Manchester United have turned down an approach for winger Alejandro Garnacho from Italian side Napoli.

The Serie A side have made Garnacho, 20, their number-one target and plan to use money raised from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's impending move to Paris St-Germain.

However, they have failed with an initial approach for Garnacho that fell significantly below the Red Devils' valuation of the Argentina international.

It is not known the precise nature of the communication but it is thought the figure mentioned by Napoli was around £40m.

Though United will listen to offers for academy products to fund a rebuild for manager Ruben Amorim, they are not encouraging bids for Garnacho or England midfielder Kobbie Mainoo.

He's not the messiah, he's a very naughty boy.

Sorry, I appreciate a Monty Python reference at this hour may very well go over many people's heads.

But Skully may have a point. As dramatic as last night's win for Manchester United was, does it just paper over the cracks? They were second best for much of the match.

Ipswich win should give Brighton belief - Hurzeler

Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler speaking to BBC Sport: "It wasn't the best performance from us, but in the end, we controlled the game and were stable out of possession. We created more chances in the second half, so we deserved to win. I am happy about it. We have suffered in this period and this win should give us the belief and self confidence. Now we have to prepare for the next challenge."

On Georginio Rutter: "I am impressed by his attitude and how positive he always is. He always has a smile on his face. He really enjoys being on the pitch and playing with the lads. He has a lot of important experience in the Championship. He is a good finisher and I am very happy he is here. But there are a lot of things to improve and he knows it. We try to give him the environment where he can improve every day."

Ipswich 'lost belief' after Brighton took the lead - McKenna

Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna, speaking to Match of the Day, said: "It was a really even game until the first goal. In the first 60 minutes we were the more threatening side, we had the better opportunities and got into the better areas but it was a poor first goal and then the game went away from us.

"We lost belief in ourselves on the pitch, they brought on better subs and pushed on and they were the better side in the last 30 minutes.

"We didn't defend well enough to stop the goal and we have to find a better response, but we didn't manage to do that today."

Brighton claimed their first Premier League win since November as goals from Kaoru Mitoma and Georginio Rutter helped them overcome relegation-threatened Ipswich Town at Portman Road.

The hosts had drawn three good saves from visiting keeper Bart Verbruggen with Wes Burns also shooting just wide, before an unmarked Mitoma side-footed a 15-yard shot past goalkeeper Christian Walton for the crucial opener.

Joao Pedro almost added a second for the Seagulls, but Walton made an athletic one-handed stop to push the strike wide.

However, the Seagulls made sure of the three points in the 81st minute when substitute Rutter was allowed time and space to turn and shoot into the bottom corner.

Brighton had not won in their past eight league matches, although they had drawn six of those, and this victory moved them up to ninth place, going above Fulham and Brentford.

The defeat will be difficult to take for Southampton fans because they were the better side for a good 70 minutes.

"We had some really good chances in the first half and we had to score more," Southampton boss Ivan Juric said.

"We began the second half very well and Kamaldeen Sulemana had a chance and others as well. We only scored once and that was not enough.

"The guys are working well. But we need to work a little more hard to maintain the intensity. I want to see the same spirit in the next game.

"The players have to be conscious that they can compete and play well. Our idea is to improve every game."

"He did a great job, it's a great moment for a young kid to score a hat-trick for a club like this. But he needs to focus on the next match already...

"The important thing is to win and he helped us to win. He's doing a very good season. I've already said, you have to be careful with young kids. He did a really good job.

"He has a lot to improve but this game is in the past and you have to prepare for the future. Football is like this and life is like this."

Even Manchester United's own social media team nearly gave up.

The drive for interactions is intense at every Premier League club on match nights, but sometimes, there doesn't seem to be much point.

"Probably an obvious winner but the poll's open regardless," was the notification United pushed through about 10 minutes after the final whistle had sounded on their 3-1 success over Southampton.

They knew, as anyone in the stadium did, who the man of the match would be.

Amad Diallo was not even off the pitch at that point. After grabbing the match ball and acknowledging the adulation of all four sides of Old Trafford, the Ivorian was dragged to the portable broadcast table quickly erected pitchside to talk about his momentous achievement, equalising eight minutes from the end of what had been a tepid performance before scoring twice in stoppage time to give United victory.

"[It is] maybe one of the best weeks in my life," Diallo told TNT after scoring his first senior hat-trick.

"We believed until the end and are happy to win this game. We drew with Arsenal and Liverpool so the confidence was there."
