Albion fans have not seen their side score at home since 21 September

West Bromwich Albion's home goal drought went on as Burnley became the fourth side in seven games at The Hawthorns this season to play out a goalless draw.

The Baggies still climbed two places in the Championship to fifth after drawing for the sixth game running.

But it was their third straight home draw without a goal to leave Carlos Corberan's side, who were top in September, now winless in eight matches. They have only scored twice at home all season - both in 1-0 victories.

Burnley, who have now failed to score in three games themselves, remain two points ahead of the Baggies in fourth, four points shy of the automatic promotion places.

In a game of few clear-cut chances, the Clarets came closest to breaking the deadlock.

In the first half, Alex Palmer denied his former Baggies team-mate Jeremy Sarmiento when clean through.

Jaidon Anthony also headed in a 55th-minute left-wing cross from Lucas Pires but it was harshly ruled out for a perceived push in the back on Callum Styles.

Pires then hit the left upright three minutes later with a low shot - but, despite the determined efforts of both sides, it was a largely forgettable encounter.

After shut-outs at both ends in their previous two home games against Millwall and Cardiff City, the fifth successive goalless half of football at The Hawthorns contained very few moments to worry the scoreboard operator.

Aside from an eighth-minute header by Zian Flemming that was blocked, Burnley had the only other on-target effort of the first half when former Baggies loan man Sarmiento had a great chance after being put clear, only for home keeper Palmer to save with his legs.

The Baggies worked busily, forcing a couple of frantic Burnley scrambles but the closest they came was Styles' fierce shot which went just over.

It was much the same story after the break. Albion had one effort blocked, their only shot on target, while Burnley had their two close shaves - but it still all adds up to just three goals scored at either end in the Baggies' first seven home games this season.

Burnley's next game is at home to Swansea City on Saturday (15:00 GMT), while Albion's final game before the international break is at Hull City on Sunday (13:00).

Binary Baggies

Remarkably, only three players have enjoyed the thrill of hitting the back of the net in the seven league games at The Hawthorns this season - Josh Maja and Jayson Molumby for Albion.

Hayden Hackney's strike for Middlesbrough in the 73rd minute on 1 October was the last goal to be scored there, now 37 days ago.

  • 5 October: Millwall, 0-0

  • 26 October: Cardiff City, 0-0

  • 7 November: Burnley, 0-0

West Bromwich Albion head coach Carlos Corberan told BBC Sport:

"I don't know how strong or weak the challenge was for the disallowed goal - but it was a clear push.

"We didn't find the right solutions. We are not finding our best level. In the second half they were better than us."

Burnley boss Scott Parker told BBC Sport:

"The only man who didn’t think that was a goal [Jaidon Anthony's disallowed effort] was the referee.

"It was very, very soft, but he's given what he's given – and it's gone now.

"I asked for a reaction from the team following a disappointing result on Sunday – and I got that.

"We created chances. Aside from the disallowed goal, we also hit the post and Jeremy Sarmiento missed a one-on-one."
