It was too left field (I even down voted myself!) but I wanted a keeper in the mix. What about Maradona - good with his hands and left peg?

Ronaldo has spent much of his career as a goal scorer. He's brilliant at scoring with his feet and with his head. But he has the skills to play at a high level in virtually any position. So for me, Ronaldo is far and away the most complete footballer of all time.

    Steve Guilford, Cheltenham

It’s laughable how people do not think Ronaldo is a complete player. Every single football fan would take a prime Ronaldo in their team. Only player to win a league title in England, Spain, and Italy. Winning Golden Boot in each league.

    Anon

Even if you disagree with Ronaldo..you can sort of see his point..look at the stats and facts..the guy will probably play in a 6th World Cup and is the highest goal scorer at the so called highest level which is international.

    Awwwwwwhhhhh. Happy birthday Matt's dad.

But also, let's not set a precedent.

Don't all start texting in asking for birthday messages. We don't want to turn this live into a "XXXX player, can I have your shirt?" kind of thing.

Another footballing royalty birthday today, my dad David (71). While the heights of County Seniors suggest he may not have been the most complete player he's most certainly the most complete father... HBD dad!

Another one for you all to ‘hear me out’….Steve Bruce…unbelievable defender, but also scored 114 goals in his career which included 19 in the 90/91 season. He was also very unselfish, a real team player, highlighted by the fact he never played for England, as it would prove too easy for him (not fact) Player-manager for Sheffield United, followed by a decent managerial career.

With Tottenham sat 14th and 13 points off the top seven with 14 games to go, qualifying for European football this season will be an uphill task for Spurs this term.

The winner of the EFL Cup is guaranteed a spot in the final qualifying round of the Conference League, meaning winning the EFL Cup could be Tottenham's best chance of playing European football next term.

Newcastle, who have a 2-0 lead over Arsenal in the other tie, may also benefit from this, but do stand a strong chance of finishing in Europe via league position this term.

Liverpool and Arsenal, the current top two, would ensure themselves of Europe, but are already expected to qualify for the Champions League this season, meaning their Conference League qualification would be deferred.

Back in September, Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou said that he "always" win things in his second season as manager.

That came after a 1-0 defeat at home to rivals Arsenal.

Sitting 14th in the Premier League, a league title will not be coming their way this season. However, they do remain in all three cup competitions.

Should they get through the second leg, all that would stop Spurs from a first trophy in 17 years is a Wembley date with either Newcastle or Arsenal.

Spurs' 2-0 win at Brentford on Sunday marked an end to a run of no wins in seven in the Premier League.

In their 12 league games since the start of December, Tottenham have picked up just two wins and eight points from a possible 36, averaging 0.22 per game.

Ipswich, Leicester and Southampton, the Premier League's current bottom three, are the only sides with fewer points in that time.

Tottenham head to Anfield on Thursday night to take on Liverpool in the second leg of the EFL Cup.

Spurs are 90 minutes away from a place in next month's final at Wembley, having won the first leg at home 1-0 last month.

In fact, simply because of Ian's last post, we're not going to talk about complete footballers for a full 20 minutes....

....Incidentally, Tottenham have a news conference coming up which should take about 20 minutes to complete.

Someone like Ronald Koeman must be in with a shout for most complete player. Obviously great defender, but scored over 200 goals in his career, was a great passer of the ball and a great free kick taker as well. He really could do it all.

I've asked people in the past 'if you could clone a player to play in every position, who would it be?' The answer is invariably Rooney.
