    Aston Villa

I can't possibly say a window where Villa sign a Champions League winner and Marcus Rashford is bad, but I really think the defence is the problem area at the moment that needed strengthening. We've had a midfielder playing CB the last few games.

    Matt

Villa deadline day has been the best I remember. Signed England international forward AND another Champions League winner. Be nice to have a centre back but can't complain.

He has not played a game for Forest in over two years.

  3. Esteve to replace Dragusin?published at 19:30 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February

The news of Radu Dragusin's injury is a huge blow for Tottenham.

It comes at the same time as reports in France say Ange Postecoglou's side have made a £20m bid for Burnley defender Maxime Esteve.

The Frenchman has been a mainstay in the Clarets backline which is pushing for promotion back to Premier League and one that has conceded only nine goals this season.

But senior Burnley sources have told me that there is no truth about receiving a bid for the 22-year-old so it's a rumour that can be quashed.

The news Tottenham fans were dreading has been confirmed with Radu Dragusin suffering an ACL injury. He will miss the remainder of the season as well as the start of next.

Should Spurs be dipping into the market to bring in another defender? They've got just over three-and-a-half hours to do so.

Quite admire Villa's approach, they desperately need defensive reinforcements but instead going for the 'we will score more than you' approach by signing more attacking options. Some epic 4-3's incoming.

I would be more thrilled with the Asensio signing if it had a buy option, but more importantly if we had shored up our defence in this window beforehand.

Transfer deadline day is no longer what it was. There are teams that are still active and some deals will rumble on later.

For the most part, though, clubs have done their business and will be in bed now!

Spurs are well-run but you can see why they have added a couple late on. I don't really understand why they took so long to bring in Kevin Danso when it has been evident for so long that they needed a centre-back.

The signing of Marco Asensio for Aston Villa is a bit of a coup.

The 29-year-old won three Champions Leagues with Real Madrid, scoring in the 2017 final against Juventus.

After 61 goals in 286 games for Real, the Spain international moved to Paris St-Germain on a free transfer 18 months ago.

He has scored seven times in 41 games for PSG. He could become a star player if he can find his best form in the second half of the season.

  15. Transfers pending and done deals - recappublished at 18:59 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February

The window hasn't slam shut just yet, but it has been pushed to slightly. As we enter the final four hours, here are the top lines from today.

    Completed deals:

Evan Ferguson, 20, has joined West Ham from Brighton on loan for the rest of the season.

Brighton have confirmed the signing of Stefanos Tzimas, 19, from Bundesliga 2 side FC Nuremberg - the move is subject to international clearance.

James Ward-Prowse, 30, has returned to West Ham from Nottingham Forest after the two clubs came to a mutual agreement to end his season-long loan.

Brighton winger Caylan Vickers, 20, has joined League One side Mansfield Town on loan until the end of the season.

Burnley defender John Egan has joined fellow Championship side Hull City for an undisclosed fee. The 32-year-old has signed an 18-month deal.

    What deals could happen?

Sourced have told BBC Sport that Spurs have agreed a deal to sign 19-year-old Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich.

There’s a lot of rumours in Portugal that Manchester City's pursuit of Nico Gonzalez has been successful, and the Porto midfielder is on his way to England. City however, for now, remain adamant that there is no agreement.

Southampton's Flynn Downes, 26, could be a player who makes a late move ahead of this evening's deadline. Downes is linked with a move to Ipswich.

AC Milan are close to agreeing a loan deal until the end of the season for 25-year-old Chelsea attacker, Joao Felix.

Mario Lemina is close to returning to Galatasaray from Wolves for £2.5m.

Aston Villa still expect to wrap up the loan signing of Marco Asensio, 29, from Paris St-Germain.

Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O’Brien, 26, is closing in on a loan move to Championship side Swansea City, reports Nick Mashiter.

Tottenham Hotspur have reignited their interest in Chelsea defender Axel Disasi and hope to a strike a loan deal for the 26-year-old before the deadline.

One set to come in the other way at Chelsea is St Etienne midfielder Mathis Amougou, 19, for a fee of around £12m.

Everton teenager Harrison Armstrong, 18, is set to head out on loan to Championship strugglers Derby County.

Dutch journalist Joost Blaauwhof and Fabrizio Romano are reporting that 25-year-old Manchester United left-back Tyrell Malacia is set to join PSV Eindhoven on loan.

Sky Sports are currently reporting that Crystal Palace winger Jeffrey Schlupp, 32, could join Celtic before tonight's deadline.

Crystal Palace defender Rob Holding, 29, is set to join Championship promotion hopefuls Sheffield United on loan, according to reports.

Manchester United are fearing the worst over Argentina defender Lisandro Martinez.

The 27-year-old was stretchered off in tears during United’s home defeat by Crystal Palace on Sunday after appearing to jar his knee as he tried to turn near the end of the game.

Reports in Argentina have claimed Martinez has suffered cruciate ligament damage, which would rule him out for the remainder of this season and almost certainly the start of the 2025-26 campaign as well.

United are yet to make an official comment on the situation.

However, sources at Old Trafford accept Martinez could be set for an extended spell on the sidelines.

Head coach Ruben Amorim said last night after the Palace game he thought the injury was ‘serious’.

Martinez has established himself as the left-sided defender in Amorim’s preferred three-man rearguard.

While Luke Shaw could fill that role when he eventually returns to first team duties after coming back to training after his latest injury problems, Amorim may also need Noussair Mazraoui to move into a central role after making his most recent appearances as right wing-back.

Middlesbrough's approach for Liverpool's Tyler Morton is not expected to progress.

The Championship side did make a bid for the midfielder and held talks but they have not managed to find an agreement for the 22-year-old.

A package of over £10m has been reported, although sources dispute the figure.

Morton has made five appearances for Liverpool this season, including in last week's 3-2 Champions League defeat at PSV.

Boro, who host Sunderland in the Championship tonight, have already taken Ben Doak on loan from Anfield this season.

The 19-year-old winger has three goals in 24 games for Michael Carrick's side, who are seventh in the table and out of the play-off spots on goal difference.
