Summary

  1. 'Bolton playing into Wednesday's hands'published at 21:09 British Summer Time

    Bolton 1-2 Sheff Wed

    Ross Wallace
Ex-Sheffield Wednesday winger on BBC Radio Sheffield

Bolton are playing into Sheffield Wednesday's hands as they are playing straight into the midfield where we have the bodies to stop them.

The difficulty would be if Bolton decide to go out wide, which they haven't so far.

Sheffield Wednesday have control of the game currently.

  2. PENALTY TO HUDDERSFIELDpublished at 21:08 British Summer Time

    Huddersfield 0-1 Leicester

Ruben Roosken finally gets a penalty after a needless sliding challenge from Hamza Choudhury, this time...

  3. GREAT SAVE!published at 21:06 British Summer Time

    Huddersfield 0-1 Leicester

Nearly a nightmare for City keeper Jakub Stolarczyk whose sloppy pass is easily cut out by a Terriers shirt in no man's land but the big keeper is able to backtrack to claw away the attempted lob from distance from Ben Wiles.

  4. SUBSTITUTIONSpublished at 21:05 British Summer Time

    Birmingham 1-0 Sheff Utd

Sheffield United replace Callum O'Hare with Sydie Peck at the break - O'Hare was the only man retained from Saturday's starting side for the Blades.

Birmingham replace Demarai Gray with Keshi Anderson.

  5. SUBSTITUTIONSpublished at 21:04 British Summer Time

    Huddersfield 0-1 Leicester

Harry Winks and Stephy Mavididi are coming on to try to see the game out for Leicetser, with Jeremy Monga and Oliver Skipp making way.

  6. Postpublished at 21:02 British Summer Time

    Huddersfield 0-1 Leicester

Huddersfield's Lynden Gooch clips a 20-yard free-kick into the middle, when a shot might actually have been on, but Josh Feeney can only head down the throat of Foxes keeper Jakub Stolarczyk.

  7. goal

GOAL Barnsley 2-1 Fleetwoodpublished at 21:02 British Summer Time

Toby Mullarkey (59 mins - OG)

Barnsley back in front and oh dear from Toby Mullarkey as he turns Reyes Cleary's cross past his own goalkeeper.

He grabbed the leveller for Fleetwood just before the break but Mullarkey's second of the night - this time in the wrong net - gives the home side the lead again.

  8. Postpublished at 21:01 British Summer Time

    Huddersfield 0-1 Leicester

Dion Charles has the chance of an instant reply as a ball in from the left finds the Terriers forward in space but he opts to take a touch rather than hit it first time and is swiftly smothered by Wout Faes.

Huddersfield have been awoken by that goal, however...

  9. 'More urgency from Bolton'published at 20:59 British Summer Time

    Bolton 1-2 Sheff Wed

I sense already more urgency from the Bolton Wanderers players, by far more than we saw in the first time.

Wanderers still look very vulnerable from Wednesday's long balls being launched forward.

  10. goal

GOAL Cheltenham 2-0 Exeterpublished at 20:59 British Summer Time

    Ryan Broom (55 mins)

Start the car for round two and a trip to Cardiff?

It's another close-range effort and this time Ryan Broom converts for the home side.

A nice two-goal cushion for the League Two side.

  11. goal

GOAL: Huddersfield 0-1 Leicesterpublished at 20:58 British Summer Time

    Hamza Choudhury (54 mins)

Leicester City's Hamza Choudhury (left) celebrates scoring their side's first goal of the gamImage source, PA Media

    What a hit this is...

After a spell of pressure Huddersfield only half-clear a ball in from the right of the box and it's straight at Hamza Choudhury, lurking near the right corner of the area.

He takes a touch and then lashes a sweet half-volley across goal and inside the far top corner for his first goal in more than five-and-a-half years.

Only his second ever goal, and I doubt he'll score better.

    City probably deserve their advantage.

  12. 'Very testing for the United defence'published at 20:57 British Summer Time

    HT: Birmingham 1-0 Sheff Utd

    Carl Asaba
Former Sheffield United striker on BBC Radio Sheffield

Sheffield United need to try to solidify at the back. The centre-back Dovydas Sasnauskas has had a tough evening so far, and he will learn from these mistakes.

It has been very testing for the United defence and we are extremely fortunate to be going in only 1-0 down.

  13. CLOSE!published at 20:57 British Summer Time

    Bolton 1-2 Sheff Wed

Aaron Morley's deep corner from the right is headed back across goal by a Trotters head, all the way back to Morley who tries an outrageous shot from what I'll call 'the van Basten position', and isn't too far away from finding the far top corner, in fairness to him.

  14. GREAT SAVE!published at 20:54 British Summer Time

    Bolton 1-2 Sheff Wed

Olaf Kobacki lets fly from a bouncing ball just outside the area as the Owls seek to add to their lead but Tyler Miller flies to his right to get a strong hand to his effort.

  15. 'All still to play for'published at 20:51 British Summer Time

    HT: Birmingham 1-0 Sheff Utd

Ex-Birmingham captain on BBC Radio WM

Chris Davies, Manager of Birmingham City, looks on during the Carabao Cup first round match between Birmingham City and Sheffield United at St Andrew’s at Knighthead ParkImage source, Getty Images

It is balanced on a knife edge at the moment. Blues have been by far the better team. It was great to see Kyogo Furuhashi score his first goal for the team.

I have been particularly impressed with Demarai Gray's work rate. But Blues need to sharpen up in front of goal, and Sheffield United will still be a threat in the second half.

It is all still to play for!

  16. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 20:49 British Summer Time

    Huddersfield 0-0 Leicester

Louis Page is on for the Foxes in the second half with Will Alves the man to make way.

  17. KICK-OFFpublished at 20:48 British Summer Time

    #bbcefl

No time for a breather... our four early kick-offs are getting back under way.

45 minutes, and ugh, maybe even the p-word, separate four sides from the second round.

  18. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:47 British Summer Time

    Birmingham 1-0 Sheff Utd

Kyogo Furuhashi of Birmingham City celebrates scoring his team's first goalImage source, Getty Images

    Birmingham dominant, Sheffield United dormant.

The home side should be planning for round two at home to Port Vale but at 1-0 they're not home and hosed just yet.

Kyogo Furuhashi has his first goal for Blues after another defensive howler from the visitors allowed Demarai Gray to intercept a back pass and set-up his fellow forward.

The truth is Furuhashi could have three or four as Birmingham have time and again sliced through a wide-open Sheffield United defence.

Yet, for all that, the visitors almost levelled on the stroke of half time with Tom Cannon's effort well, cannoning back off the post.

  19. Postpublished at 20:46 British Summer Time

    Birmingham 1-0 Sheff Utd

We are into an extra one minute.

  20. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 20:45 British Summer Time

    Birmingham 1-0 Sheff Utd

Birmingham almost pay for their wastefulness.

Tom Cannon beats James Beadle from distance but not the post - that would have been against the run of play.
