Sunderland's substantial offer for Leicester midfielder Kasey McAteer has been rejected.

It is slightly less than the initial £8m reported but has been turned down by the Foxes.

McAteer, 23, has made 15 appearances for the Foxes this season and has featured six times under current boss Ruud Van Nistelrooy.

The academy graduate, a Republic of Ireland international, has played 45 times, scoring six goals, for the club and won the Championship with the Foxes last season.

Sunderland are fourth in the Championship and face Middlesbrough at the Riverside tonight.

    Chelsea

As a Villa fan, I'm so annoyed at Chelsea today for withholding Felix and Disasi from us! I know they're well within their rights to avoid selling players to their rivals, but it's just frustrating that there are players who want to come to Villa and whom Emery personally wants to coach and who cannot come. Especially Felix! Chelsea swooped in to buy him in place of us during the summer, and they literally sell him again half a year later. If they think selling him to us will threaten them, why don't they use such a threatening player!

  6. Tottenham revive interest in Disasipublished at 17:11 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February

Tottenham are back in talks to sign defender Axel Disasi on loan from Chelsea.

Spurs had previously ruled out a move but agents have been working to convince the once reluctant France international to accept the move.

The 26-year-old has struggled under Enzo Maresca this season while Ange Postecoglou admitted to targeting defensive reinforcements after the 2-0 win away at Brentford yesterday.

Interestingly, Disasi is cup-tied for both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup matches, while Spurs can only register three new players for the Europa League knockout stage.

Disasi could become Spurs's fourth transfer window signing after completed moves for goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky and defender Kevin Danso - with forward Mathys Tel expected to join from Bayern Munich.

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has signed a new contract with Bayern.

The 38-year-old is now committed to the club until 30 June 2026, taking him to 15 seasons.

    Tottenham Hotspur

Earlier, we brought you the news that Tottenham's pursuit of Chelsea defender Axel Disasi had hit a stumbling block with Aston Villa also interested.

It seems, according to Matt Law at The Telegraph, Spurs have resurrected their attempts to bring in the 26-year-old on loan.

It seems it's all down to the player at this point.

  9. Transfers pending and done dealspublished at 17:00 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February

We're nearly on the homestretch. Kind of. Here are the top lines from today so far.

    Completed deals:

Evan Ferguson, 20, has joined West Ham from Brighton on loan for the rest of the season.

Brighton have confirmed the signing of Stefanos Tzimas, 19, from Bundesliga 2 side FC Nuremberg - the move is subject to international clearance.

James Ward-Prowse, 30, has returned to West Ham from Nottingham Forest after the two clubs came to a mutual agreement to end his season-long loan.

    What deals could happen?

Sourced have told BBC Sport that Spurs have agreed a deal to sign 19-year-old Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich.

There’s a lot of rumours in Portugal that Manchester City's pursuit of Nico Gonzalez has been successful, and the Porto midfielder is on his way to England. City however, for now, remain adamant that there is no agreement – yet.

Southampton's Flynn Downes, 26, could be a player who makes a late move ahead of this evening's deadline. Downes is linked with a move to Ipswich.

Crystal Palace defender Rob Holding, 29, is close to completing a move to Championship side Sheffield United.

AC Milan are close to agreeing a loan deal until the end of the season for 25-year-old Chelsea attacker, Joao Felix.

Mario Lemina is close to returning to Galatasaray from Wolves for £2.5m.

Aston Villa still expect to wrap up the loan signing of Marco Asensio, 29, from Paris St-Germain but there is less certainty surrounding their interest in Chelsea central defender Axel Disasi, 26, Phil McNulty reports.

Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O’Brien, 26, is closing in on a loan move to Championship side Swansea City, reports Nick Mashiter.

The Telegraph journalist Matt Law is reporting that Chelsea have agreed a deal for St-Etienne's 19-year-old midfielder, Mathis Amougou.

My colleague Simon Stone reported on Sheffield United's search for a centre back and that the rumours around Crystal Palace defender Rob Holding were the strongest.

One source with knowledge of a potential deal understands that Holding is close to completing a move to Sheffield United.

We are still working to verify Sheffield United's stance on this but it looks likely.

The 29-year-old has only made one appearance for Palace since signing in September 2023.

Word is that the Blues are still in the market for a midfielder this window and, according to Matt Law at The Telegraph, they have agreed a deal for St-Etienne's Mathis Amougou.

  15. Felix a man in demandpublished at 16:42 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February

We're glad you bought up Joao Felix's transfer history, James. Felix is only 25-years-old and yet has already moved from Benfica to Atletico Madrid to a loan spell at Chelsea to a loan stint at Barcelona and then back to Chelsea permanently.

Now it looks like he could be heading for AC Milan on loan.

So many top clubs, yet it just hasn't seemed to work out for him.

All of those moves have so far added up to around 190.2m euros (£158m).

João Felix is the new Morata. He's just going to go club to club for obscene money despite underwhelming at every single one. He'll go down as the most expensive player in history with nothing to show for it.

    Chelsea

In August 2024, Joao Felix secured a permanent move to Chelsea in a deal worth up to £45m from Atletico Madrid.

Since then playing time has been hard to come by for the 25-year-old.

Felix has appeared just 12 times in the Premier League this season, with nine of them coming from the bench. He has scored once in the league during that time - on his debut against Wolves.

Felix won’t be a loss. We have many options upfront and can make the top 4 without a C team player banging on the door asking for gametime.

    Ryan

Why we signed Joao Felix is still a mystery to me. He's underperformed for multiple clubs now and was never going to play over Palmer. Suppose it all makes sense when these are the same sporting directors who thought Sanchez is good enough.

    An update from the Championship.

Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O'Brien is closing in on a loan move to Swansea.

The 26-year-old has not played for Forest for two years and spent four months on loan at LA Galaxy until November last year.

He has also had time on loan at Middlesbrough and DC United and is expected to complete a move to south Wales later this evening.
