  5. Newcastle's need for second striker clearpublished at 10:14 British Summer Time 1 September

    Ciaran Kelly

Newcastle United have already broken their transfer record to sign striker Nick Woltemade.

But the club desperately need another centre-forward to help share the burden on the new arrival, who has never played outside of Germany.

It has, therefore, been far from a coincidence that Newcastle have targeted a goalscorer with Premier League experience.

Although Newcastle have had multiple bids rejected by Brentford this summer, it is rather telling that they have not given up on Yoane Wissa.

After all, no one scored more non-penalty goals (19) in the top-flight last season.

Wissa’s instincts in the box as well as his fitness record and ability to plug in make him an attractive proposition for Newcastle, who only had one player hit double figures last season.

That man was, of course, Alexander Isak, who is set to complete a British-record transfer to Liverpool.

Bournemouth's new signing Alex Jimenez speaking to the club's website: "I’m very happy. I'm excited about this project and that they've welcomed me so well. I can't wait to start training with the team and playing with the team.

"It has always been one of my dreams to play in the Premier League and as long as I can fulfil a dream, I will be happy."

Everyone has been talking about Alexander Isak but the Yoane Wissa situation has been even worse.

I know that he has been training, but that feels like someone told him to do that and stay integrated in case the deal doesn't happen.

I felt like Brentford would stay strong because where can they get a replacement from at the last minute?

The right-sided full-back/wing-back made 122 appearances for the Seagulls, scoring five goals and contributing 12 assists.

  9. Wissa asks Brentford to 'keep word' & allow Newcastle movepublished at 10:05 British Summer Time 1 September

    Yoane WissaImage source, Getty Images

On Sunday, striker Yoane Wissa called on Brentford to "keep their word" and let him leave before the transfer deadline, accusing the club of "unduly standing in his way" of a move to Newcastle United.

With two days of the transfer window remaining, the DR Congo international was furious the west London club were refusing to sell him to Newcastle, who have already had two offers rejected - the latest being £35m guaranteed, plus a further £5m in add-ons.

In a statement on social media on, Wissa said he had "repeated promises" from the club he could leave this summer if they received a "reasonable offer" and says he has this "in writing".

He added that Brentford have "significantly changed its position, going against what was communicated" and is now publicly asking to go, adding that being made to stay will "tarnish" his four years at the club.

Wissa has made clear he wants to leave for St James' Park and has not been training or playing with the first team this season.

According to sources, Brentford originally wanted £40m for Wissa but the price has now increased to about £65m.

Newcastle have reopened talks with Brentford over a deal for forward Yoane Wissa.

Brentford have already rejected two offers for 28-year-old Wissa – the latest being a bid worth up to £40m.

But with Alexander Isak on his way to Liverpool, the St James’ Park side are redoubling their efforts this morning to land Wissa, who issued a statement on Sunday publicly confirming his desire to leave for Newcastle.

There is some hope now that an agreement is achievable.

Everton are still hoping to secure new signings after an impressive start to the season with two wins from three games, highlighted by the form of summer arrivals Jack Grealish and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

David Moyes has been searching for a right-back all summer after losing out on a deal for Fulham's Kenny Tete but first off the block looks to be Freiburg midfielder Merlin Rohl, who they hope to sign in a £20m deal today.

Everton are then likely to push for a defender but it remains to be seen if they can get it done in time.

Former Burnley captain Josh Brownhill is an option for Vitor Pereira and Wolves, with the midfielder available on a free after leaving Burnley in the summer.

Wolves, who can only sign homegrown players having used up their quota for non-homegrown, have held talks with the 29-year-old.

Brownhill scored 18 times last season to help Burnley back into the Premier League.

Wolves are bottom of the Premier League, yet to register a point, with Saturday's 3-2 loss at home to Everton their third defeat in as many games.

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport Chief Football News Reporter

Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo seems unlikely to get his desired loan move before the transfer window closes later today.

Mainoo wants the opportunity to spend the season away from Old Trafford as he fears his time on the pitch will be limited after head coach Ruben Amorim said he was in competition for a start with captain Bruno Fernandes.

The 20-year-old is eager to maximise his chances of making Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad after starring on England’s run to the Euro 2024 final.

Amorim said on Friday he wanted Mainoo to stay at Old Trafford and those views have only strengthened since Saturday, when both Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount suffered injuries.

While the extent of the respective problems is not known, given both play in attacking roles, even sources close to Mainoo understand the potential for a deal is slim.

Numerous clubs are interested in Mainoo, with a switch to Serie A thought to be the easiest to complete at this late stage in the window.

Bournemouth are expected to complete a loan with obligation deal to buy for AC Milan's versatile full-back Alex Jimenez.

The 20-year-old would have to make 18 starts in the Premier League to see his initially temporary move turn into a permanent transfer.

Jimenez can play in multiple positions - as a wing-back or as a winger on either the left or right side.

The Spain youth international is a product of Real Madrid's academy and has played 34 times for Milan.

The Cherries are also in the market to add a central defender, but are believed to have moved on from targeting Chelsea's Axel Disasi.

Arsenal have been busy and aggressive in this market and have completed seven signings with an eighth, in Piero Hincapie, getting closer after the Gunners reached an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen.

Arsenal have always said that they are actively looking at the market but today seems to be a focus on outgoings.

There is interest in Jakub Kiwior, Fabio Vieira and Albert Sambi Lokonga. The Gunners would also let Oleksandr Zinchenko and Leandro Trossard go if there were suitable offers.

Former Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy is set to complete a move to Serie A club Cremonese.

The 38-year-old is likely to sign a one-year contract with a further year on offer should the newly promoted club avoid relegation.

The former England forward flew out to Italy on Sunday and is due to complete a medical today [Monday].

Sources at Dutch club Feyenoord have expressed disappointment to miss out on Vardy, with Cremonese confident of completing a deal.

Vardy, who joined Leicester in 2012, has been without a club since his contract at the King Power Stadium expired in June.

Vardy scored 200 goals in 500 games for the club and won the FA Cup in 2021, while he also scored seven goals in 26 England appearances.

Cremonese have won both of their opening Serie A matches, against Sassuolo and AC Milan, having returned to the Italian top flight this summer.

  20. Will Palace lose leader Guehi?published at 09:36 British Summer Time 1 September

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish looks in an almost impossible position here, with negotiations ongoing with Liverpool about a deal to sell captain and England defender Marc Guehi.

Parish faces the possibility of losing the highly prized Guehi at the end of his contract next summer, so all signs point towards a deal being done with Liverpool before the transfer window closes. Talks have already been held, and this is one that should get done.

Tottenham Hotspur would have loved to sign Guehi, but his heart is set on a move to Anfield.

Manager Oliver Glasner insisted Guehi would have to stay in the absence of ready-made replacements, but Palace are now in the market.

Talks for Toulouse's highly rated Jaydee Canvot, 19, are at an advanced stage. Palace have also made an approach for Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji, but the Switzerland international is said to have reservations about the switch.

Sporting defender Ousmane Diomande has been Palace's first-choice target, but so far they have been unable to afford the Ivory Coast international, while Roma's Evan Ndicka is another defender Palace are understood to have interest in.

If Palace can bring quality in, the deal to take Guehi to Liverpool will be unlocked.
