For [Slot] to make the move to the Premier League, especially to a big club like Liverpool into the footsteps of Jurgen Klopp, I think no one expected him to actually do what he did with his staff and his players.

In the beginning people were thinking someone’s coming in from the Mickey Mouse league, what’s he going to do at Liverpool but very soon he turned around the criticism with beautiful football, with charisma and I think everybody now sees what he’s capable of doing and the most interesting thing is probably still to come.

I’m sure he’s not going to sit still. It’s strange to talk about when you’ve just won the league but I’m sure that in the back of his mind he’s already planning for next season.

Can we stop the "other teams not good enough" narrative. A league title is the ultimate test of consistency. You can win a cup with luck but not a league title. And I'm not a Liverpool fan.

    Tom

Oh Dave, this time last season 82 points was top of the league. Do us all a favour and stop pretending this isn't incredible.

    Zac, London

I’m not having this argument that Liverpool are only champions because others have dropped off. The gap may have been smaller but nobody should underestimate what they have achieved this season. People seem to forget the strong start Liverpool had and they’ve been up there pretty much ever since. Deserved champions!

Aup, it's me again back from me hollibobs.

I've seen that take of Dave's a lot throughout the season.

I'm curious - do people genuinely believe that? Believe that every other team in the Premier League just happens to be bad the year Liverpool win it.

Surely the competitiveness of the league as a whole has just increased? Hence the gap between those in the relegation spots.

I don't know - you guys tell me. Get involved, you know what to do.

You can't blame the pundits. No one saw Liverpool winning it because, on paper, they were expecting the other teams to show up, and they didn't. Had Arsenal, City, Man United and Spurs played as well as they did last season, the Liverpool's place would be as predicted. They weren't that good, others were just worse.

Some of those predictions are going to sting a bit, I'm not going to lie.

But for those who predicted a top-four finish for Manchester United and Tottenham, there is at least safety in numbers...

  7. What were people saying in pre-season about Liverpool?published at 10:21 British Summer Time

Well, they weren't talking about them being title contenders that's for sure.

On the back of the departure of Jurgen Klopp, the immediate future in terms of success for Liverpool was uncertain.

Prior to this season getting under way, we asked 30 different BBC Sport pundits their predictions for the 2024-25 Premier League season.

Of the 30, none predicted Liverpool would be champions.

In fact, only two of the 30 believed the Reds would even finish in the top two, while three had them missing out on the top four completely.

We will have to take your word for it now, I suppose.

We don't mind admitting that none of BBC Sport's pundits tipped Liverpool for the title...

  9. Wrapped up with four games leftpublished at 10:16 British Summer Time

    Liverpool 5-1 Tottenham

While winning the Premier League title with four games left to play is impressive, it comes nowhere near the record Liverpool set the last time they won it.

Jurgen Klopp's side wrapped up the title with seven games remaining in 2019-20, the earliest a team has ever won the Premier League.

The current Liverpool side join Manchester United and Arsenal as the joint-third fastest title winners.

Klopp leaving last season was greeted with similar disbelief to when Bill Shankly retired in the seventies, before his team reached their full potential. Bob Paisley took Liverpool on to incredible heights at home and abroad, and then went on to surpass the achievements of his predecessor with European and domestic trophies galore. So, no pressure on Slot!

  11. Can Liverpool beat the record?published at 10:07 British Summer Time

    Liverpool 5-1 Tottenham

With four games left to play, Liverpool lead second-placed Arsenal by 15 points.

If Arne Slot's side maintain that gap, it will be the fourth-biggest margin of victory in a Premier League title race.

The biggest was set by Manchester City in 2017-18, when they finished 19 points ahead of second place.

Manchester United held the previous record of 18 points, set in 1999-00, a margin Liverpool matched when Jurgen Klopp last led the Reds to the title in 2019-20.

  12. 'It defies belief'published at 10:04 British Summer Time

    Liverpool 5 - 1 Tottenham Hotspur

    Martin O'Neill
Former Nottingham Forest manager and player on BBC Radio 5 Live

Former Nottingham Forest manager Martin O'Neill also waxed lyrical about the job that Arne Slot has done at Liverpool after taking over from Jurgen Klopp:

"It was fantastic achievement by him, because they had the team but didn't win the league, he didn't make that many changes, must be difficult for players who have been loved by the manager beforehand - he has to make all of those changes and it's not just at a small club, it's at Liverpool as well.

"So, what he's done has really been fantastic because from the outside it seems totally seamless. Their consistency this season really has been unbelievable in many aspects and he deserves all the credit in the world.

"It defies belief really because they won it with games to spare."

  13. 'One of the great coaching performances we've seen'published at 09:59 British Summer Time

    Gary Neville
Former Manchester United defender on Sky Sports

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville spoke about the brilliance of Liverpool manager Arne Slot and how he's coached them to a Premier League title:

"I think they deserve great congratulations. I think it's one of the great coaching performances that we've seen - to come in from Jurgen Klopp, to not get the players he wanted in the transfer window, to have the shadow of the three, probably the best players in their positions in Europe, hanging over him all season, you've got to hand it to him.

    "It's absolutely a brilliant achievement."

Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo believes the team can build on the successes of this season in 2025-26 and is hopeful a certain Trent Alexander-Arnold will be part of it.

Speaking to LFCTV long after the final whistle had gone on Sunday, Gakpo said: "The group didn’t change much from last season, so you can build on the team as well.

“Now with Mo [Salah] and Virgil [van Dijk] staying, and hopefully Trent as well, then you can keep building on that team hopefully for many years to come.”
