Newcastle boss Eddie Howe on Kieran Trippier: "The situation is business as usual. Tripps has trained really well this week. I'm surprised by a lot of the stories that have come out. A valuable member of the squad. His professionalism has been first class. He's trained really well since he came back from the Euros, I think he's only had two weeks of training hence the reason why he didn't start last week.

"He continues to be really valued by all of us. He's just trained as normal and he's been very good. I'm not really sure where this has come from. He's preparing as we all are for the game on Sunday."

"I don't assume. Full focus is on the players at the moment, on the big match tomorrow at Aston Villa.

On Eddie Nketiah: "I expect Eddie to train with us today and be ready for tomorrow. Whatever happens, will happen."

Mikel Arteta is speaking at Arsenal's training ground to preview Saturday's trip to Aston Villa.

The Gunners had five players named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year and Arteta went to the awards ceremony to support his players.

There is also the Mikel Merino deal that is near to completion to ask him about too.

Villa did the double over Arsenal last season and were one of the main reasons that Arsenal weren't able to keep pace with Man City.

If they are to go one step futher this season they will need to pick up a positive result.

  7. Quansah 'reacted in a way that every player should react'published at 09:31 British Summer Time 23 August

Liverpool v Brentford (Sun, 16:30 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Arne Slot on Jarell Quansah's reaction to being taken off during the match against Ipswich: "[He reacted] in a way you would expect a player to react. I spoke to him immediately after the game, I spoke to him the day after. At the end of that conversation he asked if he could train on Sunday. So he should have done recovery, he wanted to train. Unfortunately, I think, on Tuesday, that he picked up a bit of an injury, so he couldn't train on Wednesday, we will see if he can train today.

"He reacted in a way that every player should react. I don't think there was that much in to it, although. Maybe the language was a problem, what I said was that he did not lose every duel, but he lost one or two important ones, one of them just before half-time. From what's been told to me it sounds like what I said was that he lost every duel."

He's one of the players I see new things from."

Liverpool v Brentford (Sun, 16:30 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Arne Slot on what he wants from his players: "I think we're on a good track, but you have to understand some of them have only been here for three weeks. its not only about us but about what the opponents bring to the game. Ipswich made it difficult for us. We got a bit more space and you could see how good the boys played. Still a lot of work to do but it's the first step.

On his subs and making substitutions: "I'm learning every day about the players as individuals and how they play together. I learnt last weekend how the players that didn't play on Saturday trained well on Sunday. They brought in a good training session. That will help them and us. I am still learning new things with the players. It is normal, I have only worked with them for three weeks."

Certainly not at this moment because I'm in the middle of preparation, prepare the team for Sunday and no nerves. It wouldn't be a good think if you have nerves. I trust what me and my staff do to prepare the team in the best possible way. I trust the team a lot."

Ipswich have agreed a deal to sign forward Jack Clarke from Sunderland for an initial fee of £15m, plus £5m in potential add-ons.

The 23-year-old, who has scored 27 goals in 94 appearances for the Black Cats since signing permanently from Tottenham, is set to have a medical with the Tractor Boys on Friday.

Clarke would become Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna's 10th signing of the summer.

York-born Clarke climbed through the youth ranks at Leeds where he made 25 first-team appearances, scoring two goals.

He joined Spurs in July 2019 but struggled to establish himself and had spells out on loan at QPR, Stoke and Sunderland.

Clarke has been capped six times by England at under-20 level.

  19. Man Utd players must 'deal with' missing out - Ten Hagpublished at 08:51 British Summer Time 23 August

Brighton v Man Utd (Sat, 12:30 BST)

Erik ten HagImage source, Getty Images

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag says his players will have to "deal with" the disappointment of being left out of matches.

Ten Hag added that he hopes to have two players for each position by the end of the transfer window, meaning not everyone can be selected.

"But you need them all throughout the season because this season will be the survival of the fittest. The attitude of the players is very important, sometimes they will be disappointed, but they have to deal with it.

"You don’t win with 11 [players], you win with a squad. The prizes are decided next May and until then we need all the players in the squad highly motivated to contribute.

"That is not an expectation, that is a demand from the club and from me as manager of the squad. The team is always more important than any one individual."

  20. TNS win but Larne slip to defeatpublished at 08:46 British Summer Time 23 August

Switching back to last night's European action for a moment...

Irish League side Larne took an early lead against Lincoln Red Imps in the Uefa Conference League play-off first leg through Matty Lusty.

Their lead did not last long though, with Kike Gomez levelling shortly after before Spanish midfielder Joe hit the winner after the break.

There was better news for Welsh side The New Saints. They secured an impressive 3-0 win against Lithuanian side FK Panevezys in Vilnius, with Danny Davies, Dan Williams and Ben Clark on target.

Saints now host Panevezys in the second leg on Thursday, 29 August at Park Hall in Oswestry, knowing they have the chance to make history by becoming the first domestic Welsh club to reach the group stages of a European club competition.
