The updates around John Eustace's prospective move back to Pride Park as Derby County boss have been hard to come by today.

As it stands, Eustace remains head coach of Blackburn Rovers.

However, the team at BBC Radio Derby have been right across it and they understand that "final details" are being worked through.

If a deal is struck in time, Eustace could be at Pride Park tonight to watch on.

It is amazing that they are still where they are in the table with the form that they have been in.

I think it shows what the Championship is about.

There are so many teams that are much of a muchness, none have been cast adrift at the bottom of the league this year, anyone can beat anyone.

They lost last time out to Blackburn, they are yet to lose consecutively under Paul Heckingbottom.

Teenage striker Mamadou Doumbia retains his place after an impressive first start in league football on Wearside.

Leeds United boss Daniel Farke goes back to the same 11 who started the win at Coventry last Wednesday night.

That means 10 changes from the team who began the FA Cup defeat by Millwall on Saturday, with skipper Ethan Ampadu the only player to start all three games.

League leaders Leeds have the chance to extend their advantage over third-placed Burnley to eight points with victory tonight.

Daniel Farke's men were knocked out of the FA Cup on Saturday by Millwall after making 10 changes from the midweek league win over Coventry, illustrating how much of a priority promotion is this season.

The Whites are unbeaten in their past 13 league matches and have kept clean sheets in their past five games.

Tonight's hosts Watford were denied a morale-boosting win at Sunderland on Saturday by Denis Cirkin's late equaliser for the home side.

The Hornets' form at Vicarage Road had been exemplary until Christmas but they've now lost their past four games in front of their own fans.

Victory tonight would be a shot in the arm for their flagging play-off push AND inject a bit more drama into the title race.

Frank Lampard is aiming to avoid consecutive Championship defeats for the first time as head coach at Coventry City.

The Sky Blues have lost their past two games, at home to league leaders Leeds United and against Ipswich Town in the FA Cup.

They welcome Queens Park Rangers to the CBS Arena looking to avoid a third home defeat in a row, with the Hoops level on points and trailling their hosts on goal difference.

Marti Cifuentes' side have had a full week of to recover from Tuesday's 2-1 victory over Blackburn Rovers.

The two sides drew 1-1 at Loftus Road in their previous meeting in October.

    Portsmouth v Cardiff (19:45 GMT)

Cardiff City's unbeaten start to 2025 was ended emphatically in their most recent Championship outing against league leaders Leeds United.

The high-flying Bluebirds were brought crashing back down to Earth in a 7-0 mauling at Elland Road.

Omer Riza's side came through an FA Cup classic to reach the fifth round of the FA Cup - throwing away a two-goal lead before scoring a late equaliser to eventually knock Stoke City out on penalties after the match ended 3-3 after extra time.

That result will have been a welcome boost ahead of their trip to Portsmouth's Fratton Park, a ground where they haven't tasted defeat in the league since 1974 (W1, D5).

How John Mousinho and the Pompey faithful would like to claim that first win for more than 40 years tonight and climb further away from the relegation places.

  19. Rams have new boss in the wings and old one in the dugoutpublished at 19:12 Greenwich Mean Time 11 February

    Derby v Oxford (19:45 GMT)

Oxford manager Gary Rowett at Pride ParkImage source, Rex Features

As of right now Derby have not named Blackburn boss John Eustace as their new gaffer but it does appear to be a formality at this stage.

That means Matt Hamshaw leads the Rams for the second time after taking a point at Norwich on Saturday, the day after Paul Warne was sacked.

That result ended a run of seven successive losses but wins are what they need to climb out of the relegation zone, they're without one in all competitions since 26 December.

Things are going rather better for former Derby boss Gary Rowett at Oxford.

The U's were in relegation danger when he took over in December but a win tonight would move them 12 points clear of the bottom three.

One name is on the lips of every Derby County supporter right now – John Eustace.

It’s been pretty apparent over the past 24 hours that the 45-year-old former Rams midfielder would most likely be leaving his role as head coach of promotion-chasing Blackburn for the vacancy at relegation-battling Derby County.

Anticipation has grown throughout the day.

Around the ground this evening, conversations have ranged from the quizzical - when will they confirm it? Will Eustace be here tonight? - to excited optimism about what could lie in store.

And there is little wonder why. Eustace guided Blackburn to safety last season and would be parachuting a long way down the league standings to take the helm of his former side.
