Game of the night? We’re certainly not going to argue.

Both sides were among the early League One pace-setters before dropping their first points on Saturday when Rovers were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Wycombe while the Terriers were stunned 3-2 at 10-man Blackpool, all the goals and red card coming in a crazy half-hour spell in the first half.

Lee Grant's Town will seek to get back to business against Grant McCann's newly-promoted Yorkshire rivals who have had the better of them of late and have won three straight away games, in addition to pumping Middlesbrough 4-0 at The Riverside in the EFL Cup a week ago.

Huddersfield have gone seven games without a win against Doncaster over the past 20 years and have drawn the past four home meetings in that time.

They do have a good record against Yorkshire sides at home, however, losing only one of their past dozen encounters, to Hull in 2024, and taking 27 points in total.

This promises to be one not to miss.

League One’s last remaining perfect record is set for a big test as Stevenage head to Port Vale this evening.

Alex Revell’s men have picked off Blackpool, Rotherham and Northampton in their opening three games to sit top of the pile ahead of the trip to Burslem.

Darren Moore’s Vale (pictured) began the campaign with defeat at Rotherham before goalless draws in their past two games, at home to Cardiff, when they did everything but score, and at Burton on Saturday when they played nearly 90-minutes with 10-men, defended valiantly and almost pinching a win late on.

Boro have also not enjoyed their trips to Vale Park of late, going winless in their past four visits, but did pick up eight points from the four prior to that.

They’ll have their work cut out to end that run tonight, Vale have kept nine clean sheets in their past 15 league games at home, conceding only eight goals.

  7. 'Brilliant time for Bradford'published at 19:37 British Summer Time 19 August

    Gary Jones
Former Bradford City captain on BBC Radio Leeds

It is a brilliant time for Bradford City at the moment, and they have had a great start to the season - they are full of confidence.

They have scored goals and created chances, whilst also defensively they have looked really strong.

I am excited to see them play, as what we have seen up to now has been absolutely fantastic.

  8. Bantams heading for Hatters testpublished at 19:35 British Summer Time 19 August

    Stockport v Bradford (19:45 BST)

It wouldn’t have taken much for these two sides to be playing two divisions apart this season, but tonight they meet as equals in a mouth-watering match-up.

After losing in last season’s play-offs, promotion is the aim for Dave Challinor’s Hatters and they set out their stall with wins over Bolton, Wycombe and were only denied victory at their play-off conquerors Leyton Orient on Saturday by a stoppage-time equaliser.

Bradford were promoted from League Two thanks to a 96th-minute winner from former County midfielder Antoni Sarcevic (pictured) on the final day of last season and have begun brightly this term, also beating Wycombe, drawing with Northampton and showing their class to beat Luton on Saturday to sit level on points with the division's other Hatters.

City haven’t beaten Stockport since 2011 but have lost on just two of their past 10 league visits to Edgeley Park and won the past three in a row.

This is a different County, however. They have won 10 of their past 11 home games, including the past six in succession, while the Bantams are winless in their past seven on the road, their longest run in five years.

  9. 'Walsall are no mugs'published at 19:34 British Summer Time 19 August

    Walsall v Grimsby (20:00 BST)

    Media caption,

David Artell chats to John Tondeur ahead of their trip to Walsall in League Two.

For many Walsall fans, their mind will still be on what could have been had the side not squandered a 12 point lead to eventually lose out in the play-off final.

It's a cloud that doesn't seem to have followed the squad, mind. The Saddlers have won two of their opening three games to see themselves in the top seven.

Today's visitors are off to an even better start though. Grimsby Town are undefeated across their opening games but boss David Artell is still wary of a side who reckons were only strengthened by last season's flounder.

"I'm sure Mat [Sadler, Walsall boss] would have learnt a lot of lessons from last year," Artell told BBC Radio Humberside.

"Ultimately, it ended in disappointment but if you are run away leaders in League Two, for a long time, you're no mugs.

"They've got better over the close season and it'll be a tough game. We got better over the close season and we've got better over the summer as well."

Newport are searching for a first home win since March, but there's a positive atmosphere as Salford visit Rodney Parade tonight.

The Exiles have made an encouraging start to life under new manager Dave Hughes, who has a win, a draw and a defeat from his first three League Two matches at the helm.

The former Manchester United academy boss got a rapturous welcome from the County fans as he made his way to the dugout.

  11. Will history repeat itself?published at 19:32 British Summer Time 19 August

    Gillingham v Chesterfield (19:45 BST)

Chesterfield will be thrilled with how their League Two campaign has kicked off. A winning start has put them on top of the table, joint with Crewe Alexandra on nine points with a plus five goal difference.

Normally, this would give fans massive confidence going into a game with a side who are middle of the pack - but there are old wounds between the Spireites and Gillingham.

Chesterfield were also joint league leaders in 1987 when they faced the Gills and ended up coming out the other end with a bruising 10-0 defeat.

It'll take something special for the hosts to deliver that kind of mauling again but any kind of victory is an upset Gillingham would love to celebrate.

  12. KICK-OFFpublished at 19:30 British Summer Time 19 August

    Newport 0-0 Salford

The evening's early game is under way in League Two at Rodney Parade as Newport take on Salford.

Can the Exiles end a winless home streak of six games or will the Ammies make it three league wins on the spin?

  13. 'Crewe are exciting but so are we'published at 19:26 British Summer Time 19 August

    Fleetwood v Crewe (19:45 BST)

Fleetwood Town head coach Pete Wild's thoughts on the remainder of the transfer window

Crewe Alexandra are revelling in a successful start to the season - the joint-most successful of any other League Two team, in fact. They've won all three of their league games to top the table alongside Chesterfield.

Fleetwood's start hasn't been too shabby either but they couldn't keep up their winning ways from their first two matches, having been held to a 2-2 draw with Bromley last time out.

However, Cod Army boss Pete Wild doesn't think the two point difference represents much of a gulf.

"[Crewe] are an exciting team to watch but I think we are an exciting team to watch," Wild told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"It's a clash of two really organised teams who I think will go bang at it. It'll be the team that imposes itself on the opposition is the one that will do well."

Sounds like it could be competitive - you like to hear it, how much would we love to see it.
