  1. Hibs must relish 'tough test' - Graypublished at 12:26 British Summer Time 11 August

Hibs head coach David Gray: "It's a tough test, but one you should look forward to.

"We fell below our standards in the second half last week. The reaction has been good in training and hopefully we can show that today.

"It's about what we do, being disciplined, sticking to the game plan and showing composure on the ball.

"I'm delighted with the business we've done. Nicky Cadden is slightly behind on his pre-season training - we need to be sensible.

"Junior Hoilett is still recovering from an injury he picked up with the national team, but he's progressing nicely. Kieron Bowie gives us a good option off the bench."

In fact, Brendan Rodgers' first encounter with Hibs was also a draw. That was at Celtic Park, though.

That John McGinn was quite good, eh? Wonder what's up to these days.

  3. Rodgers' ropey Easter Road recordpublished at 12:20 British Summer Time 11 August

    Hibernian v Celtic (12:30)

Despite being green and white, Brendan Rodgers doesn't like Easter Road too much.

He only got his first win in Leith last February - and it was a late one.

The four previous games across both his spells as Celtic boss have resulted in two draws and two defeats.

  4. Gray appointment 'a clever decision'published at 12:18 British Summer Time 11 August

More from Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers: "It's a really clever decision for Hibs to put David in charge. Hibs are always a good side, they've got good players.

"I also think Malky Mackay as sporting director will be a huge benefit for him and the club. Malky has huge experience in the game - that will be a big help for David. I'm excited for him. There are so many great moments and memories ahead for him.

"Hibs want to play football and attack the game; I'll know more over the season about what his philosophy is."

  5. 'O'Riley not crying to leave' - Rodgerspublished at 12:15 British Summer Time 11 August

Matt O'Riley arrives at Easter RoadImage source, SNS

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers tells BBC Scotland he isn't aware of any new bid from Atalanta for midfielder Matt O'Riley.

"It's new to me if they have," he says. "I spoke to Michael [Nicholson] last night, so I haven't heard anything more on that.

"He's just focusing on his game - you see how he's played for Celtic in the last year, his attitude is fantastic, and until anything changes on that, we'll continue to work with him.

"He remains very much a part of our team. He respects where we're at as a club, he's not crying to leave and you can see that in how he plays.

"We're realistic as well - if a club comes in with a valuation that fits what we think Matt is at and he gets a chance to triple his wages, it's very hard.

"What I'm not prepared to do is let a player leave below what we value them at."

  6. 'McGregor made hardest decision in the world'published at 12:12 British Summer Time 11 August

    Hibernian v Celtic (12:30)

Away from the transfer rumour mill, the big news coming out of Celtic this week was Callum McGregor's international retirement.

His former captain Scott Brown made the same call during his playing days and said his pal has made the "hardest decision in the world" by ending his Scotland career.

But it's a decision that should benefit the current Celtic skipper's club career. Manager Brendan Rodgers also alluded to that, even if he admitted he was being selfish about it.

Below-par Hearts slumped to a 3-1 defeat at Dens Park

The result of the day on Saturday was at Dens Park, where Dundee stunned Hearts by racing into a remarkable 3-0 half-time lead.

The Jambos pulled one back in the second half but deserved no more than that against Tony Docherty's impressive side - they're having some start.

Earlier in the day, Rangers got their first win of the season with a narrow 2-1 victory over Motherwell at their temporary home, Hampden.

And the other Premiership match saw Ross County score a 95th-minute equaliser to deny Dundee United three points in the Highlands.

Sportscene highlights of all three games are available on the iPlayer.

    • Hibs have won just one of their last 21 meetings with Celtic in all competitions (D7 L13), a 4-2 league win in May 2023.
    • Since the Scottish Premiership began in 2013, Celtic have won just four of their 15 away league games at Hibs (D8 L3), a win rate of 27% - their lowest away from home against any league opponent in this period.
    • After losing 3-2 to St Mirren last season, Hibs could suffer defeats in their first home league match of successive top-flight seasons for the first time since 2010-11/2011-12 – with Celtic their opponent in the second such match on that occasion (lost 2-0).
    • As well as having 32 shots and 13 shots on target in their 4-0 win over Kilmarnock on matchday one, Celtic enjoyed 82.1% possession. It was the most by a team in a Scottish Premiership match since Celtic had 82.2% against St Mirren in March 2023.
    • Since the start of the 2022-23 Premiership season, Celtic’s Matt O’Riley has 26 assists in the competition, seven more than any other player. O’Riley has registered at least one assist against 11 of the 12 sides he has faced in the league; the only side he hasn’t is Hibs in eight games.

Brendan Rodgers names the same team that started last Sunday's 4-0 win over Kilmarnock.

It means Matt O'Riley, who continues to be linked with a move away, stays in the Celtic midfield, along with Reo Hatate and captain Callum McGregor, who retired from Scotland duty this week.

Rodgers is boosted by the return of forward Daizen Maeda to the matchday squad following a knee injury.
