"Some of the figures and things you'll hear banded around, I have not heard any figure in any of my meetings or discussions. It's more 'can we find things that fit football-wise and financially?' than a set budget."

Tottenham v Everton (Sat, 15:00 BST)

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou had a disappointing end to last season and began the new campaign with a draw away at a relegation favourite in Leicester City.

Spurs will expect to kick-start their season at home to Everton on Saturday, especially after a successful transfer window has helped shape the squad to better play the Australian's brand of 'Angeball'.

Making life more difficult is two tricky upcoming matches in September away at Newcastle and then at home to north London rivals Arsenal.

They may also be questions about where winger Wilson Odobert fits in after his move from Burnley and whether midfielder Yves Bissouma has reacted well to being dropped after filming himself taking laughing gas, which is a banned substance in the UK.

On whether they expect to bring anyone else in before the transfer window closes, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola: "I don’t think so but I don’t know. The market might provide us something that is financially good for us but at the moment I do not know."

On the possibility of bringing back Raheem Sterling: "He is a Chelsea player. I feel so attached with him because of the time we had together and I feel like that with all my players. But he is a Chelsea player. If you had asked me about Gundogan previously, I would have said he was a Barcelona player.

"But I wish him all the best."

Crystal Palace are one of the teams interested in signing Chelsea forward Raheem Sterling ahead of the transfer deadline next week.

Sterling has been told that he can leave Chelsea by manager Enzo Maresca and is training away from the main squad.

A deal for Sterling to join Palace would need an agreement to be reached on finances and be right for the Eagles, due to the potential cost of the transfer due to Sterling’s wages and any fee that would need to be paid.

Sterling has made 81 appearances for Chelsea since joining from Manchester City for £50m in July 2022.

If he could maintain the level he showed at the start of last season, Sterling would be a decent addition. But I feel like now you’d get one great performance for every 10 below-average ones. He also seems quite divisive and we just don’t need that with the unity we have now at Arsenal.

    Harry

Sterling had his best days at City and his legs still worked 100%. Now he just misses open goals and runs into the keeper. He’s definitely past it, and Pep knew it before it was too late. Chelsea are now the fall guys.

Fantastic news Gundo is back ! Brilliant legendary leader, a scorer & creator of many key goals. Provides another cover in a number of midfield positions including no 6 for Rodri. Massive addition both on & off the field & on a free !

    Paul from Northwich

Saints fan here, delighted to see Gundogan back in PL. He is a wonderful advert for the game, I just wish we could afford him!
