    Man City 2-0 Borussia Dortmund

Manchester City's wingers have caused problems so far in this match and Savinho skips down the right once again before sliding across for Erling Haaland but the Norwegian's low shot is saved.

    Newcastle 1-0 Athletic Club

The referee has just spared Joelinton's blushes.

Athletic Club can't deal with the ball over the top and Joelinton forces a fine save out of Unai Simon before hoofing it over the top from inside the box.

I'm immensely proud of our academy at City. Players like Haaland are once in a lifetime acquisitions who you really just have to appreciate while they're here. But academies are the lifeblood of clubs, Foden and O'Reilly in particular recently have just emphasised why you need to nurture young talent.

Whoops. It's all a bit messy at the back for Manchester City and Karim Adeyemi tries to take advantage but Josko Gvardiol makes a crucial block then Gianluigi Donnarumma is able to punch the ball away.

  5. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 20:41 GMT

    Newcastle 1-0 Athletic Club

Anthony Gordon drops to the turf holding his hip and looks like his night is over. A real shame for him with the upcoming England squad set to be announced on Friday.

He is replaced by Jacob Murphy.

Inevitable Erling does it again. He is phenomenal. Staggering statistics. The terminator of modern football. He is lethal. Two goals a game average. Unreal!

  7. 'Really good from Adeyemi'published at 20:40 GMT

    Man City 2-0 Borussia Dortmund

Former Man City midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live at the Etihad

Really good from Karim Adeyemi as he steps inside - he has a bit of difference in his game.

  8. Postpublished at 20:40 GMT

    Man City 2-0 Borussia Dortmund

Karim Adeyemi forces Gianluigi Donnarumma into a decent save.

Five minutes or so remaining of this first half for Dortmund to try and make the scoreline a little less daunting for the second half.

Bruno Guimaraes goes for the long diagonal for Joelinton but overhits it. Someone of his quality will have been looking to nail that pass.

Phil Foden threads through a nice ball for Erling Haaland but it's just ahead of him and the striker opts to cross back across goal. Julian Ryerson takes it away from the feet of the advancing Nico O'Reilly.

Julian Ryerson grapples with Jeremy Doku but it looks like he's injured himself in the process. He receives a bit of treatment on the pitch but it looks like he's going to continue.

  12. 'Woltemade showing what an intelligent player he is'published at 20:36 GMT

    Newcastle 1-0 Athletic Club

    Stephen Warnock
Former Liverpool defender on MOTD: UEFA Champions League

Nick Woltemade has stood out for me so far, with such good link-up play - he is involved in most of the good things Newcastle have done.

He is showing us what an intelligent player he is. He is not the quickest, but he chooses his moments so well to make his runs or come looking for the ball.

You can hear more from Warnock on MOTD: Uefa Champions League at 22:40 GMT on BBC One and the BBC Sport website and app.

No one is getting their head on that free-kick. Poor from Kieran Trippier.

  14. Postpublished at 20:35 GMT

    Man City 2-0 Borussia Dortmund

We've just seen a replay of that foul on Jeremy Doku from Serhou Guirassy. I think some will argue that's a yellow card at the very least, perhaps even more serious than that. But without a yellow card from the referee VAR can't intervene.

    Newcastle 1-0 Athletic Club

Sandro Tonali goes down as he dances around Robert Navarro. Another chance for Dan Burn to get his head on this free-kick.

  16. English dominancepublished at 20:34 GMT

    Man City 2-0 Borussia Dortmund

    Shamoon Hafez
Football news reporter at Etihad Stadium

Manchester City are currently up to fourth in the Champions League group phase table.

Fellow English sides are performing admirably too with Arsenal in second, Newcastle in sixth, Liverpool in eighth and Tottenham ninth.

Chelsea's draw at Qarabag leaves them in 11th position.

  17. 'How can you overlook Foden?'published at 20:34 GMT

    Man City 2-0 Borussia Dortmund

    Michael Brown
Former Man City midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live at the Etihad

64th Champions League appearance for Phil Foden and 19 goals.

Talk about England - should he be in the squad? How can you overlook him?

I don't think that is possible anymore.

  18. Postpublished at 20:34 GMT

    Man City 2-0 Borussia Dortmund

Hmmm. Serhou Guirassy fouls Jeremy Doku and it looks like it could be a booking but referee Szymon Marciniak says no.

Tijjani Reijnders walks onto the ball in the penalty box and hits it well but Gregor Kobel parries away.

  19. Postpublished at 20:34 GMT

    Newcastle 1-0 Athletic Club

A nice spell of possession here for Athletic Club but they're struggling to really threaten this Newcastle backline.

It's tidy stuff but needs to be more than that.

  20. Eddie Howe demanding morepublished at 20:32 GMT

    Newcastle 1-0 Athletic Club

    Ciaran Kelly
BBC Sport reporter at St James' Park

Eddie Howe repeatedly clapping his hands on the touchline, urging his Newcastle United players to win the ball back quickly. Athletic Club have responded well to going behind and have already sent a couple of warning shots.
