We still have one more tie to decide with Tranmere and Burton going again next week after their power outage last night.

We need to lay down - thanks for joining us - good night!

  2. 'It's a good lesson for us'published at 22:34 British Summer Time 13 August

    FT: Birmingham 2-1 Sheff Utd

    Sheffield United

It's two defeats from two for Ruben Selles at the start of his tenure as Sheffield United boss - he's been talking to Sky Sports:

"We have a smaller squad and needed to give chances to young players tonight and sometimes mistakes happen.

"We know Gustavo's (Hamer) quality and he's a player who can change games and he did it for us with that goal.

"It's now about how we manage moments in a game where we should not concede - it's a good lesson for us. We need to take it into the future."

  4. 'We were fluid and intense'published at 22:26 British Summer Time 13 August

    FT: Birmingham 2-1 Sheff Utd

    Birmingham City

Birmingham needed a late winner from Jay Stansfield despite dominating against Sheffield United and Blues boss Chris Davies has told Sky Sports:

"We played really well - I was happy with our performance - we were fluid with the ball and intense.

"At half-time it should have been 3-0 and we should have been out of sight - but we have to detach ourselves a little from the scoreline and look at the performance overall.

"Kyogo (Furuhashi) knows how to score goals - he's a natural scorer and when they're getting chances I know he'll score. He was a real nuisance tonight, dangerous and linking up - he'll get plenty of goals I'm sure."

  5. 'Blues kept plugging away'published at 22:23 British Summer Time 13 August

    FT: Birmingham 2-1 Sheff Utd

    Ian Clarkson
Ex-Birmingham captain on BBC Radio WM

It is all you can ask for really and was a thoroughly deserved victory for Blues, the game was definitely a bit closer than it should have been.

To only win 2-1 was a travesty, but Gus Hamer's goal was an incredible strike. But even after the equaliser Blues kept plugging away and we played a high pressing game.

We created so many chances to score it felt like only a matter of time.

What a night of EFL Cup action... what a first round we have seen.

Huddersfield join Doncaster, Bradford and Plymouth in knocking Championship opposition packing, pipping Leicester on penalties.

Cheltenham caused an upset of their own, beating Exeter, joining League Two Bromley in knocking out higher-division opponents.

Sheffield United's week has gone from bad to worse, their past three games have been defeat in the Championship play-off final, a 4-1 home humbling and now a last-gasp EFL Cup exit.

And there have been some truly stunning goals along the way too, and some wonderful performances by teenagers given their chance to shine in this competition.

Roll on round two... speaking of which...

  9. 'Wednesday perform above and beyond'published at 22:09 British Summer Time 13 August

FT: Bolton 3-3 Sheff Wed - Wednesday win 4-2 on pens

    Phil Brown
Former Bolton defender on BBC Radio Manchester

Wednesday were a young side and they knew they had to perform above and beyond the call of duty, having never been in this environment before. And they did it in front of a decent crowd.

And as for the Sheffield Wednesday fans. Well, the owner come on have a look at what you have got here, it is a proper football club and now you are going to play Leeds United with the chance to go even further in this cup.

Come on just pay the bill.

  10. 'We want to play like that'published at 22:06 British Summer Time 13 August

    FT: Birmingham 2-1 Sheff Utd

    Birmingham City

Birmingham were dominant against Sheffield United tonight and player of the match Ethan Laird has been speaking to Sky Sports:

"There were a few decisions that didn't go our way but it's amazing to get the win.

"We want to play like that - be a pressing team, be confident on the ball, be brave.

"I was trying be as busy as possible - I've had a little setback in pre-season but hopefully I can keep building on it.

"I feel it was important we kept a good core of players from last season and if you want to get to places you have to build on that and keep bringing in these transfers - it's a great buzz."

  11. 'Wednesday deserved the win'published at 22:04 British Summer Time 13 August

A lot of credit for this game needs to go to the manager, and the coaching staff for what they have done through pre-season. If you look at the shape of the team tonight they were very well organised.

They were brave in possession and took the ball under pressure and they managed to get over the line on penalties.

Wednesday deserved the win and overall I don't feel as if Bolton caused many problems, and we looked a threat on the counterattack.

It is a special moment for these fans.

Chris Davies brought on the big guns to try to win it and Jay Stansfield came to the rescue with a late deflected effort.
