  1. 'So good so far' - Rogers on life under Tuchelpublished at 14:46 Greenwich Mean Time 25 March

    England

England midfielder Morgan Rogers spoke to BBC Radio 5 Live about what it's like playing under Thomas Tuchel:

"So good so far, the way he speaks with you and interacts with you is so nice. It's very much chilled and relaxed, you can be yourself around him, but when it's time to work it's time to work.

"We've had to take in a lot of information on board this week on his ideas of how he wants us to play and the structure of the team.

"I think we've done really well to take it onboard from the first game to the second game. We've just got to keep building and keep pushing."

    Morgan Rogers

    • How much did he play? Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers made his full England debut against Latvia. Having featured off the bench for the final 16 minutes against Albania, Rogers played the duration during Monday night's win.
    • What did he do? Having struggled to make an impact against Albania, Rogers improved against Latvia. Rogers had six shots against Latvia, completed seven of his eight attempted dribbles and won nine of his 13 attempted duels.
    • What does his England future look like? There is plenty of competition for the positions in England's team as wingers and attacking midfielders, with Phil Foden, Cole Palmer, Jarrod Bowen, Anthony Gordon, Morgan Gibbs-White and Eberechi Eze all battling alongside Rogers. To be in the squad and to get an early start under Thomas Tuchel will help his cause.
    • Alex Howell's average match rating vs Albania and Latvia: 7
    • Alex Howell's review: In both games, Rogers played in a deeper role than what is usually seen of him for Villa. Alex said "Tuchel looked to use his dribbling ability to progress the ball" and that Rogers "looked good and injected pace into England's play when the tempo slowed. Gives his manager a different option against teams who defend in a low block".
    • BBC Sport readers' average match rating vs Albania and Latvia: 5.82

The likes of Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden are playing with world-class players at their clubs so it's no wonder they get hyped up. But when playing for England they are not surrounded by world-class players and tend to get found out. There's only one true world-class player in the England squad and that is Harry Kane, I'm afraid.

    Jude Bellingham

    • How much did he play? Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham started in both of England's wins over Albania and Latvia, playing 90 minutes and 67 minutes respectively.
    • What did he do? Against Albania, Bellingham's superb through ball put teenager Myles Lewis-Skelly on goal for their opening goal. Bellingham won nine of his 11 duels against Albania, but missed two big chances. However, against Latvia he lost nine of his 11 duels and failed to hit the target with any of his six shots. Across the two games, Bellingham had pass accuracies of 92% and 93%.
    • What does his England future look like? Simply put, Jude Bellingham is the past, present and future of this England team. He now holds the record for most England caps at the age of 21 and expect to see England's team built around him for the next decade or so. Alongside Harry Kane, Declan Rice and Jordan Pickford for first names on the team sheet.
    • Alex Howell's average match rating vs Albania and Latvia: 6.5
    • Alex Howell's review: Against Albania, Alex said Bellingham "looked to make things happen" and called his assist "superb". Against Latvia, however, Alex said that Bellingham's performance in the win "wasn't his best night".

  5. Thumbs down for award-winner Fodenpublished at 14:30 Greenwich Mean Time 25 March

We know that was a triggering question about Phil Foden, and the thumbs down on his 'player review' post suggest the majority of you have been unimpressed by the Manchester City forward's performances for England against Albania and Latvia.

But the fact remains he scored 19 goals and weighed in with eight assists in the league for City last season, helping his team win the Premier League title while also claiming the PFA, Football Writers' and Premier League player of the season awards.

  6. Could Tuchel unlock Foden's potential?published at 14:19 Greenwich Mean Time 25 March

Phil Foden is an interesting one.

He is a player used to the high-press in Pep Guardiola's Manchester City side and has been successful in a wide position and as a 10, so should be a very useful player for any England manager hoping to adopt a similar system.

Yes, he faces stiff competition in Jude Bellingham, Cole Palmer and Morgan Gibbs-White for that number 10 spot in the England team, and has struggled to replicate his club form from wide positions at international level.

But if Thomas Tuchel can unlock his potential and find a role for Foden within his squad, would he not be an obvious weapon to unlock the defences of the best international sides?

You can definitely see what he's trying to do with the counter pressing for example. But overall, I wasn't expecting us to win these games 5-0 or 6-0 and we got the results. I don't think Foden and Rashford will be back for the next camp, especially with Saka nearing full fitness and also Palmer due to come back from injury.

    • What did he do? Against Albania, Foden won two of his three duels and made one tackle. In the win over Latvia, Foden provided the assist for Eberechi Eze's goal and across the two games, completed 54 of his 59 attempted passes.
    • What does his England future look like? In an England shirt, Phil Foden has shown flashes of his best but has often struggled to nail down his place. He finds himself towards the top of a competitive field that includes the likes of Jarrod Bowen, Marcus Rashford, Cole Palmer, Morgan Rodgers, Eze and Anthony Gordon for minutes.
    • Alex Howell's average match rating vs Albania and Latvia: 5.5
    • Alex Howell's review: Against Albania, Alex said Foden was "quiet", "found it hard" and that he "didn't show enough."

A largely uneventful two games, something about nothing and absolutely nothing to get excited about, sorry. Two wins fair enough. I really miss Premier League football and I think we should do a petition and ask for all boring international games to be played at the end & start of every season and then no games to disrupt my beloved Premier League football.

    • What did he do? Across his two cameos, Henderson completed 46 of his 49 attempted passes.
    • What does his England future look like? One of the most surprising selections in Thomas Tuchel's first England squad, Henderson's inclusion is one that sees him add experience to a largely young squad, and perhaps also highlights England's lack of sitting midfielders. Curtis Jones, Angel Gomes, Connor Gallagher, Kobbie Mainoo and Adam Wharton are among those he is competing with for regular minutes.
    • Alex Howell's average match rating vs Albania and Latvia: 6
    • Alex Howell's review: Against Albania, Alex said Henderson "marshalled the midfield" and that he "offered a calm presence" against Latvia.

  11. 'He wants high intensity, exciting football'published at 13:40 Greenwich Mean Time 25 March

    Izzy Christiansen
Former England midfielder on BBC's Football Daily

The body language and the information that Tuchel was saying to the players coming off was 'hurry up. Hurry up, get off the pitch, we want to make these changes.' He wanted to retain the intensity of the game.

He wants a transitional game of football, we saw that at Chelsea, we've seen it at Paris St. Germain and we've seen it at Bayern Munich. He wants high intensity, exciting football and he wants this England team to look like that and be like that and behave like that.

You can cut it to pieces and get to the nitty gritty as to why it didn't look like that tonight and the bottom line is you are not going to create a game like that against Latvia and for him in international football, he's probably going to learn the hard way that it isn't as exciting as club football until we get to major tournaments and things start to heat up.

    Declan Rice

    • How much did he play? Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice started in both matches, playing 82 minutes against Albania and 79 minutes against Latvia.
    • What did he do? Rice is better known for his defensive work, but provided assists for Harry Kane's two goals in as many games.
    • What does his England future look like? Rice, as proved in these two games, is among the first names on England's team sheets. Competition in midfield is only likely to be to compliment him and Jude Bellingham, rather than challenge them.
    • Alex Howell's average match rating vs Albania and Latvia: 7
    • Alex Howell's review: Alex described Rice's assist against Albania as a "clever pass" and that he "kept the ball moving." Alex added that against Latvia, Rice had "a solid night" and he "positioned himself well as England's only defensive midfielder."
    • BBC Sport readers' average match rating vs Albania and Latvia: 6.41

I think excitement is completely the wrong term. When has international football outside of the actual tournaments ever been exciting? I think competency is more appropriate. Good couple of wins and clean sheets after a couple of months in charge. Job done for now.

    Curtis Jones

    • How much did he play? Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones started in the win over Albania, playing 74 minutes against Albania. He also featured off the bench for the final 11 minutes against Latvia.
    • What did he do? Curtis Jones ranked joint-second among England's players for defensive actions and created one chance against Albania.
    • What does his England future look like? Starting as one of two sitting midfielders against Declan Rice, Curtis Jones had the chance to impress, but could have played better and was among four players to be changed for the Latvia game. A midfield place alongside Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham remains up for grabs, as it has done for same time.
    • Alex Howell's average match rating vs Albania and Latvia: 6
    • Alex Howell's review: On Jones' display against Albania, Alex said Jones "showed, in flashes, why he has been a key part of Liverpool's midfield this season. Linked the play well and looked to get into the box when he could." However, Alex added Jones had "a quiet second half before being replaced."

  18. James has been a 'big winner'published at 12:51 Greenwich Mean Time 25 March

    John Murray
BBC Radio 5 Live chief football correspondent

Reece James has been a big winner. The Chelsea captain returning to the international fold under the manager who knows him well from Stamford Bridge. Last night was his first start for England for two and a half years and he scored a goal that he could only have dreamed of when he was making his first steps in the game at Kew Park Rangers.

The 18-year-old Myles Lewis-Skelly of Arsenal has clearly not done himself any harm replicating the kind of performances he’s put in for his club in his first months in the big time, and scoring his first goal.

And likewise, Eberechi Eze got himself off the mark at senior international level after coming on as a substitute against the Latvians.

As for Marcus Rashford, playing for England again for the first time for a year and starting both matches; clearly he will have wanted more end product but Tuchel’s hope will be that this helps in the process of Rashford returning to somewhere close to his best form.

    • How much did he play? Chelsea captain Reece James featured as a late substitute against Albania, but did play the duration of the win against Latvia.
    • What did he do? Against Latvia, James scored a stunning free-kick in the first half to put England ahead. He also ranked second for defensive actions from English players and completed 96 of his 97 attempted passes.
    • What does his England future look like? Right-back is an area full of competition, but a pleasing start, goal and clean sheet against Latvia will help his cause, as well as his pre-existing relationship with Thomas Tuchel from when they worked together at Chelsea. Kyle Walker, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Tino Livramento all provide competition.
    • Alex Howell's average match rating vs Albania and Latvia: 8 (no rating vs Albania)
    • Alex Howell's review: Alex described James' free-kick as being of the "highest quality." Alex also praised his attacking qualities, adding "that if he can stay fit he can be a real asset for the Three Lions."
