First "wheeeyy" of the day as Vaclav Cerny misplaces a dink towards James Tavernier straight out.

Aside from that, Rangers have started pretty well.

Propper should have done better with his header.

It should have found someone back across goal but he put too much on it.

An instant opportunity for Rangers to put a ball in the Celtic box from a free-kick.

Vaclav Cerny bends it to the back post, where Robin Propper heads the ball straight out at the other end.

  6. 'Rangers need a result'published at 12:29 British Summer Time 1 September

    Celtic v Rangers (12:30)

    Billy Dodds
Former Rangers striker on BBC Sportsound

There is a confidence from Celtic, which you can understand with the results over the last few years.

They are heavy favourites today, there is no doubt. But it will not be a walk over unless Rangers implode, and maybe lose a player. It will be a hard-fought match.

Rangers have to get through the first 20 minutes here and then bed themselves in. They need some sort of result. They need to show they are chipping away at Celtic.

When you are up against Callum McGregor, you need physicality and a little bit of dash about you to get close to him.

But it's your mentality. It's how you deal with him that matters. You have got to have a good understanding of how to deal with that. That's the difference.

You've got to have a player who can deal with him, and I think Mohamed Diomande has shown he can duel with him.

If he comes out and doesn't get dominated, Rangers have a chance.

    James McFadden
Former Scotland forward on Sky Sports

James Tavernier has to show his experience now, because Robin Propper and Jefte haven't played at Celtic Park before.

Over the last few years Daizen Maeda has certainly got the better of him.

It's a big afternoon for him, as always.

  10. 'Rangers full-backs a concern'published at 12:20 British Summer Time 1 September

Celtic have caused Rangers all sorts of problems in behind the full-backs in recent derbies.

So there is a concern, particularly for the new signings Robin Propper and Jefte.

Rangers 'have to turn up v Celtic' - Souness

Fairly simple advice, but Rangers legened Graeme Souness says his former side need to "turn up" today.

Too often the Ibrox side have struggled to deal with the occasion and conceded daft early goals.

This will be a big test of character for Rangers' new faces - and the familiar ones.

  13. What do the stats say?published at 12:16 British Summer Time 1 September

    Celtic v Rangers (12:30)

    • Celtic have lost just one of the last 12 derbies in all competitions (W8 D3) - a 3-0 defeat in May 2023. They had lost seven of their previous 10 meetings with Rangers before that (W2 D1).
    • Since the start of 2022-23, Rangers have lost all four away league games against Celtic. They last lost five in a row against at Celtic Park in April 1980.
    • Celtic have won the first Premiership Old Firm derby in six of the eight seasons since Rangers’ promotion in 2016 (L2).
    • Brendan Rodgers' side have won all three of their league matches this season by an aggregate score of 9-0. The last side to win and keep a clean sheet in each of their first four were Celtic themselves in 2010-11.
    • Rangers have only won one of their last six away league games (D3 L2) and are winless in their last three (D2 L1).

    Prem table

Is it a bit early to be getting too concerned about league tables? Maybe.

But a win for Celtic will take them above Aberdeen at the top and would also open up a five-point gap on Rangers at this early stage.

Hearts, Kilmarnock and Hibs will be looking to pull themselves up the table a bit later, while Dundee United will be bidding to strengthen their top-six position.

It’s been quite a week at Celtic Park that has created a real buzz among the club’s support.

A Champions League draw that offers excitement and hope in equal measure, and the arrivals late in the transfer window of Arne Engels, Alex Valle, Auston Trusty and Luke McCowan has brought more belief that this could be a memorable season,

Rangers on the other hand have not had their problems to seek early in the campaign, and manager Philippe Clement has spoken of how a positive result can change the "negative perception" of the club at the moment.

Celtic are rightly big favourites, but one thing we know about these derby matches is anything can happen.

  18. 'New Gers don't have baggage'published at 12:02 British Summer Time 1 September

    Celtic v Rangers (12:30)

    Pat Bonner
Former Celtic goalkeeper on BBC Sportsound

If Rangers win today, it would be a big surprise.

They are at Celtic Park without any away fans here. It's been a tough place to come to and get results from in the last couple years.

Rangers have a number of players who have experienced that, but now they have new players that don't have that baggage.

I think Rangers are a stronger team [than recent seasons] and it's Brendan Rodgers' job to make sure his Celtic team understand that they can't just walk on the pitch and win a game against Rangers, they need to do the business.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers: "We just need to go and be us today. The games are iconic but ultimately we want to perform well and that's been the messaging.

"The club have done great in terms of ins and outs. There's been a lot of work going on for a number of months.

"We needed to strengthen and I feel we've done that. It's a big applause to the club for getting the work done and we've brought in some fantastic players who can help us over the course of the season.

"There's no need to change, the guys who have come in have all been playing and are at a good level of fitness. But with the team working the way they have been it gives us the chance over the coming weeks to introduce the guys into the squad and starting team.

"We never assume we're going to turn up and win. That's key to the winning mantra that's at this football club.

"You can never be complacent no matter how well you're playing. These games are always a challenge emotionally. But our focus is playing our football and playing at the speed and intensity we want to play at."
