Hull secured a fourth win of the season

Birmingham City were beaten at home in the league for the first time since April 2024 after Hull City won at St Andrew's.

Jack Robinson's own goal put the Tigers ahead early in the first half before Jay Stansfield equalised.

Regan Slater's headed the visitors back in front just before the break and Robinson was sent off in the second half following a second yellow card.

Joe Gelhardt wrapped up the win in stoppage time, but there was still time for Stansfield to convert a penalty.

Hull took the lead on 11 minutes when Kyle Joseph, in from the start, met an Oli McBurnie through ball and saw his attempt helped in by Robinson.

It was a strong response from Birmingham, though.

They thought they should have had a penalty on 22 minutes when Keshi Anderson was brought down in the area, but the referee waved away the protests.

The home side kept going and got their reward five minutes later. Stansfield tapped home a rebound after Paik Seung-ho's shot was parried by Ivor Pandur.

With half-time looming, Hull took the lead through Slater's powerful header from the edge of the area, meeting Lewie Coyle's cross.

Once again, the Blues went in search of an equaliser and Pandur tipped an excellent Alex Cochrane effort from 30 yards over the bar 10 minutes after the restart.

But Robinson's afternoon went from bad to worse after he was dismissed following a second yellow card for dissent. Referee Ruebyn Ricardo gave a goal kick when Birmingham thought it should have been a corner, and the defender paid the price.

As the game went on, it became more stretched.

James Beadle kept Blues in the contest with a superb double save before the goalkeeper headed a corner over after going up late on.

But that allowed Hull to pull away. On the break, Liam Miller picked out Gelhardt, who added the finish.

Stansfield's penalty pulled one back after Lyndon Dykes was brought down in the area, but it was too late for Birmingham who are 17th with Hull up to 10th.

Loss was 'self-inflicted' - Davies - reaction

Birmingham City head coach Chris Davies told BBC WM:

"It's very disappointing to lose that match. We wanted more attacking impetus to try to create more chances and score more goals.

"I think we had a lot of that in the first half but we conceded two really sloppy goals and it felt like we were 2-1 down against the run of play. It puts you in a really difficult position.

"My main idea at half-time was to keep the back door shut but continue with our attacking play, knowing we would get more chances and hopefully get the two goals we needed.

"But a real lack of discipline has cost us, going down to 10 men. Then it becomes very difficult.

"We kept pushing, there's no lack of that, but it's not enough. It's self-inflicted today, through a lack of discipline."

Davies: 'Very disappointing'

Hull City head coach Sergej Jakirovic told BBC Radio Humberside:

"I'm very happy because of the boys. They fought and battled all 97 minutes.

"We didn't have control of the play, especially first half, and we could have finished this game earlier. We must play better with one player more.

"But OK, we are very happy. Two wins in a row. This is also an example of how this league is very difficult.

"Every week, there are surprise results and this is a big impact for us as we take the three points."
