Emmanuel Longelo was one of two new signings to score for Motherwell

Motherwell avoided a scare in the Premier Sports Cup group stage to come from behind to defeat Peterhead with a 91st-minute winner at Fir Park.

After a mix-up at the back between the defence and debutant goalkeeper Matty Connelly, Jack Brown was able to put last season's League Two champions ahead.

Left-back Emmanuel Longelo was able to draw his side level with a fine-strike just before the half-hour mark, but it wasn't until almost the final minute that Motherwell found their winner.

That was despite plenty of possession and pressure, but a sturdy Peterhead defence created a tense atmosphere as new Motherwell boss Jens Berthel Askou searched for his first win in charge.

It was another new signing, Lukas Fadinger, that came up with the goods. A brilliant outside-of-the-foot cross from Callum Slattery set up the Austrian midfielder, who glanced his header past the keeper.

Having drawn with Clyde at the weekend, Motherwell are second in Group G after Morton's 3-0 win over Stenhousemuir.
