Napoli have agreed a fee in the region of 30m euros (£25.4m) with Manchester United for midfielder Scott McTominay.

Although personal terms are still to be agreed and McTominay is yet to agree to the move to the Italian Serie A side, it is the second successive year United have shown a willingness to sell the academy graduate.

Earlier in August, United rejected a £20m bid from Fulham for the Scotland international.

Last season, 27-year-old McTominay turned down the chance to join West Ham and ended up making 32 Premier League appearances and scoring seven goals for United. He also started the FA Cup final victory against Manchester City.

This term, he has been used as a substitute in both Premier League games.

Manager Erik ten Hag still wants to strengthen his squad and knows McTominay's status as a homegrown player creates more flexibility within the Premier League's financial rules.

United have a keen interest in Paris St-Germain's Uruguay international Manuel Ugarte but so far have been unable to reach a deal with the French club.

Here's what Newcastle boss Eddie Howe had to say to BBC Match of the Day about Bournemouth's disallowed goal in stoppage time.

"I thought the game was lost because, initially, I hadn't seen anything wrong with the goal.

"We have had it both ways. We have had it for us and against us. We are very grateful for that moment because we have battled hard today. What we had at that stage of the game was a valuable point, but I understand that it is a contentious decision.

"I think a draw was fair, but Bournemouth may have a different perspective. They did cause us problems with their quick attacks and, while I think we had more chances to score more than one goal, I think they would probably argue the same. With that, I think a draw was fair."

  6. VAR controversy on the south coastpublished at 10:08 British Summer Time 26 August

    Bournemouth 1-1 Newcastle

    Bournemouth

It didn't take long for VAR to become a talking point again as Bournemouth felt as though they should have taken all three points from the 1-1 draw with Newcastle on Sunday.

Dango Ouattara's 93rd-minute goal was ruled out for handball even though the ball appeared to strike the shoulder.

Andoni Iraola spoke of his frustrations post-match: "It's the most frustrated I've been on a touchline."

The points were shared on the south coast as Newcastle came from behind against Bournemouth yesterday.

Marcus Tavernier opened the scoring close to half-time but Anthony Gordon drew the Magpies level in the 77th minute.

Substitute Dango Ouattara thought he'd won the points for the Cherries in stoppage but VAR intervened and controversially ruled the goal out for handball.

  8. Busy week ahead at Man Utdpublished at 10:01 British Summer Time 26 August

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter

It promises to be a busy week at Manchester United.

United are hoping to make further reinforcements to Erik ten Hag's squad but they do need to sell players as well.

Jadon Sancho and Scott McTominay have been the subject of interest from Juventus and Napoli and United are willing to sell both players.

The key point is can a deal be done.

In Sancho's case, it is a matter of finding a way to meet his salary, which is huge, for McTominay it is whether the Scotland midfielder wants to sever ties with his boyhood club.

Napoli have had a bid for the latter accepted, whilst reports about Chelsea interest in Sancho raise the potential for any number of players moving north from Stamford Bridge - if United were interested in them of course.

  9. Plymouth hopeful of keeping Whittakerpublished at 09:58 British Summer Time 26 August

    Nick Mashiter
    BBC Sport football news reporter

Plymouth are hopeful of keeping star forward Morgan Whittaker beyond Friday's transfer deadline.

The Pilgrims have rejected two bids from Rangers this summer - the second worth an initial £4m plus £3m in add-ons - while Ligue 1 Rennes have also had an offer knocked back.

Lazio were keen on the 21-year-old in January while fellow Serie A side Parma have shown an interest this window, although BBC Sport understands Whittaker wants to stay in the UK.

He is likely to cost £8m-10m after last season's impressive form where he scored 20 times in 50 appearances in all competitions.

His 19 league goals kept Plymouth in the Championship as they finished 21st, a point above the relegation zone.

The winger, who started his career at Derby, signed from Swansea last summer and opened his account for the season with a 25-yard strike in Saturday's 1-1 draw at QPR.

Plymouth, who appointed Wayne Rooney as manager in May, remain relaxed about the situation with their asking price yet to be met.

  10. Brighton forward Ferguson closing in on returnpublished at 09:56 British Summer Time 26 August

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter

It has been a frustrating 12 months for Brighton striker Evan Ferguson.

This time last year, Ferguson was looking to build on a hugely impressive breakthrough season that saw him identified as one of the most promising young forwards in the game.

However, after scoring a hat-trick against Newcastle on 2 September, the 19-year-old found the net just twice more for his club and ended the campaign on the treatment table after suffering an ankle injury he has only just recovered from.

Ferguson is yet to feature this season but looks certain to be involved in tomorrow's EFL Cup tie with Crawley.

"Evan came back after a long injury and we have to be very careful with him," said Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler.

"Young players want to be on the pitch as quickly as possible but we have to take it step by step.

"He has started training with the team and already we have seen why he is here.

"He has great ability and great skills for a striker."

  11. West Ham sign Pavipublished at 09:50 British Summer Time 26 August

West Ham have signed Colombia international Manuela Pavi on a three year deal - subject to a work permit.

The 23-year-old forward joins from Deportivo Cali where she helped them win the Colombian top flight in 2021 and 2024.

Pavi told West Ham TV: “When my agent told me there was a possibility to join West Ham, I felt super excited because I come from a place in Colombia that is very similar to east London - where the people are from humble beginnings and are working class.

"That is why I know I was born to be a Hammer. I will fight for this Club and give my everything for the famous claret and blue.

“The fans can expect to have an extension of themselves on the pitch."

She becomes Rehanne Skinner’s sixth signing of the summer transfer window.

    Fabian HurzelerImage source, Getty Images

Forwards - Cole Palmer (Chelsea): What more do you need to say about him? Probably the best number 10 at the moment. He is so calm, so cool. In all the madness going on at Chelsea, they all just look at him and give him the ball. He just demands their respect.

Erling Haaland (Manchester City): He plays again and scores three again. I think it is something like every nine-and-a-half games he gets a hat-trick. Just a monster of a man. He enjoys finishing and enjoys scoring goals.

Joao Pedro (Brighton): Former Watford guy, he scored a lot of goals there and I thought he played well. His goal capped a really good game, but he linked the play well, doing a lot of things behind the ball that a lot of people would not see.

Manager - Fabian Hurzeler (Brighton):Youngest manager in the Premier League and beating Manchester United on your home debut, it doesn't get much better than that.

Troy Deeney chooses his team of the week on MOTD2

Midfielders - Noni Madueke (Chelsea): Everything he did was positive moving forward, and obviously the hat-trick always helps, but he could have had five or six on another day.

Kevin de Bruyne (Manchester City): There are not enough words. He is just the best player. He is the best midfielder in his position and he was unbelievable again, he got Manchester City going against Ipswich. It looks like he is enjoying himself as well, with a lot of talk of him moving.

Emile Smith Rowe (Fulham): I really enjoyed the way he played. It looks like he played with a freedom and it looks like he is growing into the game as Fulham's main man, which he obviously wanted to be at Arsenal. He scored a really good goal but created problems all day.

Son Heung-min (Tottenham): Best player on the pitch by a mile. He started through the middle and moved out to the left, got a couple of goals. He was a constant threat and looks to be enjoying the challenge of being that main man and replacing all the goals from Harry Kane.

  15. Who was 'unbelievable again'? Troy Deeney's team of the weekpublished at 09:23 British Summer Time 26 August

    Troy Deeney TOTW banner

Goalkeeper - David Raya (Arsenal): He made some unbelievable saves. The rebound save from Ollie Watkins, after Aston Villa hit the bar, changed the game in Arsenal's favour.

Defenders - Cristian Romero (Tottenham): Romero got the goal from the corner but he was also a force. He dealt with Everton's aerial threat every time.

Max Kilman (West Ham): He was a monster for West Ham. They were under a lot of pressure. He was like a young Rio [Ferdinand] the way he stepped out and played the ball that sent Jarrod Bowen away to score.

Micky van de Ven (Tottenham): He got an assist. Great play and dealt with everything Everton threw at Tottenham, and then that surging run [for Son Heung-min's second goal] showed his quality.

Take a look at who Troy Deeney has selected in his team of the week. Any surprises in there for you or has someone been left out who deserved a place?

It comes as no surprise that Arsenal's David Raya has been selected in goal after making some exceptional saves in the win over Aston Villa.

"He made some unbelievable saves. The rebound save from Ollie Watkins, after Aston Villa hit the bar, changed the game in Arsenal's favour."

Chelsea's Noni Madueke "could have had five or six on another day" but he had to settle for the hat-trick.

    Wolves 2-6 Chelsea

    Chelsea

What a way to get your first win as Chelsea boss in the Premier League. Will Enzo Maresca's side now build on this or will the inconsistency of last season be seen again?

Chelsea boss Maresca has been speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "In the second half, we changed something and it was better. I thought the intention in the first half was good, but we lost four or five easy balls from set-pieces and counter-attacks.

"The second half was completely different. We didn't lose any balls and we were in control of the game. The tactical plan in the second half was the same, but we were a bit more accurate and didn't give away any easy balls."
