Noni Madueke was given the freedom of Wolverhampton, just hours after insulting the city.

Madueke, 22, shared his location as Wolverhampton in the post but quickly deleted it and used his post-match interview to apologise.

The England Under-21 international said: "I just want to apologise to everyone that I might have offended. It is just a human mistake, an accident. It wasn't meant to be out on my socials like that. I'm sure Wolverhampton is a nice town and I'm sorry.

"It was a mistake and you learn from those things. Hopefully nothing like that happens again.

"In terms of the boos, I expected it but it is part of the game. You have to be able to play under that sort of pressure."

    Problems at Chelsea? What problems?

Enzo Maresca's side put last week's 2-0 defeat at home to champions Man City behind them with a brilliant 6-2 win away at Wolves yesterday.

Newly-crowned PFA Young Player of the Year Cole Palmer scored once and registered three assists as Noni Madueke scored a hat-trick.

  3. Van Dijk 'calm' about his Liverpool futurepublished at 08:37 British Summer Time 26 August

Despite opening the season with two wins, there is an air of uncertainty at Liverpool with Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk all into the final year of their contracts. As things stand, they will leave Anfield at the end of the season.

Reds skipper Van Dijk spoke to Sky Sports about his future: "I am very calm. The thing is: I want to play the best season I can. I want to be important and stay important for the club, then we will see. Everything happens for a reason but, for now, there have been no changes in my situation.

"I am very calm about it and there is no reason for me to start thinking about something else. I have a whole season left to play.

"I am proud and [Anfield] is home. It is a special place and, what I said before, whatever happens in the future, Anfield is a special place in my heart. Let's see what the season brings.

"I am not playing football to lose or not become successful. It is not guaranteed, but I want to win. We know how difficult that is but playing for Liverpool, one of, if not the best clubs in the world - there are expectations.

"I'm really enjoying it so far [under Arne Slot] and there is still so much to improve. Let's see what this season brings."

After a poor Saturday for my Fantasy Premier League team, goals from my captain Mohamed Salah and Anthony Gordon earned back a bit of respect for me.

Thumbs up if you triple captained Erling Haaland.

"From Bergentheim to Anfield, we got your back Arne," read the banner fans held aloft - referencing Arne Slot's birthplace - as he walked out of the tunnel for his first Liverpool Premier League home game in charge.

By the end, the Dutchman was on the pitch giving a thumbs up and waving as supporters gave him and his team a standing ovation following a 2-0 win over Brentford.

No fist pumps. No running around in excitement.

The post-Jurgen Klopp era at Anfield started in understated fashion.

"This support is not something we take for granted," said Slot, who had headed straight for the tunnel after his first league game against Ipswich.

  8. Fantasy Premier League failspublished at 07:54 British Summer Time 26 August

How did everyone get on with their Fantasy Premier League team this week? Have to admit I made a huge mistake by transferring Chelsea's Cole Palmer for Man City's Phil Foden.

Obviously that then meant Palmer would score and assist three while Foden was sitting at home with an illness.

The Guardian's back pages touch on Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold's reaction to being substituted in their win over Brentford on Sunday evening.

Alexander-Arnold was seen looking rather unimpressed with Arne Slot on the bench and, of course, speculation will be rife given he's in the final year of his contract.

It's no shock to see Chelsea linked with another player but it may come as a shock to see that player is Man United's Jadon Sancho!

Sancho is yet to feature for United this season and is tipped to move away from Old Trafford before the window closes on Friday.
