Why hasn't there been talk about Yoanne Wissa? Seems like a striker a lot of clubs are desperate for. He could surely get 25+ goals for Arsenal? Wouldn't be as expensive as other options who haven't played in the Premier league as well.

Manchester City take part in the Fifa Club World Cup this month and will hope to continue their spending spree, after splashing £180m in January on Omar Marmoush, Nico Gonzalez, Vitor Reis and Abdukodir Khusanov. With them hoping to challenge for the Premier League title again after a trophyless season, new signings will be imminent at Etihad Stadium.

    Who are they linked with?

BBC Sport's Simon Stone has reported that Pep Guardiola has put Rayan Ait-Nouri at the top of his list to solve City's problematic left-back spot. They are also reportedly close to agreeing a deal for AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders while also considering Lyon's Rayan Cherki, Nottingham Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White and Barcelona's Dani Olmo for the number 10 role.

The cloud hanging over City is in the shape of 115 charges of alleged Premier League financial rule breaches. The outcome could result in a fine, a transfer embargo, a wage cap or a points deduction - although the club remain confident they will be fully exonerated. Football finance expert Kieran Maguire says "City could spend a further £200m unless there is a negative result to the charges." With Kevin de Bruyne's salary coming off payroll, they will have plenty of leeway to invest.

    What about departures?

Kevin de Bruyne is the most high-profile departure from City as the Belgian nears a free transfer to Napoli. Midfielder Jacob Wright has also left for Norwich City for a fee of £2.3m. The Athletic are reporting that goalkeeper Ederson is open to a move to the Saudi Pro-League while Jack Grealish and John Stones could also leave after sliding down the pecking order.

I’ve got to say that Sir Jim needs to answer some questions after all the cost cutting, and hand wringing about the lack of money at Man Utd leading to redundancies and cut backs, and then bam, £100m to spend without blinking. Confusing to say the least.

Newcastle United will be free of PSR constraints after a fifth-placed finish in the Premier League secure Champions League qualification. Therefore, Eddie Howe will hope to inject more quality into his side while keeping hold of the likes of Alexander Isak, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes.

    Who are they linked with?

Interest from other clubs for Isak has died down after Newcastle secured European football for next season but the need to strengthen remains, especially in the defence. They could be back in for Marc Guehi after failing to sign the Crystal Palace captain last summer while Bryan Mbeumo's preference to join Manchester United will be a blow. Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo and Nottingham Forest’s Anthony Elanga could be alternative options while they could also be on the search for a new goalkeeper.

Newcastle look well equipped after reaching the Champions League at Villa's expense. Howe's side secured their first domestic trophy for 70 years in March, when beating Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final, and should be able to capitalise from the sales of Elliot Anderson, Yankuba Minteh, Lloyd Kelly and Miguel Almiron over the past 12 months.

    What about departures?

According to the Athletic,, external Sean Longstaff's time with the Magpies could be coming to an end this summer, with him entering the final year of his contract while Kieran Trippier has been linked with a move away in recent times. Goalkeeper Martin Dubravka signed a contract extension but his future remains uncertain while Odysseas Vlachodimos, signed for £20m, has only made a single substitute appearance for the club.

United prioritising moves for players established in the Premier League seems like a better plan than the last decade. Apart from Fernandes other imports in all positions have not thrived, then look good on loan back in weaker leagues. Feels like a return to the days of going for Yorke, Saha and Berbatov... it worked then!

The Athletic, external are reporting that Manchester United did budget to sign Matheus Cunha and Liam Delap during the window even without the income from Champions League football next season.

The report says that the combined cost of £92.5m for the two players could have been offset in cash terms by instalments.

"Wolves will be paid in three equal chunks starting this summer, for instance - and also on the books by amortising the fees over the length of their contracts; in Cunha’s case, an initial five years," it says.

The money assigned for Chelsea-bound Delap could now be spent on another player.

"Signings beyond that are set to be dependent on sales," the Athletic reports.

People might laugh at Man United for not making the top 4. But I see that as a blessing in disguise, that's if they see the blessings though. But the way they're going in the transfer market, they will have a great season for sure.

Things can only get better for Manchester United after a season in which they finished 15th in the Premier League and missed out on a place in the Champions League with a defeat to Tottenham in the Europa League final. With a huge rebuild needed, it's safe to say that it's going to be a busy summer for everyone involved with the club.

    Who are they linked with?

United have already confirmed the capture of Matheus Cunha while they were also linked with Liam Delap. They will now turn their attention to other centre-forward options, with them expected to open talks with Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo soon while Crystal Palace's Jean-Philippe Mateta is also on their shortlist alongside Viktor Gyokeres, who worked with Amorim at Sporting, and Victor Osimhen. The Red Devils will also be boosted by their captain Bruno Fernandes' decision to reject a big-money move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal.

A financial crisis at United seems to have been overplayed by Sir Jim Ratcliffe. United had the highest EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation) profit of any Premier League club, as well as the second highest revenues in 2023-24. Despite missing out on Champions League, they have signed Cunha and has pursued Liam Delap. But further spending power in the summer looks to hinge on the sale of players.

    What about departures?

Christian Eriksen, Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof will leave Old Trafford with their contracts expiring while Tyrell Malacia, Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Jadon Sancho, who Chelsea have turned down the chance to sign, are among the players the club will hope to part ways this summer. Inter Milan, meanwhile, have been linked with a move for forward Rasmus Hojlund.

Chelsea look set to be busy over the course of the summer as they attempt to build on last season's success of finishing fourth in the Premier League and winning the Conference League.

One of the areas that manager Enzo Maresca is keen to strengthen is between the sticks, but only if they can get a goalkeeper of the very highest calibre.

Chelsea regard AC Milan stopper Mike Maignan to be in that category and believe there is an opportunity to add him to the squad.

The 29-year-old has been with the Serie A club since 2021 and has made 28 appearances for France.

Robert Sanchez was Chelsea's number one in 2024-25, making 32 appearances in the league, while Filip Jorgensen featured on six occasions.

    Position: Midfielder

    Nationality: English

    Age: 19

Transfer status: Borussia Dortmund are confident of signing the Sunderland midfielder.

Why do Borussia Dortmund want him?: If he signs, Dortmund will be hoping the teenager emulates the success of his older brother Jude.

Bellingham was one of the standout performers from central midfield in Sunderland's Championship promotion-winning season. Despite reaching the Premier League, the 19-year-old appears to prefer a move to the Bundesliga and Dortmund seem willing to promote his continued development.

The German club have a successful history of nurturing young English talent and selling on for big transfers, including Jude to Real Madrid and Jadon Sancho to Manchester United, while Jamie Gittens has also risen in value since signing for the club.

How was his 2024-25 campaign?: Bellingham had an 86% successful pass completion rate in the Championship, winning 58% of attempted take-ons. Perhaps his most important attribute, though, was his discipline in the role. Bellingham pressed and rushed opponents efficiently as part of a rigid system during Sunderland's play-off campaign.

Re Bruno Fernandes reportedly declining advances from the Saudi league, I see this as neither good nor bad news for Utd. Not bad in that they are not losing by far their best player; and not good in that now he is over 30 Utd are never going to get the sort of money in future windows that was likely on offer for him…might restrict rebuild funds?

  14. Fernandes rejects Al-Hilal - what next for United?published at 12:09 British Summer Time 3 June

    Bruno FernandesImage source, Getty Images

After rejecting Al-Hilal's offer - reported to be between £80m and £100m - to sign in time for this month's Club World Cup, Bruno Fernandes will now remain a key part of Ruben Amorim's plans at Manchester United for the future.

With 19 goals and 19 assists across all competitions last season, there is no getting away from the significance of the 30-year-old to this United squad, but what can we expect as the club looks to rebuild?

The Red Devils have already signed Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbuemo has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford.

United's struggles in the final third were a big weakness last season and a striker is certainly high on their list. After missing out on Liam Delap, their search continues to find somebody who can put the finishing touches to the chances that Fernandes creates.

At the other end of the pitch, the future of Andre Onana remains unclear after a difficult season, whilst Amorim's system puts an emphasis on the need for a new full-back.

Fernandes will remain at the heart of the United midfield and it looks clear that a new-look team will be built around his capabilities.
