  1. Idah signing to be part of busy day at Swanseapublished at 11:49 British Summer Time 1 September

    Gareth Vincent
    BBC Sport Wales

Swansea City are poised to complete deadline-day deals for Celtic striker Adam Idah and Strasbourg left-back Ishe Samuels-Smith, but Zan Vipotnik is set to stay at the Championship club.

Swansea are waiting for Celtic to finalise the Idah deal, which is worth an initial £6m, while Samuels-Smith is heading to Wales barely a month after leaving Chelsea for Strasbourg.

The Swans are also hoping to sign a winger today.

There had been strong suggestions that Idah's arrival would see Vipotnik depart, but the Slovenia international is now expected to stay having just produced his best run of form since signing for Swansea in 2024.

Ollie Cooper is likely to leave Swansea today, though, with the Wales midfielder tipped to join Wigan on loan.

  2. What time does the transfer window close?published at 11:48 British Summer Time 1 September

One quirk about this iteration of transfer deadline day is that the window closes at 19:00 BST for the Premier League, EFL, Bundesliga, Ligue 1 and Serie A.

A much more civilised hour, I think you will agree.

In Scotland and Spain the deadline is 23:00.

Speaking on behalf of the early team who started here at 06:00 and will be back again to recap it all at 06:00 on Tuesday, I know which closing time I prefer.

  4. Wrexham to continue spending spree with Sheaf signing and Kabore loanpublished at 11:43 British Summer Time 1 September

Wrexham are set to sign Coventry City midfielder Ben Sheaf in another statement of intent from the Championship newcomers.

The Hollywood-owned Welsh club have already spent more money than any other side in the second tier this summer and are now expected to pay in the region of £6.5m for Sheaf.

The 27-year-old played an integral role in Coventry's run to the FA Cup semi-finals in 2024 and was rated among the Championship's best midfielders as he helped his side reach the play-offs last season.

But a combination of injuries, the signing of Matt Grimes from Swansea City in January and the emergence of Victor Torp, have seen Sheaf fall down the pecking order under Frank Lampard.

Sheaf is close to becoming Wrexham's 11th signing of the summer, and Manchester City defender Issa Kabore looks like he will be the next on a season-long loan.

The 24-year-old Burkina Faso international spent last season on loan at Benfica in Portugal and then German side Werder Bremen.

Kabore, who operates primarily as a right-back or right wing-back, has previously had loan spells at Marseille and Luton Town, during their 2023-24 campaign in the Premier League.

Portsmouth are getting closer to completing a permanent deal for Crystal Palace U21 forward Franco Umeh.

One source who has spoken to BBC Sport suggests the fee could be around £500,000.

Umeh has been on the bench for Oliver Glaser’s side on a few occasions but has not made a senior appearance for the club.

The 20-year-old joined Crystal Palace from Cork City in 2023 and has represented the Republic of Ireland at youth level.

This Jackson saga is farcical from Chelsea. By no means the perfect striker, he is a solid source of goals and to cast him aside in favour of a Delap who remains unproven and now injured has illuminated some really poor asset management from Chelsea.

Aaron Ramsey could be departing Burnley and heading to Leicester City on loan before the window shuts this evening.

The 22-year-old has only played one game for the Clarets this season, scoring in the Carabao Cup second round win over Derby.

Leicester sources have confirmed to BBC Sport there is interest in signing the former Aston Villa player, while Burnley sources suggest a deal is close.

Ramsey's departure would come after Burnley agreed a deal to sign midfielder Florentino Luis from Benfica.

Coventry are close to signing Ipswich defender Luke Woolfenden.

The 26-year-old is en route to the Midlands for a medical after the Championship clubs agreed a permanent deal.

Woolfenden was left out of Ipswich's 2-2 draw with Derby on Saturday and has only featured in their EFL Cup penalty defeat to Bromley this season.

He has made 215 appearances for the Tractor Boys after coming through the academy in Suffolk.

Coventry have had a number of bids rejected by Hull for centre-back Charlie Hughes with the Tigers adamant they will not sell the 21-year-old.

  12. 'Isak signing underlines Liverpool's mindset'published at 11:31 British Summer Time 1 September

    Ian Kennedy
    Reporter, BBC Radio Merseyside Sport

Once completed, the signing of Alexander Isak underlines Liverpool’s mindset as a club. Champions yes, but not standing still.

If Liverpool want to dominate the domestic scene for the next few years, they will need world-class players, and that’s what they’ve gone out and got this summer, spending over £400million in the process.

That is quite a statement of intent. They won the title last season comfortably but Arne Slot and Richard Hughes have identified the areas that needed strengthening, and have strengthened them.

Isak is world class and - on paper - this now looks a formidable squad.

It may take a while to gel as a team, but in the meantime, Liverpool have nine points out of nine already. And that’s without Isak!

A few young Liverpool supporters are gathered outside the club's training ground hoping for a glimpse of the club's new record signing, Alexander Isak.

We believe the Swede is already in the building having arrived in a blacked-out Mercedes van.

With a medical to complete and final documents to be signed, it may well still be some time before the move is formally announced.

The 20-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Cardiff, making 15 appearances as the Bluebirds were relegated from the Championship.

He has made six appearances for the Foxes - including playing in their EFL Cup penalty shoot-out defeat to Huddersfield last month.

  16. 'Building a new and successful team with this set-up is not feasible'published at 11:24 British Summer Time 1 September

    Bayer Leverkusen

OK, back to Erik ten Hag's unceremonious sacking by Bayer Leverkusen.

The 2023-24 Bundesliga champions initially broke the news via a one-line statement on X.

Since then, they have added a couple more quotes on the club website - and they are scathing.

Simon Rolfes, managing director sport: “This decision was not an easy one for us. Nobody wanted to take this step. However, the past few weeks have shown that building a new and successful team with this setup is not feasible. We firmly believe in the quality of our team and will now do everything we can to take the next steps in our development with a new setup.”

Fernando Carro, CEO: “A parting of ways at this early stage of the season is painful, but we felt it was necessary. We remain committed to achieving our goals for the season – and to do that, we need the best possible conditions at all levels and across the entire first team. Now it's a matter of fully implementing and utilising these conditions again.”

Newcastle have agreed a deal worth £55m for Brentford forward Yoane Wissa, a day after he urged the Bees to "keep their word" and let him leave.

The deal is an initial £50m plus £5m in add-ons and the DR Congo international is on his way to Newcastle to complete the formalities of the deal.

It comes after Liverpool agreed a British transfer record fee of £125m to sign Newcastle striker Alexander Isak.

Magpies boss Eddie Howe is desperate to strengthen his forward line, despite completing the club record £69m signing of striker Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart on a six-year contract last week.

Wissa, 28, issued a statement on Sunday publicly confirming he wanted to leave and accusing Brentford of "unduly standing in his way" of a move to Newcastle.

Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson is expected to join Bayern Munich in the on-off saga that has been his transfer.

The Blues official position remains that he is to return to Stamford Bridge but the recall of Sunderland striker Marc Guiu from his loan spell has re-opened a window to negotiate.

That agreement could pave the way for Jackson to join but the Blues are likely to demand improved terms on the initial £13m loan with an option to buy for £56.2m agreed on Saturday morning.
