Aston Villa boss Natalia Arroyo admits her side must not lose against Crystal Palace on Sunday if they want to avoid a relegation fight.

Villa haven't won a league match since December and find themselves just four points above Palace, who occupy the relegation zone.

"We are facing this game with this ambition [must not lose], we want to win, we need the three points," Arroyo said.

"It is important for us to make the gap a little bit bigger so that we can continue our processes and grow as a team without the pressure of being close to them."

Villa have lost all three of their Women's Super League games without registering a goal since Arroyo took charge but she is confident they can break that run against Palace if they keep "believing".

"It has to do with the way we are creating chances, but also the quality and ability to score big chances. [We must] keep trying and trust that the ball will go into the net at some point, believing in ourselves. We have goals in the squad," she said.

  2. Chelsea keep quadruple alive with Women's League Cup winpublished at 13:45 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March

Chelsea edged past Manchester City in the Women's League Cup final to win their first trophy under Sonia Bompastor and keep their bid for a historic quadruple alive.

Bompastor has exceeded expectations since succeeding Emma Hayes as head coach last May, winning 26 of her 28 games.

Mayra Ramirez netted an early opener for Chelsea, bundling in a rebound that bounced off City skipper Laia Aleixandri at Derby County's Pride Park.

Aoba Fujino levelled after the break with a stunning strike, but an own goal by Yui Hasegawa restored Chelsea's lead and ended their three-year losing streak in League Cup finals.

  3. How is the relegation battle shaping up?published at 13:37 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March

Crystal Palace v Aston Villa (14:00 GMT)

It's all to play for at the VBS Community Stadium with both Aston Villa and Crystal Palace in the grips of a relegation battle.

Victory for Aston Villa would see them move seven points clear of the relegation zone but a win for Crystal Palace would close the gap to one point with six matches remaining.

Neither side has any form heading into this fixture.

Aston Villa have lost their past four matches, are without a league win since December, and still have to play Manchester United, an in-form Liverpool, and Arsenal before the end of the season.

Crystal Palace's only league win came back in October and they have the worst defence (39 goals conceded) and second-worst attack (12 goals scored) in the WSL. Their remaining fixtures include a home clash with Arsenal and away trips to Chelsea and Manchester City.
