch, seeing him live. Tyler has every capability to play for England and at the top level for a very long time."

Martin says that Dibling could play eight, 10, as a false nine or on the wing for any new club.

“He’s powerful, he’s really quick, (uses) both feet. Physically, the stuff I’ve seen him do at 18 in the Premier League, people just bouncing him off him and being put on the floor when he dribbles – he has something I’ve not seen in a British player for some time.”

  8. Would Dibling and Everton be a good match?published at 12:56 British Summer Time 7 August

    Matthew Hobbs
    BBC Sport

Such was Tyler Dibling’s impact during the first half of his debut Premier League season, he was hailed as a generational talent and linked with a £100m move to top six clubs.

Fast forward seven months and the 19-year-old has been subject to multiple bids from Everton, although Southampton are reportedly holding out for £45m.

So would Everton be getting a bargain for a young player with a high ceiling, or was Dibling overhyped in the early stages of a season which totalled just two Premier League goals and no assists?

Firstly, the teen talent only has two years left on his current contract, meaning the astronomical price tag of January has subsequently reduced.

Dibling, who made his Premier League debut under former Southampton boss Russell Martin on 17 August 2024, also suffered from a drop-off in form in the second half of 2024-25.

This can be partly attributed to the sacking of Martin in December and the subsequent shift to an uber defensive approach under Ivan Juric and then Simon Rusk – a style of play simply not suited to Dibling’s attacking instincts.

But there is no doubt that Dibling – who could be a record signing for the Toffees – would be a signing based predominantly on potential. Martin believes that the England Under-21 international “needs the right kind of style and environment to thrive”.

Would Everton be the right fit? Thumbs up for yes, down for no.

Carl: Bill Shankly often spoke of there being one casket buried under the Kop - many ashes were scattered but only one casket buried. The ashes of my grandad, about a foot down in the goal in the Kop. Shankly would say the man under the Kop would head goals in and head them out, he referred to him as the invisible menace.

It's something I've been hugely proud of, to know my DNA is in that ground. My roots are part of one of the things that makes Liverpool special and unique.

My grandmother wrote to the club and Shankly replied personally. He was buried on a cold and frosty morning - his name was Henry Jones.

  10. Dibling's rise to prominencepublished at 12:45 British Summer Time 7 August

    Southampton

Tyler Dibling has attracted interest from a number of Premier League clubs after scoring twice in 33 Premier League appearances during a breakthrough 2024-25 campaign for Southampton.

Despite the Saints' swift return to the Championship, the young English winger has earned plenty of plaudits recently, having also scored a double against Swansea City in an FA Cup third-round tie in January.

Dibling is a product of the Southampton youth system but moved to Chelsea for a brief spell in 2022 before returning to the south coast the same year after just two appearances for the Blues academy.

After impressing Russell Martin with is performances in Premier League 2 where he bagged four goals and five assists during 2023-24, he made his first league appearance against Sheffield Wednesday in January 2024.

Dibling made his Premier League debut in August 2024 at Newcastle United and scored his first professional goal in a 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town last September.

  13. Dibling 'withdrawn from full-contact training' amid interestpublished at 12:25 British Summer Time 7 August

    Sami Mokbel
BBC Sport Senior football correspondent on Football Daily

Everton have had three offers turned down so far for Southampton's Tyler Dibling. The latest bid was around £40m plus an extra £5m in add-ons.

I understand that Tyler Dibling has been withdrawn from full-contact training at Southampton ahead of the 2025-26 season, which is obviously in preparation for any potential move. It isn't because he has kicked off, it is purely a club decision.

The information varies on how close a deal is. If you speak to people close to Everton, they will tell you that the deal has reached an impasse and Southampton are asking for far too much. However, people close to Southampton believe Dibling's time is coming to an end on the south coast.

  14. Hojlund wants to stay at Man Utdpublished at 12:20 British Summer Time 7 August

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport chief football news reporter

It is just over a week ago that Rasmus Hojlund sought out journalists after he had scored in Manchester United's victory over Bournemouth to declare his intention to stay at the club.

Since then, United's move for Benjamin Sesko has gathered pace, which puts Hojlund's place under threat.

I have been told that is still the case and Hojlund would welcome the competition.

Whether that remains the case if Sesko signs and Hojlund finds himself omitted for the Premier League games before the transfer window closes remains to be seen.

However, as of now, the Dane is determined to prove himself at Old Trafford.

  15. Antonio tops West Ham's charts in Premier Leaguepublished at 12:17 British Summer Time 7 August

Michail Antonio remains West Ham United's top Premier League goalscorer, netting 68 goals during his 10-year stint at the club, with Jarrod Bowen the next closest on 56 goals.

The 35-year-old striker also holds the record for the most Premier League goal contributions for the club, also setting up 33 assists in 268 league appearances to bring his total to 101.

He also played a key role in West Ham's 2022-23 Conference League win.

Dubravka, 36, has signed a one-year deal at Turf Moor, where he will wear the club's number one jersey.

The Slovakian, who has made over 50 appearances for his country, joins Burnley from Newcastle where he featured 179 times since moving to the Magpies from Sparta Prague in 2018.

Dubravka had a loan spell at Manchester United in 2022-23, playing a couple of matches in their Carabao Cup win that season.

"I'm delighted to be here," says Dubravka. "It's a really exciting time to be joining this Club, ahead of our return to the Premier League.

"I've only heard really positive things about the club, the culture and the environment we work in, so I'm excited about getting going with the season kicking off next weekend.

"Burnley had a fantastic campaign last season, built on a superb defensive record, and I can't wait to come in and add my experience and quality to what looks an exciting squad of players.

"I'm really looking forward to playing for the club in front of our passionate fans."

  19. West Ham sign Wilson to plug Antonio gappublished at 12:04 British Summer Time 7 August

West Ham United unveil new signing Callum WilsonImage source, Getty Images

West Ham's newest signing Callum Wilson is the most obvious replacement for departing goalscorer Michail Antonio.

The 33-year-old left Newcastle United as a free agent this summer, after failing to agree a new contract with the club, but was quickly snapped up by the Hammers on a one-year contract.

Wilson was limited to just 18 Premier League appearances last season, with Alexander Isak leading the pack, so he will be hoping for more minutes this season.

The Hammers' other striking options include Niclas Fullkrug, Jarrod Bowen and youngster Callum Marshall.
