Then there's Leeds United who have a really, really good squad. They have strength in depth. Both are getting some good results.

Burnley are pushing in just behind them, Scott Parker has done it [promotion] before. Sunderland have also had a good win this evening, winning late at their local rivals Middlesborough. So it's getting tight. The pressure is on.

Manchester United and Chelsea showed an interest in him earlier this window, while Arsenal have also been linked with him this month.

Tel was described by then Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic as "one of the biggest talents in Europe" when the Bundesliga giants signed him from Rennes for around £23m in 2022.

But, two-and-a-half seasons on, and with just nine Bayern starts to his name, he has yet to fulfill that potential.

Tel joins a Spurs side who go into Thursday's League Cup semi-final second leg at Anfield with a 1-0 lead, still in the Europa League and FA Cup, but under pressure in the Premier League, sitting 14th.

  6. 'Liverpool don't need to rush'published at 23:35 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February

    Michael Brown
Former Manchester City midfielder on The Football News Show: Deadline Day Special

Liverpool are in a good flow at the minute. Their game in hand is coming next week at Everton and that will be the difference between them going out of sight or whether Arsenal can have a little bit of a march.

They don't need to rush. They would always like to make additions but they have to be right rather than them coming in and sitting on the bench for a period of time or they upset the balance.
