I always liked Gerard Pique's take on the Messi-Ronaldo debate.
He said something like, "Messi is on another level, he's not human. But Ronaldo, he is best of the human footballers".

Lionel Messi brings goals, assists and a World Cup into the conversation. No question who's the most complete. He wouldn't say that about himself either.
Gav, Dublin
Ronaldo is a better header of the ball than Messi (though Messi did score a crucial header in a CL final) but Messi beats Ron in every other department, not least the way in which he stirs the soul. And he won the World Cup.

The CR7 and Messi debate will carry on long after most of us are gone. For me Ronaldo has to be the greatest striker of all time. Messi though imo is the most complete footballer of all time.
Anon
Ronaldo more complete than Messi?! Goals and assists for European clubs & country - Messi 1177, Ronaldo 1074 (in 122 MORE appearances). Ronaldo also taken 63 more penalties. Ronaldo, more complete striker, Messi, more complete forward and creator.
Joe

Right, just hear me out. What about Phil Neville for most complete player? Both footed, could play ANYWHERE across defence and midfield, won tons of caps for England despite there being better players in each position due to his 'completedness' and tons of trophies at Man Utd. Was a captain at Everton as well.

Speaking of unused texts, someone who didn't leave their name called me "the Bebe of live texters" while I was on my break.
Very intriguing, thanks Jonty.
We didn't include it in the live but one of the few texters in who backed my no offsides idea was a "Joe in Salford". Seemed a bit too fishy said my boss.
So Paul is suggesting Paul Madeley for the most complete player.
At 12:12, David suggested David Luiz.
Are we seeing self-promotion hidden in plain sight here?
To help uncover these mysteries, I (Jonty) re-introduce Joe Rindl to the fold...

Most complete footballer list surely has to contain Paul Madeley at Leeds United. Played in 9 different positions and scored from all bar 1.

FT: Burnley 1-0 Oxford
Burnley head coach Scott Parker spoke to BBC Radio Lancashire after his side returned to the automatic promotion places by beating Oxford.
"The first 45 minutes I thought we were nothing short of superb. We really dominated the game and we were everything we weren't at the weekend throughout," he said.
"We created a lot of chances and showed real quality.
"It's fair to say that going in at half-time 1-0 up was a little unjust because it could have been more. We missed some big chances.
"Overall I was delighted with the team, our general endeavour and the way we went about it tonight.
Going forward though, Burnley haven't been great.
Only one team in the top 12 - Blackburn - have scored fewer than Burnley's 37 league goals this season.
Burnley have only scored once in three games, and even that was the own goal provided to them by Oxford last night.
Burnley's current run is brilliant.
Scott Parker's side have not lost a game since November 3 in all competitions, and have kept clean sheets in nine of their last 10.
In fact, they've only conceded nine goals in the league all season, from 31 games.
FT: Burnley 1-0 Oxford
A reminder. Last night, Burnley moved back into the Championship automatic promotion places as they beat Oxford at Turf Moor to extend their unbeaten league run to 18 matches.
The Clarets' positive start was rewarded just after the half-hour when defender Michal Helik diverted Josh Cullen's cross into his own net.
Greg Leigh spurned Oxford's best chance to level before the break, while U's goalkeeper Jamie Cumming produced three saves to deny the hosts a late second.
The result extended Clarets' phenomenal defensive record with a ninth successive clean sheet and 22nd of the season from 31 Championship matches as the visitors were unable to register an attempt on target.
Slot - Alexander-Arnold will miss EFL Cup sem-final
Liverpool manager Arne Slot says right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold will miss the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final against Tottenham on Thursday.
The shouts for who is the most complete player of all time, whether in jest or not, have been great fun.
Do keep them coming!
This afternoon, we're going to be discussing the incredible run Burnley are on in the Championship, be hearing Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou and look ahead to the EFL Cup semi-finals.

How can Gerrard be the most complete player when Lampard is better in almost every aspect of the game? ;)
Ben, Norwich
Oh Ben, you're opening a whole new can of worms with that one.

May be a left field shout but David Luiz was one of the most complete footballers, could play along the back line in the centre of the park score screamers of free kicks and penalties… also had mastered the “dark arts” who can forget that smirk after a foul against Man Utd.
David
