Chelsea are in talks to recall striker Marc Guiu from his Sunderland loan spell amid uncertainty around the future of Nicolas Jackson and an injury to Liam Delap.

The Blues previously agreed for Jackson, 24, to have a medical at Bayern Munich for an initial £13m loan move, but opted to withdraw from the agreement, which also included a £56.2m option to buy, after Delap sustained a hamstring injury in Saturday's 2-0 win over Fulham.

Jackson was asked to return to London but Bayern were also given the option of agreeing a permanent deal instead.

Funds from a sale were to be used on a replacement, with Sporting striker Conrad Harder identified as the primary target, but he had already been in advanced talks with RB Leipzig and is expected to move there as new Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko's replacement.

It's a puzzling picture at Stamford Bridge but Guiu is expected to return and Jackson to find a permanent move away from the club.

    Bayer Leverkusen

Right, here is that very short statement from Bayer Leverkusen on X announcing the departure of former Manchester United and Ajax boss Erik ten Hag.

It read: "Bayer 04 Leverkusen has parted ways with head coach Erik ten Hag with immediate effect. Training will be taken over by the assistant coaching staff for the time being."

  3. Fenerbahce agree £12m Ederson dealpublished at 11:05 British Summer Time 1 September

    Shamoon Hafez
    Manchester City reporter

Fenerbahce have agreed a 14m euro (£12.1m) deal to sign Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson, who has been City number one since 2017.

The 32-year-old changed the face of goalkeeping in the Premier League and has won six top-flight titles, the Champions League and FA Cup after joining from Benfica for £35m, but has not featured this season.

The Gianluigi Donnarumma and Ederson transfers are both contingent on each deal happening - Donnarumma is expected to join but would not do so if Ederson does not agree to go to Turkey.

This happened a little earlier this morning, Cardiff City have confirmed the signing of attacking midfielder Omari Kellyman on a season-long deal from Chelsea.

The 19-year-old moved to Stamford Bridge last year from Aston Villa for a reported £19m fee but has yet to make a first-team appearance having struggled with persistent hamstring injuries.

He becomes the Bluebirds third signing of the summer window, following the recruits of goalkeeper Nathan Trott and defender Gabriel Osho in South Wales.

Under new boss Brian Barry-Murphy, Cardiff have made a strong start to the season and currently sit top of League One following five wins and a draw from their opening six matches.

I think Donnarumma to Man City is huge. He is a great keeper who could give City a real advantage for the title. Have to spare a thought for James Trafford, a really good young keeper who is going spend his career on the bench.

  9. Donnarumma arrival opens way for Ederson departurepublished at 10:43 British Summer Time 1 September

Remember, that news confirming Manchester City are in advanced talks with Paris St-Germain to sign Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma clears the way for previous number one Ederson to join Turkish side Fenerbahce.

Manchester City are in advanced talks to sign goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris St-Germain for 35m euros (£30.3m).

The 26-year-old has been surplus to requirements at the Ligue 1 champions following the signing of Lucas Chevalier.

Sources have told BBC Sport that Pep Guardiola has now made a move and the deal is expected to be completed before the 19:00 BST deadline.

Regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world, Donnarumma has won 74 caps for Italy and was the hero in the penalty shoot victory over England at the 2020 European Championship.

Why exactly are Villa looking at Sancho?! What has he done in the last two seasons to warrant us wanting to take on his wages?! Strange decision from Villa, especially if the Martinez sale depends on this.

    Andrew

Villa need to do something now in an urgent matter. Our lack of activity is outstanding, so hopefully we can manage to get Asensio and Sancho as a bare minimum in today.

Aston Villa are closing on a loan deal for Manchester United’s out-of-favour winger Jadon Sancho.

The 25-year-old turned down a move to Italian side Roma earlier in the window while there had also been interest from Juventus.

Sancho spent the last 18 months on loan at Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea but neither club made the deal permanent. Chelsea paid a £5m penalty to United for going back on an obligation to sign Sancho.

  13. 'I expect Wissa to be a Brentford player come Tuesday'published at 10:34 British Summer Time 1 September

    Brentford

Brentford manager Keith Andrews was asked about the future of striker Yoane Wissa after his side's 2-1 defeat to Sunderland on Saturday.

He said: "Our stance has not changed through the summer. Unless anything has happened today, I expect Yoanne to be a Brentford player come Tuesday."

Forty-eight hours later, Newcastle United are closing in on an agreement for the forward.

Newcastle are closing in on an agreement for Brentford forward Yoane Wissa worth more than £50m, a day after he urged the Bees to "keep their word" and let him leave.

Brentford have already rejected two offers for the DR Congo international this summer - with the latest being £35m guaranteed plus £5m in add-ons.

It comes after Liverpool agreed a British transfer record fee of £125m to sign Newcastle striker Alexander Isak.

Magpies boss Eddie Howe is desperate to strengthen his forward line, despite completing the club record signing of striker Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart on a six-year contract last week.

Wissa, 28, issued a statement on Sunday publicly confirming he wanted to leave and accusing Brentford of "unduly standing in his way" of a move to Newcastle.

Get Involved - Should Man Utd lodge a 'cheeky bid' for Ederson?published at 10:29 British Summer Time 1 September

Click 'Get Involved' at the top of this page to have your say

Surely it’s worth Man Utd putting in a cheeky bid for Ederson given their desperate need for a goalkeeper.

    Nik

Senne Lammens has potential, but Emi Martínez is the smarter choice—proven at the top level, unfazed by pressure, and far less of a financial risk. All keepers make mistakes, but his experience matters. As Van der Sar proved, age isn’t an issue when you’ve got the pedigree.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has taken plenty of questions about his goalkeeping department this past few weeks.

After James Trafford's mistake against Tottenham, when he was picked ahead of Ederson, the Manchester City boss was asked about his options. He said: "We will see this week. This week, we will see."

When asked before Sunday's defeat at Brighton who would be their number one, Guardiola reiterated the point, saying he would see after today's transfer deadline.

Get Involved - 'Donnarumma is a trap'published at 10:26 British Summer Time 1 September

Click 'Get Involved' at the top of this page to have your say

I have mixed feelings about Donnarumma. He isn't exactly the kind of keeper we usually go for. Plus we just signed Trafford and I want us to develop him. This only works if Pep wants to change our system and he's not known for doing that, I'd rather a RB.

    Harry, Manchester

Donnarumma is a trap, he's terrible at dealing with crosses and with his feet. City are making a very expensive mistake. Martinez is dominant in the air and owns the box. United should absolutely sign him as a clear upgrade.

    Shamoon Hafez
    Manchester City reporter

We are still awaiting confirmation from the club of reports that Manchester City have agreed a deal to sign Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The 26-year-old has been surplus to requirements at the Ligue 1 champions following the signing of Lucas Chevalier.

City signed James Trafford for £27m in the summer and the Englishman has started the campaign as number one, but it seems like Pep Guardiola has his eye on the Italy international.

Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson, who has been City number one since 2017, has not featured this season and is then expected to seal a move to Turkish side Fenerbahce.

Sources close to Stefan Ortega have told BBC Sport the German goalkeeper is aiming to move away from City, while the club also signed Marcus Bettinelli from Chelsea in the summer.
