Wolverhampton Wanderers have won three of their last four Premier League games against Aston Villa (D1), as many as in their first 12 against them beforehand (D4 L5).
Aston Villa have lost five of their last six away league visits to Wolves (W1), winning the other 1-0 in the 2020-21 Premier League season.
Following their 2-1 win against reigning champions Manchester City last weekend, Wolves will be looking to win back-to-back Premier League games for the first time since April last season.
Aston Villa have won 15 points from their seven Premier League games this season (W5 L2); only in 1998-99 have they won more points at this stage of a campaign in the competition (17). In fact, it’s the most points a side has won after seven games despite having lost on MD1 since Arsenal in 2018-19 (also 15).
Wolves have lost just four of their 13 home Premier League games in 2023 (W8 D1), having lost each of their final four on home soil in 2022. They’ve won five of their last eight at Molineux (D1 L2) keeping a clean sheet in four of those wins.
Based on every team’s last 20 Premier League games, only Manchester City (52) have won more points than Aston Villa (42 – W13 D3 L4).
Heading into the weekend’s games, only Crystal Palace (4) have made fewer changes to their starting XI in the Premier League this season than Aston Villa (5), while only Newcastle (10) and Brighton (9) boast more different goalscorers (excluding own goals) than Villa (8).
Hwang Hee-chan has scored five of Wolves’ last nine Premier League goals. Nine of his overall 12 goals in the competition have either drawn Wolves level (2) or put them one goal ahead (7), netting the winner last time out against Manchester City.
Only Erling Haaland (23) and Harry Kane (17) have scored more Premier League goals than Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins in 2023 (16). He was directly involved in four of Villa’s six goals against Brighton last time out, netting a hat-trick and assisting Jacob Ramsey’s strike.
Each of Douglas Luiz’s last two Premier League goals for Aston Villa have come in the 97th minute or later (v Crystal Palace and Brighton). Only four players have had a longer run of goals being scored consecutively in the 90th minute or later in the competition: Chris Eagles (4 ending in October 2011), Shaun Wright-Phillips (3 ending in May 2004), David N’Gog (3 ending in October 2009) and Michael Olise (ongoing run of 3).
