Klopp leaving last season was greeted with similar disbelief to when Bill Shankly retired in the seventies, before his team reached their full potential. Bob Paisley took Liverpool on to incredible heights at home and abroad, and then went on to surpass the achievements of his predecessor with European and domestic trophies galore. So, no pressure on Slot!

  2. Can Liverpool beat the record?published at 10:07 British Summer Time 28 April

    Liverpool 5-1 Tottenham

With four games left to play, Liverpool lead second-placed Arsenal by 15 points.

If Arne Slot's side maintain that gap, it will be the fourth-biggest margin of victory in a Premier League title race.

The biggest was set by Manchester City in 2017-18, when they finished 19 points ahead of second place.

Manchester United held the previous record of 18 points, set in 1999-00, a margin Liverpool matched when Jurgen Klopp last led the Reds to the title in 2019-20.

  3. 'It defies belief'published at 10:04 British Summer Time 28 April

    Liverpool 5 - 1 Tottenham Hotspur

    Martin O'Neill
Former Nottingham Forest manager and player on BBC Radio 5 Live

Former Nottingham Forest manager Martin O'Neill also waxed lyrical about the job that Arne Slot has done at Liverpool after taking over from Jurgen Klopp:

"It was fantastic achievement by him, because they had the team but didn't win the league, he didn't make that many changes, must be difficult for players who have been loved by the manager beforehand - he has to make all of those changes and it's not just at a small club, it's at Liverpool as well.

"So, what he's done has really been fantastic because from the outside it seems totally seamless. Their consistency this season really has been unbelievable in many aspects and he deserves all the credit in the world.

"It defies belief really because they won it with games to spare."

  4. 'One of the great coaching performances we've seen'published at 09:59 British Summer Time 28 April

    Liverpool 5-1 Tottenham

    Gary Neville
Former Manchester United defender on Sky Sports

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville spoke about the brilliance of Liverpool manager Arne Slot and how he's coached them to a Premier League title:

"I think they deserve great congratulations. I think it's one of the great coaching performances that we've seen - to come in from Jurgen Klopp, to not get the players he wanted in the transfer window, to have the shadow of the three, probably the best players in their positions in Europe, hanging over him all season, you've got to hand it to him.

    "It's absolutely a brilliant achievement."

Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo believes the team can build on the successes of this season in 2025-26 and is hopeful a certain Trent Alexander-Arnold will be part of it.

Speaking to LFCTV long after the final whistle had gone on Sunday, Gakpo said: "The group didn’t change much from last season, so you can build on the team as well.

“Now with Mo [Salah] and Virgil [van Dijk] staying, and hopefully Trent as well, then you can keep building on that team hopefully for many years to come.”

I'm a 51-year-old, sat with tears running down my face, as I'm seeing and reading all the messages and posts about Liverpool - my boyhood club I've supported since 1978. And the icing on the cake, is that the season isn't even over yet!

Liverpool FC - what a classy champion. Entertained us all throughout the season. Slot added a measure of composure to Jurgen’s heavy metal and delivered a masterful season. Can’t wait for him to deliver number 21.

  12. Arne slotted straight inpublished at 09:19 British Summer Time 28 April

Arne Slot replacing Jurgen Klopp as manager last summer was arguably the main reason why many fans and pundits doubted Liverpool's Premier League title credentials.

The Dutchman immediately set about proving them wrong.

By beginning the season with 2-0 defeats of Ipswich and Brentford and a 3-0 thrashing of Manchester United, Slot became the first manager to win each of his first three Premier League games without conceding a single goal since Sven-Goran Eriksson in 2007.

Eight wins in his first 10 Premier League games was the best ever return for a new Liverpool manager.

  14. Liverpool's 234 days on toppublished at 09:10 British Summer Time 28 April

    Premier League

Rarely has a team dominated a Premier League season like Liverpool.

By the end of the campaign Arne Slot's side will have spent 234 days top of the table.

In the last 10 years, only Manchester City in 2017-18 (240 days) and Liverpool in 2019-20 (346 days) spent longer at the summit en route to winning the title.

The Reds' stay in 2019-20 was, of course, elongated by the prolonged season due to the Covid-19 restrictions.

Without doubt the owners of LFC need to back Slot in the transfer market this summer. You recruit from a position of strength if you have any sense.

Lots of questions about why Slot - but surely it was the same as with Jurgen: Klopp to the Kop; Arne to Arnfield (sorry)

Been a Liverpool fan since 1971. Having not seen the title won at Anfield with spectators since 1990 it was a truly emotional day. Slot has been a revelation. I honestly thought at the start of the season that top 4 would be a good start for him.

    Julian

I first went to Anfield as a young lad in 1963, stuck in the middle of the Kop. Over the years I have seen the ups and downs but yesterday seemed there was something different and special, so to the mighty Reds and The Cool One 🧊 congrat’s and let’s go and do the same next season. YNWA
