    Walsall 2-0 Tranmere

Great cover from Cameron Norman the Rovers right-back to halt a promising Walsall break from their own goalmouth after Jamille Matt's clearing header.

Liam Gordon led the break but Norman managed to get back to pinch the ball off Nathan Lowe on the right and then 'earn' a free-kick to relieve the pressure.

Norman was the man in the media storm this week after Rovers claimed on social media they didn't need Trent Alexander-Arnold, following TV comments from Roy Keane.

On that showing, they might be right...

A calm trot towards the ball and Mallik Wilks slots it home from 12 yards, rolling it into the bottom corner as Bolton keeper Nathan Baxter dives the wrong way.

That's a fourth goal of the season for Wilks, who dances around in joy to celebrate.

Advantage Rotherham and you have to say, they've looked the more threatening in this first half.

  3. YELLOW CARDpublished at 13:05 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    Rotherham 0-0 Bolton

Bolton's Ricardo Santos is booked for the clumsy foul in the penalty area. Presumably the ref's chat with the assistant was about whether that should've been red.

Mallik Wilks was clean through but Santos evades further punishment.

What a strike through the bodies from Ryan Stirk.

We've been desperate for him to score because he's had a few tries from that range this season.

  5. Postpublished at 13:04 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    Walsall 2-0 Tranmere

Rovers frontman Harvey Saunders tangles with Walsall defender Harry Williams as they try to chase a ball down the Rover right channel but this time, despite ending up in a heap, there is no flashpoint and Saunders pats Williams on the back by way of apology. Good to see.

  6. PENALTY TO ROTHERHAMpublished at 13:03 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    Rotherham 0-0 Bolton

    Now then...

Mallik Wilks goes clean through into the area and is brought down by Ricardo Santos. The ref takes a moment before pointing to the spot. He's gone over to chat with the assistant...

  7. CLOSE!published at 13:03 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    Rotherham 0-0 Bolton

Mallik Wilks gets the better of Bolton's Will Forrester and bursts down the left. He squares across the face of goal but Wanderers clear.

Joe Powell then clips a wonderful ball to the back post for Shaun McWilliams who was sneaking in to meet it but he heads wide. A good chance for the Millers goes to waste.

  8. 'Leaders need to keep their cool'published at 13:01 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    Walsall 2-0 Tranmere

    Michael Beardmore

Walsall have been working day and night to get this game on today - and given their form, it's no surprise.

The leaders have been all over Tranmere in the opening quarter of this game and fully merit their two-goal lead.

As it stands, the Saddlers are moving 13 points clear at the top... but there's plenty of time yet for things to change of course.

Right now, they just need to keep their cool - after the second goal, there have been two big flashpoints and melees.

  9. Postpublished at 13:01 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    Rotherham 0-0 Bolton

Another effort from range for Rotherham, this time from Mallik Wilks.

A bobbling daisy-cutter with his left foot... it rolls comfortably wide.

  10. YELLOW CARDpublished at 13:00 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    Walsall 2-0 Tranmere

Jeremy Simpson has a job on here. Very very tetchy indeed.

Jordan Turnbull also picked up a caution after that previous melee and Sam Finley becomes the third Rovers player to have his name taken after flying into a high tackle on Oisin McEntee, who picks up a booking too for his reaction.

Tranmere's Kristian Dennis also has his name taken for backchat.

Not sure we finish this one with 22 on the pitch, I'll be honest.

Nigel Adkins needs to cool them down (irony!) but it's still over 15 minutes until half-time.

  11. Postpublished at 12:59 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    Rotherham 0-0 Bolton

Bolton are trying to play out from the back but Rotherham are pressing well. Roars of approval from the home crowd as Alex MacDonald makes a strong tackle on Szabolcs Schon. It ends amicably in a smile and a handshake, though.

Plenty of possession for the visitors but it's the Millers who have carried slightly more threat in attack so far.

  12. Postpublished at 12:56 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    Rotherham 0-0 Bolton

Alex MacDonald unleashes an ambitious powerful low drive from range for Rotherham but fizzes it a good five yards wide of the upright.

  13. YELLOW CARDpublished at 12:55 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    Walsall 2-0 Tranmere

    Tranmere's frustration is growing.

Tom Davies clatters into Nathan Lowe near the touchline and picks up a booking from referee Jeremy Simpson.

The home players are not at all happy with that treatment of their 19-year-old loan star.

Long chat with Jamille Matt and Rovers Sam Finley too before the official heads to the touchline to talk to the managers and fourth official.

Very heated scenes on a very cold day when it's barely touching zero.

  14. Postpublished at 12:53 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    Rotherham 0-0 Bolton

Bolton probe around the edge of the Rotherham area with some neat build-up play. A cross comes to nothing but signs of promise.

Just as we say that, Mallik Wilks gets into a decent area at the other end for Rotherham, bundles his way into the box and fires into the side-netting.

    Intriguingly poised at the moment...

    Ryan Stirk (22 mins)

    The Saddlers are in dreamland...

Taylor Allen's blast from a free-kick hits the wall before being squared to Ryan Stirk who fires a powerful low strike, a pea-roller really, into the bottom corner leaving Luke McGee flat-footed.

    Walsall are rampant.

  16. Postpublished at 12:52 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    Walsall 1-0 Tranmere

Tommy Simkin is hatless in the Saddlers goal today, if ever there was a day for a club-branded baseball cap this was it.

A giant celestial orb is dazzling away in a cloudless sky over the opposite goal and he's staring right into it.

Wonder if Luke McGee will have one in the second half. If not I fear the game I grew up with has truly gone...

What a ball in there and it's textbook Jamille Matt.

The ball in from Taylor Allen is superb. Perhaps we don't cross the ball in for Matt enough but that's what he can do.

It's a delightful header, I'm absolutely delighted for him!

  18. AFC Wimbledon v Cheltenham is OFFpublished at 12:50 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

After a pitch inspection in South London, AFC Wimbledon have confirmed their 15:00 kick-off against Cheltenham Town has been postponed.

"Despite the best efforts of our ground staff and volunteers, the ground remains frozen in parts of the south end on the pitch," said AFC Wimbledon, external.

"Two staff members moved growlights on the pitch on the hour, every hour, throughout the entire night, with operations staff working from the early hours doing everything in their power to get the match on.

"But with temperatures reaching minus 5 degrees overnight, this eclipsed the limit of our new pitch covers which protect up to temperatures of minus 3. With the sun out and our growlights being put to good use, we remained hopeful of getting the game on.

"At 09:00, the referee liaised with the EFL regarding a 12:30 inspection, as all parties wanted to get the game on – and were in constant contact throughout.

"Even at midday with the covers being removed, we were hopeful that the match would be playable. Sadly, at this stage the frozen areas were deemed unsafe by the referee."

Jamille Matt doing it at both ends for Walsall, producing a clearing header and then hacking away from his own goalmouth, as Tranmere try to mount a swift reply down the left hand side.

  20. Postpublished at 12:49 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January

    Rotherham 0-0 Bolton

Bolton float the free-kick to the back stick for Will Forrester to divert on the volley towards goal but it's fairly tame and straight at Rotherham keeper Dillon Phillips.
