Ilkay Gundogan has confirmed he is leaving Barcelona just over a year after joining from Manchester City.

In social media post, the 33-year-old said: "I came here to face a new, exciting challenge, and I was ready for it. I have given everything to fight for the team and the club the best possible way in a difficult season and I was looking forward to helping my teammates in the new campaign.

"Now I am leaving in a difficult situation, but if my departure can help the club financially, it makes me a bit less sad."

Our chief football news reporter Simon Stone reported earlier this week that Manchester City were working on a deal to re-sign Gundogan.

Will that deal go through? Let's see what this morning brings...

Bernd Leno, Fulham, goalkeeper, £5m - home v Leicester

Ten clean sheets for Leno last season and the German has a decent chance of another at home to Leicester.

The Foxes were toothless in the first half of their 1-1 draw against Spurs and their goal chances will rest firmly on the shoulders of 37-year-old Jamie Vardy, who is unlikely to manage a full 90 minutes.

    Trent Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool, defender, £7m - home v Brentford

The only reason you wouldn't have Alexander-Arnold in your team is the price. At £7m this season it is that little bit easier to squeeze him in.

Eight points v Ipswich on the opening weekend (a clean sheet and two bonus) and it should have been way more.

The right-back created two big chances and had an expected assists (xA) stat of one - creativity that should continue at home to Brentford.

Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo said in pre-season he lost confidence because of the pressure of his £115m price tag after joining from Brighton in August 2023.

But will this be the season the Ecuador international comes good?

Caicedo was entrusted with the captain's armband by Enzo Maresca against Servette on Thursday and led his side to a 2-0 first leg win in the Conference League play-off at Stamford Bridge.

"‘I found out before the warm-up," Caicedo said on being named captain for the first time in a Chelsea shirt.

"The kit man told me that I was going to wear it and I was surprised, but after it was a really good moment for me and my family. It was really good wearing the captain’s armband for the first time with this amazing club."

Caicedo scored one goal and registered four assists in 48 games in his debut campaign as Chelsea finished sixth in the Premier League, with manager Mauricio Pochettino leaving in May.

The player praised a performance coach and his former manager Pochettino for getting him back on the right track after a difficult start to life at Chelsea.

Maresca's decision to make him skipper on Thursday should do Caicedo the power of good.

Chelsea need as many leaders on the pitch as possible and Caicedo could yet prove vital as Maresca negotiates his first season in charge.

  5. 'Overall it was important to win the game'published at 10:43 British Summer Time 23 August

Wolves v Chelsea (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Chelsea

Chelsea won 2-0 against Swiss team Servette in the first leg of the UEFA Europa Conference League play offs on Thursday night, though they were made to work hard for the win.

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca on last night's win: “The message is quite clear, we are in a moment where we are learning how to manage the game.

“For me, the intention to keep the ball is the correct one especially when you are two nil up, but we need to try and manage the ball the exact same at the opposite side. I can understand the frustration, but overall it was important to win the game”

Next up, Chelsea travel to Wolves in the Premier League on Sunday.

No chance Arsenal move for Sterling. It makes no sense, just media creating a talking point out of nothing.

Re. Sterling to Arsenal - if he came for under £10m and was prepared to slash his wages and play as rotation; great. But I don't see any of those happening.

Leicester are close to signing Crystal Palace forward Jordan Ayew for an initial £5m.

The Foxes want to bring in at least two offensive players and Ayew, 32, is poised to move to the King Power Stadium in a deal rising to £8m.

Promoted Leicester struggled for attacking options in Monday's 1-1 Premier League draw with Tottenham, with Jamie Vardy starting - and scoring the equaliser - despite boss Steve Cooper ruling him out through injury just three days before.

Cooper, who takes Leicester to Fulham on Saturday, has made no secret of his desire to add more forward options to his squad and Ayew offers crucial Premier League experience.
