Walsall’s winning run began with the dramatic 3-2 victory over Notts County on 3 December and saw them win 1-0 at then-leaders Port Vale four days later before beating Barrow by the same scoreline the following weekend.

They picked up 2-0 wins against Harrogate, Doncaster and Newport either side of Christmas before a comeback 2-1 win at Meadow Lane to see-off Notts County again on New Year’s Day.

If they see this through they'll have won eight straight in the league for the first time...

    • Walsall 3-2 Notts County
    • Port Vale 0-1 Walsall
    • Walsall 1-0 Barrow
    • Harrogate 0-2 Walsall
    • Walsall 2-0 Doncaster

Overall, they've had one real opportunity with Forrester from six yards out.

I just love the way we look more relaxed, the high press has worked a treat, we've just got to be a little bit wary that we don't get caught on the break with the high press.

Overall a fantastic first half from Rotherham.

  3. 'Cold day but hot heads'published at 13:30 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    Football, eh?

For 30 minutes, the League Two leaders were in full control and looking set to cruise to a club record eighth-straight win.

Then, bizarrely, the red card for Tranmere's Sam Finley has actually affected the hosts more than the visitors.

The dismissal galvanised Rovers and Connor Jennings' fine strike has given them a sniff of what seemed an unlikely point. The next goal here is key.

Walsall boss Mat Sadler will be happy to get his team in to the dressing room and calm a few tempers.

Bolton fail to clear their lines efficiently enough, very similar to the goal they conceded at Mansfield on New Years Day.

And we're punished again. Bolton have got real work to do now.

  5. HALF-TIMEpublished at 13:26 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    Rotherham 2-0 Bolton

Rotherham are two up at the break thanks to Mallik Wilks' composed finish from the penalty spot and Reece James' first goal for the club.

Wilks slotted home from 12 yards after he was brought down by Ricardo Santos, who was perhaps lucky to only be booked for the challenge as Wilks was clean through.

James then doubled the lead just before the break with a fine arrowed finish into the bottom corner.

Bolton have enjoyed plenty of possession without creating too much danger, while the Millers have carried more attacking threat when they get forward and punished the visitors accordingly.

  6. goal

GOAL: Rotherham 2-0 Boltonpublished at 13:23 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    Reece James (45+6 mins)

Rotherham double their lead and it's a first goal for the club for Reece James!

Joe Powell crosses from the left and Bolton's George Thomason is there to clear but he hammers it at Cameron Humphreys and it drops for James in the box.

James then fires low into the bottom corner brilliantly on the stroke of half-time.

  7. HALF-TIMEpublished at 13:20 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    Walsall 2-1 Tranmere

If Walsall aren't 13 points clear at the top of League Two in an hour or so's time, then something truly extraordinary will have happened this afternoon...

They have bossed the half and had a healthy lead through Jamille Matt's guided header and Ryan Stirk's low blast from outside the box.

They have the numerical advantage too after Sam Finley's red card for two highly-avoidable bookings, one for a high challenge, the second for deliberate handball.

Connor Jennings' late strike has given Rovers hope, but with 10 men against a side seeking a club record eighth-straight win, it's a very tall order in a game which has seen numerous flashpoints on a frigid day...

  8. INJURY TIMEpublished at 13:18 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    Rotherham 1-0 Bolton

There is going to be seven added minutes at the end of the half after referee Alan Young had to be replaced by Paul Cooper.

  9. 'Sadler will be disappointed'published at 13:18 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    Walsall 2-1 Tranmere

    Tom Heslop
Member of Walsall media team on BBC WM

It was good block initially from the first shot but Jennings hits a good strike through bodies.

It was a nice finish take nothing away, but Matt Sadler will be disappointed his side have conceded so close to half-time.

  10. YELLOW CARDpublished at 13:18 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    Walsall 2-1 Tranmere

Walsall midfielder Jamie Jellis goes into the book for the hosts after being adjudged to have brought down Cameron Norman.

  11. CLOSE!published at 13:18 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    Rotherham 1-0 Bolton

Aaron Morley comes rushing onto a cutback for Bolton and hits it first time but it flies just over the bar from the edge of the box.

  12. Postpublished at 13:16 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    Rotherham 1-0 Bolton

Fourth official Paul Cooper has replaced referee Alan Young and we're now finally back under way.

We're going to have a fair amount of stoppage time shortly, you'd imagine.

  13. goal

    Connor Jennings (44 mins)

    Game on?

Some hit this is. Ryan Stirk's block in the Walsall box rolls to Connor Jennings on the edge of the box and he thumps a low strike back with interest, flicking off Stirk's toe to take it past Tommy Simkin in the Saddlers goal.

Three added minutes at the end of the half. That goal has changed the mood slightly.

Just his fourth in the league and only Rovers' 18th of the season.

  14. Postpublished at 13:15 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    Rotherham 1-0 Bolton

Probably not the ideal day for players to be standing around waiting for some technical gear to be sorted for the officials. It's currently 1°C in Rotherham.

  15. CLOSE!published at 13:12 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    Walsall 2-0 Tranmere

Rovers defender Jordan Turnbull has had a bit of a torrid half and conceded possession in his own half allowing Jamille Matt to find Nathan Lowe.

The 19-year-old has 14 league goals already and is full of confidence but after spinning 20 yards out, he can only drag a low shot past the base of Luke McGee's left post.

  16. Postpublished at 13:11 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    Rotherham 1-0 Bolton

We've got a break in play at the New York Stadium as the referee comes over to the side of the pitch. Looks like a technical glitch with his communication gear... this might take a minute or two to resolve.

  17. 'Tranmere down to 10 men'published at 13:11 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    Walsall 2-0 Tranmere

Walsall fans on their feet waving Sam Finley off the pitch.

The first challenge was bad, the second one was inexplicable. Tranmere down to 10 men.

  18. Postpublished at 13:10 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    Rotherham 1-0 Bolton

That goal from the penalty spot by Mallik Wilks lifts Rotherham three places from 16th to 13th as things stand.

Can Bolton muscle their way back into this contest?

  19. 'Just what Rotherham need'published at 13:09 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    Rotherham 1-0 Bolton

    Andy Giddings
    Sports Editor, BBC Sheffield

    Wilks scores!

A little side step, sends the keeper the wrong way and rolls the ball to the keeper's left-hand corner. A deserved lead for Rotherham.

That's just what Rotherham need and we've mentioned before but when we do take the lead we're not too bad at keeping it.

  20. RED CARD Sam Finley (Tranmere)published at 13:08 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    Walsall 2-0 Tranmere

    It's been coming...

So avoidable too, 38 minutes on, Jamie Jellis pinches possession off Finley in the centre circle but the Rovers man falls on the ball, dragging it back with his hands to prevent Jellis breaking away.

The most obvious second yellow card Jeremy Simpson has probably ever issued.

Finley pleads in vain that he was fouled. He's not the ref.

    Walsall in complete charge.
