The message is here - if you do what everyone says is “the right thing” you don’t get your move. Isak and Wissa get their deals. Guehi doesn’t.

    Chris, Grimsby

That Guehi deal falling through maybe crucial. Liverpool needed him more than another player - gutted. He must be so disappointed. He acted with class, but lost out. Isak and Wissa didn't and got rewarded.

The move represents a coup for the newly promoted Championship side with Fofana having joined Chelsea from Molde in a £10m deal and spent time on loan at both Burnley and Union Berlin.

Striker Marc Guiu, 19, is back at Chelsea after his season-long loan spell at Sunderland was cut very short to cover for an injury to Liam Delap.

Sunderland sporting director Kristjaan Speakman said: “This has been an unusual situation to navigate, and our priority must always be to act in the best interests of Sunderland.

"Following discussions with Chelsea, Marc, and his representatives throughout the last 48 hours, we believe we have achieved this outcome and that this decision is in the best interests of all parties. We wish Marc well upon returning to Chelsea, who we continue to enjoy a strong relationship with, and we now move forward.”
