Summary

  1. Postpublished at 20:44 British Summer Time

    Birmingham 1-0 Sheff Utd

Deary, deary me, how is it not 2-0?

Dovydas Sasnauskas dwells on the ball on the halfway line and has his pocket picked by Kyogo Furuhashi.

The Japanese forward strides away but tries to dink it over the onrushing Adam Davies and doesn't get enough on it.

Sheffield United escape again - this can't carry on though.

  2. 'Credit to the Owls' coaching staff'published at 20:44 British Summer Time

    HT: Bolton 1-2 Sheff Wed

    Ross Wallace
Ex-Sheffield Wednesday winger on BBC Radio Sheffield

It has been fantastic and it is so great to see these young lads play, especially the way in which they have.

A lot of credit to the coaching staff, they haven't just sat in and waited to get beaten. They have took the ball under pressure and have tried to build and are ready to press.

What they have done in the first half is the best outcome you could have hoped for.

  3. Postpublished at 20:42 British Summer Time

    Birmingham 1-0 Sheff Utd

Another Birmingham chance as yet another cross is allowed to sail across the box to Demarai Gray.

The home striker gets his angles wrong and fires wide.

Simon Atkins: Dreadful challenge by Soumare. Yellow card bare minimum, studs straight into his ankle, nowhere near the ball.

    Tommy Doyle isn't happy.

He's caught by Djibril Soumare and lets the Sheffield United man know his exact thoughts about the tackle - well attempted tackle anyway.

Soumare escapes without so much as a yellow card - Doyle's still chuntering - one to watch?

  6. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:37 British Summer Time

    Bolton 1-2 Sheff Wed

Sheffield Wednesday's Gui Siqueira celebratesImage source, Getty Images

    A really fun tie, this.

Gui Sequira lashed the visitors into a surprise early lead with a 25-yard blockbuster into the top corner, and after Jordi Osei-Tutu had made it 1-1 with a close-range header, Ike Ugbo coolly slotted home his first goal in 36 appearances to restore the Owls' lead within two minutes.

Bolton were reduced to 10 men with Sam Inwood dismissed for a professional foul shortly before the half hour, so this youthful Owls XI will have hope of teeing up a second round date with Leeds.

But visiting stopper Pierce Charles has been called into action to keep the hosts at bay, and Charlie Warren saw appeals for a penalty waved away seconds before the break.

  7. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:36 British Summer Time

    Barnsley 1-1 Fleetwood

All-square at Oakwell at the break.

Jon Russell's header put Barnsley ahead but Toby Mullarkey's leveller on 45 minutes means these two can't be separated.

There is a school of thought the Fleetwood goal might be a Liam Roberts strike straight from a corner but for now Mullarkey is being credited.

  8. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:34 British Summer Time

    Cheltenham 1-0 Exeter

James Wilson's close-range finish just before the half hour mark separates the sides.

A trip to Cardiff awaits the winners.

  9. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:33 British Summer Time

    Huddersfield 0-0 Leicester

    All to play for.

Huddersfield began brightly and could count themselves unfortunate not to have had a penalty after Ben Nelson brought down Ruben Roosken in the box, but City have grown into the game and created a handful of half-chances, though without really threatening Lee Nicholls' goal.

  10. goal

GOAL Barnsley 1-1 Fleetwoodpublished at 20:32 British Summer Time

    Toby Mullarkey (45 mins)

Right on the stroke of half time...

Winger Liam Roberts with the cross, Toby Mullarkey with the header - simples - 1-1.

  11. YELLOW CARDpublished at 20:31 British Summer Time

    Bolton 1-2 Sheff Wed

Bolton's Chris Forino goes into the book after an over-zealous, shall we say, challenge on Bruno Fernandes in midfield.

The Portuguese looks in some discomfort, and I'm not surprised.

We'll probably have an addition to the FOUR minutes of stoppage-time due to this.

  12. GREAT SAVE!published at 20:29 British Summer Time

    Bolton 1-2 Sheff Wed

Wow. Pierce Charles with a vital double save after some more pretty approach play from Bolton.

First Ethan Erhahon is picked out by a backheel on the edge of the box only for his low drive to be blocked by the keeper, who somehow bounces up to deny Charlie Warren's close range follow-up too.

  13. Postpublished at 20:29 British Summer Time

    Birmingham 1-0 Sheff Utd

Tommy Doyle sends yet another cross into the Sheffield United area but Sam Curtis is there to cut it out before it reaches the lurking Demarai Gray.

It's good defending from Curtis but the Blades need to stop the supply at source because the home side are bossing this.

  14. 'Wednesday are well organised'published at 20:27 British Summer Time

    Bolton 1-2 Sheff Wed

    Ross Wallace
Ex-Sheffield Wednesday winger on BBC Radio Sheffield

It could knock you to concede when you're playing so well and they are down to ten men.

However, Wednesday are well organised and not disjointed, they seem hard to break down.

It all comes down to the shape of Wednesday and they are looking very good!

  15. Postpublished at 20:25 British Summer Time

    Birmingham 1-0 Sheff Utd

Goalkeeper James Beadle is in the action for the first time for the home side.

A cross deflects off Willum Willumsson and Tom Cannon thinks he might have a chance but Beadle is down at his feet to make the save.

  16. Postpublished at 20:23 British Summer Time

    Birmingham 1-0 Sheff Utd

Another free kick from Birmingham into the Sheffield United box and Christoph Klarer climbs highest to flick a header wide.

It's just too easy for the home side to create chances.

  17. goal

GOAL: Bolton 1-2 Sheff Wedpublished at 20:23 British Summer Time

    Ike Ugbo (38 mins)

    Didn't last long...

Ike Ugbo only scored once last season but he's collected the ball in the box and produced a confident finish to beat Tyler Miller to his left and restore Wednesday's lead after barely 90 seconds.

That's his first goal in 36 appearances, not that you'd have guessed from that finish.

    Quite a cup tie, this...

  18. goal

GOAL: Bolton 1-1 Sheff Wedpublished at 20:21 British Summer Time

    Jordi Osei-Tutu (36 mins)

Jordi Osei-Tutu of Bolton Wanderers celebratesImage source, Rex Features

The 10-men are back on terms...

Josh Dacres-Cogley swings in a glorious cross from the left flank whish is met by Jordi Osei-Tutu, ghosting in at the far post to slide in and send a downward header past Pierce Charles from close range.

They probably deserve it on the balance of play.

  19. Postpublished at 20:20 British Summer Time

    Huddersfield 0-0 Leicester

Another sight of goal for Kasey McAteer who is left unmarked from a corner at the back post but can only steer his header tamely over the middle of Lee Nicholls' crossbar. Got to do better there.

  20. Postpublished at 20:19 British Summer Time

    Birmingham 1-0 Sheff Utd

More panic at the back for the visitors - a long throw is flicked on but Kyogo Furuhashi mishits a volley and it loops harmlessly up in the air.
