It’s always entertaining to hear Man Utd fans in the summer. Every year they think the latest signings will turn things around and they’ll be qualifying for Europe and winning a cup. But that club has been cursed since the Glazers arrived - Fergie got out just in time, because it’s ruined the reputations of so many players and managers over the past 15-20 years. Man Utd don’t need new signings, they need an exorcism.

  2. Fernandes decides against Al-Hilal move - Reportspublished at 08:55 British Summer Time 3 June

News is filtering in that Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has reportedly rejected a big-money move to Al-Hilal in favour of staying at Old Trafford.

Fabrizio Romano, external, Sky Sports' Florian Plettenberg, external and Talksport , externalare all reporting that the Portuguese midfielder has turned down the chance to move to Saudi Arabia.

Talksport says Fernandes "rejected a lucrative £700,000-per-week move after consulting with his family."

"Man United captain wants to play at top level in Europe. Decision made," Romano tweeted.

BBC Sport's Simon Stone reported last week that Fernandes was "giving serious consideration to quitting United."

His representatives reportedly met Al-Hilal officials to discuss a move that would have allowed the 30-year-old to take part in the forthcoming Fifa Club World Cup.

We hope to bring you more details of the situation soon.

  3. Bellingham to Dortmund?published at 08:52 British Summer Time 3 June

Borussia Dortmund are confident of completing the signing of Sunderland midfielder Jobe Bellingham.

The 19-year-old has been the subject of major interest across Europe despite Sunderland returning to the Premier League for the first time since 2017 next season following their play-off final victory over Sheffield United.

However, Dortmund believe they are now in pole position to secure Bellingham’s signature.

They are yet to open talks with Sunderland but have received strong indications Bellingham wants to follow in his brother Jude’s footsteps by joining them and believe an agreement will eventually be reached.

Dortmund’s bargaining position has been strengthened considerably by a strong end to the season.

With eight games of the season, Dortmund were 11th in the Bundesliga, 10 points adrift of a top four spot.

Remarkably, they won seven of their remaining matches, and drew the other at eventual champions Bayern, to finish fourth and secure a place in next season's Champions League.

Jude Bellingham made 132 appearances in a three-year stint with Dortmund, winning the German Cup alongside Erling Haaland and Jadon Sancho in 2021.

However, he missed out on the German title immediately before joining Real Madrid in 2023 as he was injured and could only watch the final day draw with Mainz, when victory would have seen Dortmund crowned champions for the first time in 11 years.

Virgil Van Dijk remains Liverpool's record signing at £75m.

It would be some jump for the Reds to part with a fee in the region of £125m to get Florian Wirtz.

Just see the rumours of Liverpool potentially paying up to £125mil for Wirtz. I'm usually impressed by their savvy negotiations, but you've got to be careful there: once clubs know you're willing to open your wallet it's a slippery slope. Trust me.

  7. How will PSR affect transfer spending?published at 08:36 British Summer Time 3 June

Before we get too carried away thinking that two summer transfer windows means double the drama and even more spending, I should probably warn you that it might not be that straightforward.

I'm going to mention the dreaded words... profit and sustainability rules (PSR).

The Premier League's PSR rules have hindered clubs from spending big money in recent transfer windows.

Everton and Nottingham Forest received points deductions last season for breaking the league's spending rules.

Though no clubs have fallen foul of the rules this year, it will be something the clubs will be considering as they look to bolster their roster.

    So what exactly is PSR?

Premier League introduced the profit and sustainability rules during the 2015-16 season.

It came from demands to protect clubs from overspending after Portsmouth became the first - and so far only - Premier League club to go into administration.

The rules allow Premier League clubs to post losses of no more than £105m over a three-year reporting cycle.

Spending on academies, infrastructure and community projects are exempt from profit and sustainability submissions.

If Mbeumo wants to come to United he must see a plan? Ok they aren't in Europe this season. But they could be in it next year? Especially if Cunha does anything like the previous 2 seasons.

  9. Club World Cup shake-uppublished at 08:28 British Summer Time 3 June

    Now for the technical details.

Fifa only permits the transfer window in any individual country to be open for 16 weeks in any calendar year.

In Europe, precedent dictates four of those weeks are for the winter window, leaving 12 in the summer. In 2024, the Premier League transfer window opened on 14 June and closed on 30 August.

However, in October, Fifa approved an additional window from 1-10 June that would allow the 32 clubs competing in the Club World Cup to register new players before the tournament.

It also agreed to open a registration window mid-tournament, from 27 June and 3 July, to allow clubs to register additional players for the knockout stage.

As well as Manchester City and Chelsea, European heavyweights Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, Juventus, Paris St-Germain, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Saudi Arabia's Al-Hilal are among others playing in the tournament.

In order to ensure Manchester City and Chelsea did not have an advantage over the other 18 top-flight clubs, the Premier League has adopted the same window.

However, 12 weeks from 1 June is 24 August. The Premier League wanted to be aligned with the rest of Europe's big leagues around when the summer window closes. Those leagues preferred to close the window at the end of August, so that meant the window had to close and reopen.

    All make sense?

Can someone explain why Mbeumo wants to go to Utd instead of a club in Europe next season? Is it just simply about money, are they going to pay him lots more than others?

  11. Man Utd and Mbeumopublished at 08:21 British Summer Time 3 June

There is certainly interest in Bryan Mbeumo from Manchester United.

After signing Matheus Cunha from Wolves - or at least getting all the significant parts in place so the player can complete the transfer once he gets back from international duty - United are looking to further strengthen their attacking options after being turned down by Liam Delap.

Mbeumo is not an orthodox number nine but Ruben Amorim wants flexible players - he is also trying to address United's long-standing goalscoring issues.

Mbeumo is not their only target but he is definitely high on the list.

My only question mark is the fee, and how United will fund a deal.

They do need to sell this summer and we have had no clarity on the future of Bruno Fernandes, who is due to play for Portugal tomorrow in the Nations League final.

  13. What Premier League teams are in Club World Cup?published at 08:16 British Summer Time 3 June

Although the need summer transfer window format has been introduced to help teams prepare for the Club World Cup, it's not limited to only participants of that competition - providing every Premier League side with the opportunity to bolster their ranks.

Only two Premier League teams - Chelsea and Manchester City - have qualified for the revamped Club World Cup and will battle it out with 30 rivals in the United States.

What other big names are involved?

Uefa has been assigned 12 slots at the Club World Cup, with Paris St-Germain Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan among those involved.

  14. Why do we have two transfer windows this summer?published at 08:11 British Summer Time 3 June

The summer transfer window officially opened on 1 June and is scheduled to close at 19:00 BST on 10 June.

It will reopen on Monday, 16 June, before closing on Monday, 1 September at 19:00 BST for Premier League, EFL and Scottish Premiership clubs.

Why has the window been split this year?

Well, you have Fifa to thank for your double dose of transfer excitement.

Football's world governing body approved an additional window for this summer to allow teams to register new players for the expanded month-long Club World Cup, which starts on 14 June and is being held in the United States.

Chelsea and Manchester City are the only two Premier League clubs involved in the new 32-team format competition, however, the transfer window is open to every team in the top flight and the Football League.
