1. AC Milan closing in on loan deal for Felixpublished at 16:25 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February

AC Milan are close to agreeing a loan deal for Chelsea attacker Joao Felix until the end of the season.

The 25-year-old forward has started just three league games since his £45m summer move from Atletico Madrid, which saw midfielder Conor Gallagher move in a separate but linked £33m move.

Felix signed a seven-year contract last summer but is set to leave just six months after joining the west Londoners.

He has struggled to start matches in the Premier League due to the presence of star player Cole Palmer.

It's never done until it's done is a phrase journalists get told quite often around transfer deadline day.

That is still Manchester City's stance on Nico Gonzalez and FC Porto.

City are adamant there is no agreement - yet.

But I have also been told Gonzalez has been cleared for a medical, which suggests strongly all parties at least expect the deal to be completed.

Remember, this one would be to strengthen a midfield that has struggled badly since Rodri suffered a serious knee injury in September.

  4. Leeds United unlikely to sign any more playerspublished at 16:19 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February

Leeds had explored a deal for Southampton striker Cameron Archer but it has proved unviable and he is likely to stay.

The Championship league leaders are in excellent form but will be hoping that neither Joel Piroe or Mateo Joseph suffer injuries during a busy and high-stakes run-in.

Saints have also acknowledged that Archer is unlikely to leave while Leeds were also linked with a left-sided defender to bolster their squad but that's also looking unlikely.

Of the 21 Premier League signings this January involving a fee, the average age of the signed players is just under 20.

Bournemouth have signed a 19 and an 18-year-old, Brighton 19, 21 and 23-year-old, Man Utd a 20 and an 18-year-old, while Man City's four new arrivals have an average age of 20.5.

There's definitely a shift downwards in terms of the age range for player acquisition, for two reasons - the potential sell-on fee for the player should he succeed and, perhaps more importantly, the physical rigours of the modern game. Both Pep Guardiola and Andoni Iraola have alluded to this in the past few weeks; the modern tactics deployed require more ground to be covered than ever, and there's no question this is having an impact on recruitment strategy.

  9. Curious case of Joao Felixpublished at 16:06 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February

    Nizaar Kinsella

The writing may have been on the wall for Joao Felix when he barely celebrated his two goals against Morecambe in the FA Cup third round in early January.

The Portugal international has been 'the man for the small occasions', according to a post match report from the Telegraph.

It highlighted how Felix mostly only starts against lesser opposition in the FA Cup, Carabao Cup and Conference League under manager Enzo Maresca.

It's a strange situation given the attacker once cost £113m when signed by Atletico Madrid in 2018 and was given a seven-year deal just last summer.

Having previously gone on loan at Chelsea and Barcelona, he is looking at his third temporary home to realise the potential he once showed when first breaking through at Benfica.

Ipswich Fan here. Why do I keep seeing these fans of the big six saying we need to get Delap. Ipswich aren't going to sell him in this transfer window as that would be accepting relegation as a certainty. Come back with £60-70mil in the summer and then we'll talk.

Another hour ticks by. The countdown is well and truly on. Here are the top lines from today.

    Completed deals:

Evan Ferguson, 20, has joined West Ham from Brighton on loan for the rest of the season.

Brighton have confirmed the signing of Stefanos Tzimas, 19, from Bundesliga 2 side FC Nuremberg - the move is subject to international clearance.

James Ward-Prowse, 30, has returned to West Ham from Nottingham Forest after the two clubs came to a mutual agreement to end his season-long loan.

    What deals could happen?:

Sourced have told BBC Sport that Spurs have agreed a deal to sign 19-year-old Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich.

There’s a lot of rumours in Portugal that Manchester City's pursuit of Nico Gonzalez has been successful, and the Porto midfielder is on his way to England.

Southampton's Flynn Downes, 26, could be a player who makes a late move ahead of this evening's deadline. Downes is linked with a move to Ipswich

The Athletic's David Ornstein has reported that AC Milan have reached a verbal agreement with Chelsea for 25-year-old, Joao Felix.

Mario Lemina is close to returning to Galatasaray from Wolves for £2.5m.

Aston Villa still expect to wrap up the loan signing of Marco Asensio, 29, from Paris St-Germain but there is less certainty surrounding their interest in Chelsea central defender Axel Disasi, 26, Phil McNulty reports.

Plymouth are working on a deal for Hearts midfielder Malachi Boateng.

The Championship strugglers, five points adrift of safety at the bottom of the table, are looking for reinforcements to help their survival bid.

Boateng, who spent last season on loan at Dundee, agreed a three-year deal with the Scottish Premiership club when he joined from Crystal Palace in the summer.

The 22-year-old has made 28 appearances for Hearts this season.

His brother, Hiram, who currently plays for Mansfield in League One had two spells on loan at Plymouth between 2015 and 2016 from Palace.

  15. Danns set for new Liverpool deal before loan movepublished at 15:50 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February

    Mandeep Sanghera
    BBC Sport

As we mentioned earlier, Liverpool forward Jayden Danns looks set to join Sunderland on loan for the rest of the season.

The 19-year-old is likely to join the promotion-chasing Championship side for more first-team experience but, before doing so, he is expected to sign a new long term deal on improved terms with Liverpool.

Danns, who has been with the Reds since he was eight, made his first-team debut for the Anfield side last season when they beat Luton Town in a Premier League game under Jurgen Klopp in February 2024.

He helped Liverpool beat Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final a few days later and then scored his first goals for the club in an FA Cup win against Southampton.

Danns made his Champions League debut in a defeat at PSV Eindhoven last week, when he started the league stage game with Liverpool already through to last 16 stage.

  17. Lemina close to Wolves exitpublished at 15:45 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February

    Nick Mashiter
    BBC Sport football news reporter

Midfielder Mario Lemina is close to returning to Galatasaray from Wolves for £2.5m.

The 31-year-old should complete a move to Turkey to end a two-year stay at Molineux.

He previously played for Galatasaray on loan from Southampton in 2019-20, making 24 appearances.

Al-Shabab wanted to take him to the Saudi Pro League earlier in the window but were only willing to sign him for free, something which was not considered by Wolves.

Lemina lost the captaincy at Molineux in December, following a clash with West Ham's Jarrod Bowen, and a January move had been expected.

Manager Vitor Pereira said last month the former Southampton man would not play until the transfer window had shut, with Lemina having initially refused to make himself available for selection before a U-turn.

  18. 'Man City are in a really strong financial position'published at 15:42 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February

    Kieran Maguire
Football finance expert on BBC Radio 5 Live

On why Manchester City are able to spend so much money despite the 115 charges hanging over their head...

Manchester City have been very successful financially over recent years. Under these profitability and sustainability rules, you are allowed to lose £105m over a rolling three-year period. Manchester City have probably made somewhere in the region of £160-170m worth of profit because there has been an awful lot of players leaving the club - as well as the benefits of qualifying for Europe every year, the bonuses from sponsors and broadcasters for winning all of these trophies. From a financial perspective, they are in a really strong position.

The 115 charges relates to the period 2009-2018, so that, to a certain extent, is ancient history. When it does come to pass that we get a judgement, we will have to have a complete reset I think in what they can spend going forwards.

Any chance of City signing anyone? We've desperately needed a centre midfielder for months. Can't believe someone didn't arrive on 1st Jan. Gundo 33, KDB 34, Kova/Bernardo 30. A massive rebuild is needed, we're so leggy at the moment.
