Lucas Andersen signed for QPR on a free transfer from Danish club Aalborg BK last February
Substitute Lucas Andersen scored a 93rd-minute winner in spectacular fashion as Queen's Park Rangers came from behind to beat Preston North End 2-1.
Preston defender Liam Lindsay nodded in low goal past Rs keeper Paul Nardi to give the hosts the lead seconds before half-time.
It took until the 80th minute for QPR to equalise thanks to Jonathan Varane's half-cleared cross, which fell for Michael Frey to drive in from 15 yards.
Andersen proved to be the hero of the day though as he sweetly hit a strike outside of the box in the fourth minute of injury time to clinch all three points for his side at the very death.
Before the match both teams were neck and neck with Preston in 16th one place and point behind QPR, and although relegation was not mathematically impossible, the threat of spending next season in League One was unlikely for both clubs.
The first half was a scrappy affair with 13 free-kicks awarded from fouls and in between QPR's Tottenham loanee Yang Min-Hyeok spurned a one-on-one opportunity on goal in the 12th minute.
Play was stopped for five minutes as Hoops winger Koki Saito suffered what looked like a shoulder injury, with the Japanese attacker leaving the pitch on a stretcher.
Lindsay then scored the opener for Preston in the fifth minute of timed added on at the end of the opening period with his first goal of the season, as veteran wing-back Robbie Brady's curling cross came in and the centre-half lost his man to crash in a powerful header past Nardi.
QPR came out after the restart with far more vim in their attack but still struggled to equalise. Rayan Kolli just missed to the right of the post from close range on the 49th minute and the 20-year-old had a shot blocked from the centre of the box 13 minutes later.
The bench proved to be Marti Cifuentes' greatest weapon as the arrival of Frey and Andersen turned the game on its head.
Swiss striker Frey hooked in a powerful effort from Varane's corner following the Lilywhites' failed attempt to clear the ball efficiently in the box.
Andersen then struck from outside of the box to land the ball in the top left corner of the goal past a helpless David Cornell to create joyous scenes for the travelling supporters.
'Change needs to happen' - post-match reaction
Preston North End manager Paul Heckingbottom said:
"You can't park [the disappointment]. You can't forget it. That's got to be what drives you and makes sure you make the changes.
"I've just been having a conversation with Peter (Ridsdale, club director). I don't need to wait until tomorrow to calm down. Why would I want to do that?
"It's obvious what needs to happen. Change or be changed. That's it. How much is possible won't be determined by me.
"That's what I'd do but I don't think I'll be able to do that, so it's going to be hard work."
QPR manager Marti Cifuentes told BBC Radio London:
"I'm really happy for the guys because it's not easy to win here. They've only lost two games in the whole season [before match at home] and it's not an easy team to play against.
"We spoke in the week that it would be an uncomfortable game to play because of the way they do.
"A very physical team, they defend very aggressively, man-to-man almost all over the pitch.
"It's about using the space behind. I think the first 35-40 minutes we did pretty well to use this space and gaps in behind but unfortunately we couldn't take - in my opinion - what would have been a deserved lead because we were creating chances."
