We asked for your thoughts after Sunday's Premier League game between Brentford and Tottenham.

Here are some of your comments:

    Brentford fans

Richard: A very good performance, we just couldn't get a goal and should have got one. All credit to Tottenham for winning. It was a fair game in the end.

David: That was a torturous game to watch as a Brentford fan. We looked the most likely team to score in the opening 15 to 20 minutes and then it became sluggish. Bryan Mbeumo wasn't at the races, but Mikkel Damsgaard was unplayable at times and Michael Kayode looks like a strong signing.

Phil: I'm disappointed with the Bees' performances in the last few home games, with the exception of the Manchester City match, which was fantastic. The team needs a few fresh ideas. Anyway, onwards and upwards and fortune changes.

Ian: On this performance, relegation looms. There is no idea, no desire and we are a team going through the motions. We will probably survive this season but don't hold your breath next season.

    Tottenham fans

George: A great result. It wasn't our most fluent but the battle showed by the lads was tremendous, against a team with one of the best home records in the division. More on Thursday night boys!

Anff: We badly needed a result. It would be churlish to complain about the general performance, but if the Bees had been on song then I think we would have lost that game. But a win is a win, so on we go!

Tristen: Finally Ange Postecoglou had the sense beaten into him to play two defensive midfielders to protect our vulnerable defence. Why it has taken so long is beyond me, and a huge embarrassment for Ange and his stubborn tactics. He needs to play the best XI available that can win him games, not blindly play the system he wants without the players to do it.

Gazza: Djed Spence has been outstanding all along. It just goes to show the muddled thinking there is at Spurs. Then we go and buy Pedro Porro for £40m! You couldn't write it.

Brentford are 11th in the Premier League table

Brentford went into this match as the top scorers at home in the Premier League this season, but suffered a rare blank as they were frustrated by Tottenham.

It proved to be a scrappy affair at the Gtech Community Stadium on Sunday, with both sides struggling to create clear-cut chances.

Away goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky parried an effort from Christian Norgaard and held a strike from Bryan Mbeumo, with Yoane Wissa also glancing a header wide as an organised Spurs defence repelled the hosts' attacks.

Brentford, who had gone behind in the first half when the ball bounced off the back of the unfortunate Vitaly Janelt following Son Heung-min's excellent inswinging corner, were the better side in the second half as they pushed for an equaliser.

But Spurs hit them with an 87th-minute sucker punch with substitute Pape Matar Sarr running on to Son's pass to score the second and take the game away from the Bees.

Worryingly for Brentford, their season is in danger of just fading out. They may already have enough points to be safe from relegation, but the dreams of qualifying for Europe are vanishing after they lost for the fifth time at home in their past six matches in all competitions.

  5. 'Sometimes one goal decides it a little bit'published at 17:04 GMT 2 February

Thomas Frank Image source, Getty Images

Brentford boss Thomas Frank has been speaking to BBC Sport about the defeat at Gtech Community Stadium: "We did a lot of things right. We created a lot of good situations with 30-something crosses and a lot of shots, but there were not enough big chances.

"That was some of the best defending Tottenham have done this season. Sometimes one goal decides it a little bit and they scored on a set-piece. On the flip side, we don't score any of our set-pieces.

"If we had got in front, it might have been a different game. The big one is Yoane Wissa's chance."

On whether the club will be doing more transfer business: "I'm not expecting anyone in or out [on deadline day]."

On goalkeeper Hakon Valdimarsson making his first Premier League start: "He was good with his hands especially."

On the injury to Mark Flekken: "He has a side strain, but we have two weeks until our next game."

Brentford have lost four of their last five Premier League home games by at least a two-goal margin (against Nottingham Forest, Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham). This is as many such defeats as they had in their previous 23 home games in the competition (4).

The Bees had 20 shots and 2.29 xG against Tottenham - both of which are their highest totals in a Premier League game where they have failed to score.

  8. Sutton's predictions: Brentford v Tottenhampublished at 09:12 GMT 2 February

    Sutton's predictions graphic

Micky van de Ven's return from injury is great news for Tottenham, but he cannot be expected to transform their fortunes on his own.

Last week's defeat by Leicester was hugely damaging to Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou and his side were so flat in that game. They have only picked up five points from their past 11 games and they cannot afford to keep on losing.

I don't think Postecoglou has been helped by the club's lack of activity in the transfer market. They have had all these injuries but they have brought in a goalkeeper, Antonin Kinsky, to add to their senior squad, and that's it.

I look at Brentford and think they are going to do this Spurs team some damage.

With Bryan Mbeumo on the right and Yoane Wissa up front, the Bees have got a lot of goals in the team. They will have a go at Spurs and I think they will find a way through.

    Sutton's prediction: 2-1

Brentford have won just one of their seven Premier League meetings with Tottenham, with all three at the Gtech Community Stadium ending in a draw.

The team scoring first has won none of the past five Premier League meetings between Brentford and Tottenham, with Spurs coming back to win twice, Brentford once and two draws.

  10. Frank on Pinnock's return, Kayode and Spurspublished at 16:02 GMT 31 January

Brentford boss Thomas Frank has been speaking to the media before Sunday's Premier League game against Tottenham (kick-off 14:00 GMT).

Here are the key lines from his news conference:

    • Christian Norgaard and Kevin Schade will be fit to feature after going off injured in last weekend's win at Crystal Palace.

    • Centre-back Ethan Pinnock is also available for selection after recovering from a hamstring injury that has kept him out since 18 December, but a hamstring injury will keep left-back Rico Henry out of the Spurs match.

    • January signing Michael Kayode could make his debut for the Bees in Sunday's game. Frank said: "He is a young man, full of optimism and power and willingness to play and run. I like his approach a lot."

    • Frank said of Spurs' recent form: "We were also hit very hard by injuries last year so, from that perspective, I understand the situation Ange [Postecoglou] is in now at Tottenham. When results are also not going your way, that's tough. They're things we need to deal with as managers and I'm convinced that Ange is doing that well and he will get through it."

    • On the departure of full-back Mads Roerslev on loan to Wolfsburg: "His journey has been incredible, starting in the B team. Every single time we called upon him, he never let us down. He said a few things after the game against Palace and it got emotional. It gives me goosebumps now. He is a fantastic example of what our environment and culture means. He deserves a lot of praise."

  11. 'The most important result of the past seven days'published at 12:34 GMT 28 January

The most important result of the past seven days for Brentford may not be Sunday's win at Crystal Palace, but actually tying down Mikkel Damsgaard to a new long-term contract.

The Denmark international has been inspirational for the Bees this season, and is arguably one of the Premier League's most talented midfielders.

After a stop-start first two years with us, partly caused by injury and fitness issues, he has really stepped up this season and has the league's joint fourth highest number of assists - eight.

Damsgaard, whose new deal takes him to 2030 with a club option of a further year, can do things a lot of other players cannot. He has the ability to not only spot a pass, but then deliver it with pinpoint accuracy.

Another great example of this came at Selhurst Park on Sunday. He received the ball on the right from Kevin Schade, directly in front of us in the away end. You just knew that he would be able to beat the defender and send in a cross, and that was exactly what he did – and Schade bravely headed it home.

With the 24-year-old to committing his long-term future to the club, as Keane Lewis-Potter also did earlier this month, it shows the players really believe in what we are doing and promises exciting times ahead for us Brentford fans.

The victory at Palace was hard-earned in a game which, to be honest, could have gone either way.

But it confirms what I wrote in these pages earlier this month. That is that the talk about our home and away form is a myth – our results are not about where we play, but the quality of the teams we are facing.

  12. 'Perfect example of why we set up the B team' - Roerslev makes Wolfsburg movepublished at 11:04 GMT 28 January

    Mads RoerslevImage source, Getty Images

Brentford defender Mads Roerslev has joined Bundesliga side Wolfsburg on loan until the end of the season.

The Denmark international signed initially for the Bees' B team from Copenhagen in August 2019 but broke into Thomas Frank's first team and was part of the side that beat Swansea City 2-0 in the 2020-21 Championship play-off final, producing the assist for the second goal from Emiliano Marcondes.

The 25-year-old has made 146 appearances for the club - including 94 in the Premier League - scoring two goals.

Brentford director of football Phil Giles confirmed Wolfsburg will have the option to make the move permanent in the summer.

"Mads has done an absolutely fantastic job for us since he joined our B team," he said.

"He is the perfect example of why we set up the B team in 2016. We wanted to bring in talented young players who needed some development and a pathway to first-team football.

"When he's had his chance, he has always made a positive impact on the team and contributed with some important goals and assists.

"Mads now has the chance to become a first-choice right-back at a very good club and hopefully cement his position in the Denmark national team."

  13. How does Mbeumo's penalty-taking record compare?published at 12:44 GMT 27 January

Bryan Mbeumo scoring his penalty against Crystal PalaceImage source, Getty Images

Since his first in December, 2021, Bryan Mbeumo has scored 10 penalties in all competitions in English football, missing none.

When it comes to just Premier League spot-kicks, only Cole Palmer, Raul Jimenez and Yaya Toure have taken more than the 25-year-old's nine without failing to score.

Brentford's last penalty-taking talisman was Ivan Toney who scored 11 from 12 yards in the English top flight, but even he missed his penultimate effort for the Bees.

With Mbeumo reprieved by VAR on Sunday, he took his second chance with a jumping run-up just before he hit the ball, waiting for goalkeeper Dean Henderson to dive the wrong way.

"Never doubt Bryan," said team-mate Nathan Collins. "We are all so confident in him and he's confident in himself. To do that on your second one, it's unreal."

Asked about Yoane Wissa's early celebration, Mbeumo said it was down to their pair's friendship "on and off the pitch".

"If one of us scores, then we are really happy for the other," Mbeumo told Sky Sports.

He added his winning penalty-taking formula was down to "just focusing myself".

"It's all mental at this point," he added. "I know I work a lot and I just needed to do the business."

We asked for your thoughts after Sunday's Premier League game between Crystal Palace and Brentford.

Here are some of your comments:

    Palace fans

Ricardo: Both sides were poor, but everyone knows how Brentford play - we just couldn't put enough pressure on their back line. Very bad day at the office.

Paddy: We looked second-rate against Brentford. There's no urgency, we were on the back foot for most of the game and it was amateurish of us to encroach into the box! They know everything is being filmed and VAR will love to jump in and spoil the game. We need to beat teams like Brentford at home. Come on Palace!

Moggy: We've been punished for not making the most of our chances in the first half. Too complacent and didn't deserve to win, but would have been happy with a point. Happy for Esse scoring on his debut. Eze needs to get a grip as we all know how good he is.

Steve: The match was like the weather - depressing and miserable. Palace were poor, lacking so much quality in midfield, often failing to hold onto the ball in tight situations. Desperately need a fit Wharton back in the team to bring some degree of control. So disappointing to lose to a Brentford team that is average at best. Important the team bounces back against Man Utd, and defeat doesn't turn into a losing run.

    Brentford fans

Gilham: Really solid, confident display. Obviously fortunate with the penalty retake but we now look so confident at this level. Our attacking potential is so good - Mbeumo the starboy, Wissa the best finisher at the club, Schade can be anything he wants, and Damsgaard's levels are through the roof compared to his first two seasons. With Collins now cutting out mistakes, Koyade coming in and Rico returning (albeit a slight setback for now) we even look more solid at the back. All without our record signing of Thiago up front.

Chris: Excellent performance for the entire starting XI. Rode our luck at times but resolute in defence, particularly in the second half.

Jason: Fantastic performance from the Bees. My mate Jim has been to two away games and we've won both times. He has to come next time!

Billy: Solid. Collins and Van den Berg are proving to be an excellent pairing in defence. Schade is starting to find some consistency, and confidence. Very happy.
