    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Arne Slot was asked about the potential departure of Darwin Nunez and if that means the club will pursue Alexander Isak: "These are a lot of questions I do not want. You never talk about players that are not yours so I can talk to you about Hugo [Ekitike] who we have signed recently and has done really well until now.

"We are very happy with the squad we are having and there is every reason to be happy because we won the league last season. Ok, players left but we have brought players in as well and the youngsters doing well.

"At this moment in time, Darwin might leave but things are not signed yet so we need to wait a few days until that maybe is completely done but there is a chance he could leave."

Liverpool manager Arne Slot on how the tributes to Diogo Jota have impacted people at the club: "First of all tragedy impacted us the most but it impacted far more his wife, children and parents. It impacted us definitely as well and the tributes that have been done have all been very emotional and impressive. It started off in Preston but it has been emotional and impressive as well."

Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo believes the team are ready to hit the ground running as they prepare for Sunday's Community Shield against FA Cup winners Crystal Palace.

With several new faces joining the squad this summer, Gakpo says Liverpool's tight-knit dressing room has made it easy for arrivals to settle quickly, and he is hopeful the Reds can start the season on the front foot by lifting silverware in the annual curtain-raiser and then carry that momentum into the Premier League campaign.

"It was a good pre-season from the team. I think we worked very hard and enjoyed some good games as well. I think everybody is eager to start now this upcoming weekend. I can't wait," Gakpo told club media.

"We have a good group in general. That makes it maybe a little bit easier to adapt for new players to come in. I think a lot of the players knew each other, maybe from playing against each other in the national team or things like this. I think they adapted well and quickly - hopefully they feel at home as well.

"Obviously, we're going to play the Community Shield. It's going to be an important game for us to start the season well, and that's what we're here for. We're going to give it our best shot."

Liverpool fan, I give us a 7.5 out of 10. Great incomings, very happy with them. Outgoings have left us short at CB and a forward. We've gone from 6 attackers to 4 (Chiesa to leave). Isak and Guehi would calm my nerves, but they dont feel imminent.

  7. Who are Chelsea's attacking options?published at 08:55 British Summer Time

    Chelsea

Chelsea have spent close to £1.5b since the summer of 2022 and boast an attacking line-up that could be the envy of most football clubs.

This transfer window alone, they have signed Liam Delap from Ipswich Town, Joao Pedro from Brighton and Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund.

Not to forget, highly rated Brazil attacker Estevao Willian, who scored against them in the Club World Cup, also completed a move that was agreed last summer.

Sporting winger Geovany Quenda will also arrive at Stamford Bridge next year after Chelsea agreed a deal worth around £40m for the 18-year-old.

It all means that Enzo Maresca will have a squad brimming with even more attacking talent if their pursuits of Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United and RB Leipzig attacking midfielder Xavi Simons bear fruit in the coming weeks.

    Enzo Maresca's attacking options:

    • Cole Palmer
    • Jamie Gittens
    • Tyrique George
    • Estevao Willian
    • Pedro Neto
    • Nicolas Jackson
    • Christopher Nkunku
    • Joao Pedro
    • Liam Delap

NB: Raheem Sterling, Carney Chukwuemeka, Armando Broja and David Datro Fofana are expected to leave the club this transfer window.

Chelsea fans could see three of their summer signings in action for the very first time when their side face Bayer Leverkusen in their first pre-season friendly today.

Forwards Estevao Willian and Jamie Gittens as well as defender Jorrel Hato are set to feature for the very first time today against the Bundesliga side.

Joao Pedro and Liam Delap could also make their home debuts at Stamford Bridge.

Enzo Maresca's side only returned to training this week after their successful Fifa Club World Cup campaign in the United States.

The Blues also face AC Milan on Sunday before their Premier League opener against FA Cup winners Crystal Palace on 17 August.

I really don’t think Chelsea need Garnacho - he’s a threatening player for sure but a terrible finisher. As a Chelsea fan I’m hoping we play Joao Pedro or Estevao there with Delap in the middle.

We've had news of potential incomings at Chelsea this morning but there could be outgoings too, with striker Armando Broja expected to complete his transfer to Burnley in the next 24 hours.

The 23-year-old has taken a few days to weigh up the move and negotiate the terms of his contract after a club-to-club agreement thought to be worth up to £20m was made over the weekend.

Broja is excited about a first permanent move away from Stamford Bridge and keen to play regular first-team football.

It will be Burnley’s third signing from Chelsea this summer. Midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu joined this week and a loan move for Bashir Humphreys was made permanent for a combined £55m.

Despite our somewhat frivolous spending, we (LFC) have yet to sign a much needed cb, possibly requiring 2. Moreover, if the Isak deal doesn’t go through and perhaps even if it does, we still require an additional attacker to regain our depth from last season. 8/10 so far.

Another deal in the pipeline is Darwin Nunez moving to Al-Hilal, with the Saudi Pro League side having reached an agreement to sign the Liverpool striker for 53m euros (£46.3m)

The 26-year-old Uruguay forward joined in June 2022 from Portuguese side Benfica for an initial fee of £64m.

Nunez has scored 40 goals in 143 appearances but only started eight Premier League games during Liverpool's title-winning campaign last season.

Selling Nunez would financially boost the Reds' chances of signing Newcastle striker Alexander Isak in this transfer window.

How much did this defeat expose Tottenham's transfer business this summer?

It was a stroll for the Bundesliga champions; Harry Kane scored against his former club to get things going, before goals from Kingsley Coman and youngsters Lennart Karl and Jonah Kusi-Asare.

Spurs fielded two of their new signings - Joao Palhinha and Mohammed Kudus - but with injuries mounting before the new season, Thomas Frank's side looked bereft of options.

James Maddison's ACL injury will see him miss the majority of the season and a lack of creativity was evident in Germany.

After the match, Frank said: "[We are] definitely in the market in general.

"Nobody feels close or far away. I'm not saying anything before there's anything that is completely 100%.”

Tottenham's next match is their first competitive one under Frank - against Paris Saint-Germain in the Uefa Super Cup next Wednesday.

    Chelsea

Noni Madueke of Chelsea celebrates scoring his team's first goal with teammate Jadon SanchoImage source, Getty Images

Chelsea have been in the market for another left-sided attacker throughout this summer.

And it now looks like Manchester United's Alejandro Garnacho is the one the Blues have zeroed in on.

Despite their splurge in the transfer market in recent years, Chelsea are short of options on the left wing heading into the new season and used Pedro Neto, traditionally a right winger, on that side during the Fifa Club World Cup.

Enzo Maresca's side decided not to buy Jadon Sancho after his loan stint last season by paying a £5m penalty to United while Noni Madueke joined Arsenal for an initial fee of £48.5m last month.

They are also without Mykhailo Mudryk since last December after the Ukraine international was charged by the FA for an anti-doping violation.

It means summer signing Jamie Gittens and 19-year-old Tyrique George are Chelsea's only left wingers during a season in which they will return to the Champions League and hope to finish in the top four in the Premier League again.

Things are quite busy at Old Trafford because Chelsea are also in talks with Manchester United over signing Argentina winger Alejandro Garnacho.

Garnacho came close to joining Chelsea in January.

  20. 'Man Utd will next turn to solving midfield issue'published at 08:10 British Summer Time

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport chief football news reporter

Manchester United's agreement to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko for £74m will take their summer spending on their forward line past £200m, but now the question is 'who is going to play in midfield?'

Head coach Ruben Amorim was determined to massively increase his side's goal output having scored just 44 times in the league last season, their worst return since being relegated in 1973-74.

Sesko will be the third attacking arrival this summer after Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, but centre midfield remains an issue for United, with a question mark or two around each of the candidates to play one of those two positions.

And that has led to the club quietly trying to establish what the terms would be to sign Cameroon midfielder Carlos Baleba from Brighton.
