You'd have to wind back the clock 14 years to find the last meeting between these two sides - a 4-1 win for Peterborough in the FA Cup in November 2010.

History would suggest this has been a fairly enjoyable fixture for the Posh who have won five of their past seven league games against Stockport.

But much has changed in that time and it's County who are pushing for promotion as things stand.

Dave Challinor's side have stuttered in recent weeks with two defeats in their past three but victory would strengthen their hold on a play-off spot.

Meanwhile, Peterborough ended a run of three straight defeats with a 4-3 win over Crawley on Saturday and could close the gap to the top six to just four points, depending on results elsewhere, if they come out on top.

  2. Crewe with chance of going second in League Twopublished at 19:39 Greenwich Mean Time 20 December

Crewe v Colchester United (19:45 GMT)

Crewe Alexandra have the opportunity of momentarily leapfrogging Port Vale into second place of League Two with a win over Colchester United tonight.

Lee Bell's side are coming off the back of a 2-0 win at Grimsby Town last Saturday which took the Railwaymen to 11 games unbeaten in the league - last tasting defeat in late September away at Newport County.

The Cheshire outfit are up against a Colchester side who have themselves hit a good run of form, however, with the U's unbeaten in their past eight in all competitions (W4 D4).

Danny Cowley's side have not conceded a goal in exactly 10 hours of football in all competitions, last having to pick the ball out of their own net to Bradford City's Andy Cook in the 1-1 home draw with the Bantams on 16 November.

  3. The Wanderers' promotion battlepublished at 19:38 Greenwich Mean Time 20 December

    Wycombe v Bolton (19:45 GMT)

Both Wycombe and Bolton share the Wanderers name and they also share the same ambition this season - promotion to the Championship.

It's going better for the Chairboys so far as they sit top of the pile but are just one point ahead of Birmingham City, who have a game in hand.

Matt Bloomfield's side are on a remarkable 17-game unbeaten run (W13 D4) since losing their first two games of the season and recovered from two consecutive draws to thrash Shrewsbury 4-1 last weekend.

Bolton have lost just three of their past 13 matches, although one of those came last time out in a disappointing 2-0 defeat at home to Wigan.

Victory for either tonight would do wonders in the race to go up.

League Two table before the games on 20 December

Crewe Alexandra have the opportunity to go four points clear of fourth-placed AFC Wimbledon tonight, albeit they will have played a game more than the Dons by the close of play.

They host Colchester United who arrive at Gresty Road on the back of a good run of form and a win for the U's would take them 11 points away from the League Two drop-zone after suffering a slow start to the season.

Gillingham have aspirations of promotion to the third-tier this season and a win tonight would take them sixth and into the play-off places.

Cheltenham Town stand in the way of the Gills at Priestfield tonight and Michael Duff's side would go into the top half of the table with a third win in a row in all competitions tonight in Kent.

League One table before the games on 20 December

Wycombe Wanderers can extend their lead at the top of League One to four points with victory tonight, albeit they will have played two games more than Birmingham City in second by the close of play.

They face Bolton Wanderers who have promotion aspirations of their own and victory would lift them up from eighth and into the play-off spots in sixth.

Stockport County will look to strengthen their grip on the race to go up while Peterborough United will be hoping they can close the gap on the top six.

Likewise, Huddersfield Town could put daylight between themselves and the chasing pack as they travel to Cambridge United who are four points adrift from safety.
